This weekend was rough. Like, REALLY rough. You know how you never want to be “that” girl at the bar? I was. I was “that crying” girl at the bar. I hate having emotions. And I hate toying with them while consuming alcoholic beverages. It’s just a terrible idea. Grumpy Juli sucks already, but grumpy drunk Juli is just a straight up b*tch. I learned my lesson this weekend. Don’t day drink. Just workout instead. That was all I really even thought about at the bar anyways. Barbells. I just thought about barbells.
Don’t give me a lecture here. I know.
But no need to live in non fun Juli land. Let’s talk about what was super fun over the weekend. Our CrossFit gym put on our first ever Amazing Race. Yes, like the show. So this is how it looked. We took their keys, their cell phones, and their dignity and sent them on their way around Denver. They had to find their own way on a 13 mile trek without any means of transportation. Meaning they had the choice to either run or hitch hike. Hitch hikers did much better than the runners. The teams had to make human pyramids with strangers, which meant mostly bums. They had to had to eat sandwiches with yeast spread on them. Paleo eaters loved that. And they had to do burpees in a fountain. Among other weird things. The coolest part of it all though…team PaleOMG WON IT ALL!! No big deal. I love my gym. Seriously, I love it.
I have a sunburn that makes me look like I’m still wearing a swimsuit…while naked.
I freaking love the movie Slumbdog Millionaire.
Oh, I should probably talk about this recipe. It’s not super original. But I don’t have an ice cream maker so I gotta do what I gotta do to get my fix. So ice cream made from a frozen banana was where it was at. If I would have had toasted pecans and was eating nuts, I would have added those to this little soft serve masterpiece. It’s not a masterpiece, I won’t lie. But it tastes delicious.
- 1 banana, peeled and put in freezer until frozen
- 1-2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon sunbutter (or nut butter of choice)
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- splash of coconut or almond milk
- toasted pecans (optional)
- Freeze your banana ahead of time or this recipe just won’t workout. I like to peel my banana before freezing it because it’s kind of hell trying to peel a frozen banana.
- Place banana and the rest of your ingredients into a food processor.
- Puree until smooth. Top with toasted pecans or whatever else you would like.
- Eat with a spoon. It works better than a fork.

This looks awesome. I unfortunately have a crappy blender and I can’t blend my frozen bananas well enough to get a good consistency. I never thought to use my food processor! Duh! Thanks!
Just whizzed it up after dinner – bloody delicious!
I love making ice cream like that also. I add way more coconut milk and throw in protein powder so I feel “healthy” about it.
And about the sad stuff… Know what? Chicken butt.
I just read one of your blogs from the 4th about how alcohol is stupid. =]
Love this recipe! Every morning after a WOD, I do half an avo, frozen mixed berries, a nana, frozen pineapple, Progenex More Muscle and or Recovery, with Almond milk! All with my Magic Bullet blender. It’s amazing. It’s my ice cream fix.
I made extra and froze the balance.. its hard as rock now! But I will chip through it! This will be my after swim snack! Thanks!

That’s cool that you used a food processor to do this–this machine makes THE BEST “ice cream”, (which is really just a frozen banana). Plus it gets really good if you put chocolate or berries or other frozen fruit with it.
This looks really good, can’t wait to try it!
Sorry you had a bad weekend. We’ve all been that girl. Hey, I’ve even been the bummed out girl thinking about barbells. No worries. This week will be better. Hope things clear up! In the meantime…there is always paleo softserve…
yum yum and hooray for races and tan(burn)lines! When I was small I had an American flag swimsuit…I got tan through the stars so had tan stars all over my body…now whenever I’m in the sun, I try to sneakily get shape tans. It always cheers me up whenever I have one. Moral of the story: get a shape tan (flowers and stars and hearts work well) so that when you’re at bars you can look at it and smile. Yay!
Nice one. Hey JB are you telling me that you only have 3 friends?? I thought we were gonna get guest posts on Fridays? Btw lemon tart was fabulous, but today I am going to meld the tart and the Caramel Pecan Bars together. One part lemon filling, one part cookie crust. Will let you know the outcome :)
This looks awesome, and as always, love your posts! I never thought to add maple syrup to frozen banana’s. Amazing how many concoctions you can come up with a simple frozen banana.
Happen to have 2 frozen bananas in freezer – doubled is recipe and it will be the perfect Bachelorette watching snack! (i admit to watching the mindless tv show) This ice cream is Delicious.
hey we made banana ice cream tonight too! and we put magic shell on top–paleo magic shell, seriously: http://alphamom.com/family-fun/food-home/july-is-national-ice-cream-month-aww-yeah/
it was awesome.
This would be AMAZING on the SO Delicious brand cultured coconut Frozen goodness. No sugar added of course. Hope it works just as well with Good Life cocoa!! Thanks for sharing!!
Modified… 1 banana, 1 date, cinnamon, sunbutter, and coconut milk…sweet happiness!!!!
oooh and I forgot I added flaked coconut as well! even betta!!!!
This was awesome. The fact that you cook with everything I keep in stock is doubly awesome. Making your pizza bites tonight.
OH.MY. I’m eating this as I type and I keep having to stop composing my comment in order to shove another spoonful into my mouth. I think it’s going to change my life. No exaggeration. None.
Also, I discovered your blog a few weeks ago and I’ve read almost every post. My best friend’s name is Laura too so I feel like we have a connection. BUT… I still kinda want to come to Colorado and hang out. Too creepy? I’ll stop now.
Amazing!!! I just made it for me and the hubs and we loved it!!!
This looks amazing. I’m so grateful for your blog, because I don’t think of the simple things that would be delicious, much less the complex ones. You make my food life an interesting adventure. I have to make this now :o
I hope you got a good cry and it is out of your system now. Sometimes that is all I need. Like on birthdays. I cry like a baby on birthdays. I’m usually fine like 360 of the other days though. I hope you have at least 360 good days this year. You have been giving me lots of good ones. Good food makes me stupid happy for days :) This is a weirdly in depth comment for me. I’m done with it now.
Made this tonight after my Paleo Chicken nuggets for dinner and let me tell ya, it was GAH-UUD!!!!! So, happy that I found an “ice cream” that I can eat. I can’t eat real ice cream because it flairs up my arthritis in my hands so bad (a BIG reason I eat Paleo). THANK you SO much for this recipe. LOVE it !!!!!
I am an ice cream snob, and it’s what I usually “cheat” with on my cheat days (that and one pita). Anywho, I loved this! And my husband, who is not Paleo, loved it too! So much so he recommended that we make some at our next BBQ and put some whiskey in it for “grown up” ice cream. YUM! Thanks, Juli!
I totally broke my cheap ass little food processor making this (note to self: cut bananas more next time) but it was 100% worth it!
Peeling a frozen banana is easy-peasy. I throw naners in the freezer all the time. Take the frozen one out, run it under a little warm water and the peel slides right off. And you have a nice frozen banana. My mom slices them, freezes them flat on a pan, then stores them in a bag. Who’s got time for that? Try it again Jules, you’ll see.
I just had to praise you and your frickin’ hilarious blog. I just started Crossfit a few months ago and always swore I’d never jump onto the Paleo bandwagon! But here I am… soaking up every recipe you type! Haha! Thx for your honesty, brilliance, humor and simplicity. You have such a great ability to make cooking so simple! This is great for someone who burns her fingers toasting food!
I can’t stop making this!!! It’s so good I haven’t even tried modifications yet, except for cutting the maple syrup in half so I’m not cheating as much in my particular brand of Paleo! Thanks for writing and making Paleo fun!!
