I’m so glad I have a picture of me stuffing my face. Ian, one of the greatest guys ever, took a balls ton of pictures on Sunday for my cookbook. This is one of them. Can’t wait for you all the see them!! You’re the best Ian!
So I get requests regularly for putting up blog posts about what I eat in a day. You all are very curious little humans, aren’t you? I understand. I’m the same way, but instead of wondering what people eat, I am always curious to what people’s personal lives are like. Like their relationships. Everyone seems perfect among their friends, but when they’re alone with each other, you know they have to fight. Or at least I hope they do so I can feel happier about being alone.
Anywho.
Yesterday was a REALLY good day. I had only slept probably an hour or two on Sunday night because I was worried about someone beating the sh*t out of my car again. So Monday night, I got in bed by 8pm and slept until about 7am. Awesome. Good sleep makes everything better. When I don’t sleep enough, I become an emotional, erratic mess. Believe me, I’m dramatic. So sleep made me less omgitsthattimeofthemonth crazy. That me sucks ass.
So here is what my day looked like. Believe me, it’s not exciting.
- 7am- wake up time!
- 7-9am- worked on emails.
- 9am- went to favorite neighborhood coffee shop where I started my morning off with an almond milk dirty chai (shot of espresso is what makes it dirty).

- Worked on a project for another website from 9-11am.
- Had breakfast at 11am. I usually have breakfast WAY earlier, but since I slept for so long and was getting over being an emotional train wreck, I just wasn’t hungry. My breakfast included shredded chicken, some leftover acorn squash, and 1/4 of an avocado with a bit of balsamic vinegar drizzled on top.

- Worked on cookbook from 11am-1pm.
- Went to the gym where I did 3×5 back squat (PR yay!), 15 min. on the min. every min. of 2 high hang squat snatch, then did a 5 rounder with 10 overhead squats and 10 toes to bar.
- At 3pm I had lunch which included a leftover pork chop, leftover acorn squash, and a 1/4 of an avocado.

- Then I headed on over to a different coffee shop down the street to work on my cookbook from 3-5pm, where I got YET ANOTHER almond milk chai (not dirty style this time). I know, I know. Do you know the sugar content in chai JB?? Yes, yes I do. Thank you for worrying about me.
- Coached from 5:30-7:30.
- Ate dinner at 8pm. Laura made dinner and fed me. Some spaghetti squash, chicken, bacon and some pesto!

- Then I got a little silly. I had 2 tablespoons of Nikki’s Coconut Butter.
- Then I might have had about 10-20 chocolate covered peanuts/almonds. Damn you Sarah. Damn you emotions. Damn you vagina. I don’t even have a picture of it all because I ate them so fast.
- I then tried to eat some pumpkin ice cream, but it sat in the ice cream maker for too long so it was frozen solid. And I wasn’t up to work that hard.
I then watched the second episode of New Girl. I missed the first one. Damn you work.
OMGILOVENEWGIRL. I wish I could watch it every single damn day. Did you watch The Mindy Project after New Girl. That’s sh*ts funny!! OMGILOVEMINDYPROJECT.

You seriously are my favorite person! You are hilarious. Damn Vagina!! HA HA HA!!
Julie, I love your blog. This post is hilarious and you should be proud of yourself today because you got a lot accomplished. I, on the other hand, need to be writing a paper, BUT I am looking at your site :)
Anyhow, I’m doing the Lurong Living Paleo challenge, and need recipes! That spaghetti looks delicious. Do you mind coming up with that recipe, pretty please :)
Keep making great food and being funny!
Check out my pistachio pesto chicken pasta recipe on my site!
There are no words for that pistachio pesto… I am attempting to keep 6 basil plant growing just to keep up with my addiction for this pesto!
I’m already on it! Thanks!
Ok… this is weird, but you drinking chai makes me feel justified in going to get a machiatto in the morning…. I don’t know why, it just does.
because we are human beings and that makes us feel better. no worries, i got you
ME TOO! About my own macchiato and sometimes a chai…. Sometimes just a flavored coffee with milk.
Good to know that hot-shit JB also has weaknesses for deliciousnesses. ;)
A delicious day. I need to have avocado for breakfast more often. And I’ve been wanting to try a dirty chai.
Oooh, I learned quite a bit from your post here. I follow your site on Facebook, but this is the first time I came over to the blog! So, how did you make the spaghetti dish? I always look for pasta dishes that are different (without the usual red sauce). Thanks! Tina
yes ma’am, just check out my chicken pistachio pesto pasta on my website for a recipe very similar to that one
Thanks for sharing! Im one of those weirdos who cares! But seriously, knowing that you are so strong and don’t starve yourself or go full whole 30 paleo everyday helps mentally. I want dessert every day and I hate feeling guilty about it!
And you have coffee shop(s) that serve almond milk??? Shut up! I’m crazy jealous.
I was also wondering about these coffee shops that serve almond milk. I know you are in CO and I am as well….would you mind sharing the names of these shops? I would so love to get a latte made with ‘legal’ milk. Thanks!
all kinds of shops carry almond milk, you just have to ask. I tend to frequent sugar bake shop in the wash park area
You slay me. I wish you could marry my brother. That is all.
I love your blog, your food, your honesty and your sense of humor. Can’t wait for your cookbook to come out!!
Now i’m curious… did you bring the Almond milk yourself? or do they carry it? Never heard of a coffee shop doing that… lol
humm, Can a Mox Starbucks be made with Almond milk?
the coffee shops i go to carry almond milk, starbucks does not though. At starbucks, I just bring my own coconut milk to mix into my americano
frappe i mean
I love you.
In a non creepy way of course…
My day is now complete thanks to this post- seriously cannot wait until your cookbook comes out! Must it be April?! I shall try to survive all of the anticipation build up.
Btw come to Hawaii… It’s really entertaining to watch all of the people on vacation fighting with each other…
I just moved into a new apartment, and as you probably know moving is so stressful and expensive!!!!!!!!! So I have been eating my stress away with cheap non-paleo crap for 3 weeks. Trying not to feel too guilty and move on, but the sugar detox is harder than expected. :( grrrr….. ANYWAY, thank you for 1) being hilarious and 2) for being honest when you indulge. I feel less like a failure in my paleo endeavors when I know that you have had sugary delights. <3, Randi
Man I’m super jealous about the almond milk chai. On base we only have soy options and I’ve yet to find a decent coffee place here in San Antonio :(
So….I am half awake and reading this…and I see the word vagina…then the word picture and I thought, oh my…her blog really has gone to all new levels.
I made pumpkin ice cream yesterday, too. Unfortunately, I DIDN’T wait too long and ate a lot of it. Getting this ice cream maker while I’ve got a bad knee and can’t exercise might not have been one of my better ideas, but I do LOVE everything I’ve made in it!
Thanks for being real and hilarious….you are amaz-balls!! Cannot wait for the cook book to come out :)
Thanks for the laugh first thing this morning! Can’t wait for that cookbook to come out!
Shit I need to clean up my diet. The mindy project was definitely a highlight of my night!
Hilarious. Thanks for sharing and I am jealous that you have a neighborhood coffee shop that has almond milk. I go to Starbucks with my man and sneak in my own CO blended or ghee blended coffee, which I pour over a (Starbucks) cup of ice. Then I sit there and pretend I am drinking a “real” iced Starbucks coffee.
Must go to cool coffee shop soon and recommend they serve almond milk!
Reading this makes me realise why everyone loses weight faster than me. Portions and snacking. I’m a FIEND for snacking.
I mean I had like 4 squares of double layer fudge today. Which is your recipe. So if I fail to lose weight I can blame you right? Right?
This is what I read, “Damn you vagina, and I don’t even have a picture of it….” Yes, I had to read that sentence twice!!!
Blowing my mind that coffee shops carry almond milk. I suppose Dayton, OH is not cool enough for non-dairy, non-soy milks. I think it’s our lack of hipsters. If we had more hipsters, they would have demanded almond milk. Damn, we are just so uncool.
First time to have read your blog, any blog really. I am new to paleo and love your recipes. Your honesty is a hooty hoot.
Ok Juli, you are so hilarious. I have to admit I rarely read all of any of the blogs I subscribe to. But I read yours because you are a hoot! Your spirit is really uplifting:))
“When I don’t sleep enough, I become an emotional, erratic mess. Believe me, I’m dramatic.”
OMG, motherfucking DITTO. On low sleep, I have the emotional extremes of a 14-year old girl, only about 8x more obnoxious. I also have massive food cravings and any time I’ve binged, it’s been a low-sleep situation. If I just start putting myself to bed at like 8:30pm, I become me again. I feel kind of pathetic requiring a minimum of 8 hours just to be NORMAL, but it is what it is.
Also, I love your food combos, that’s often how I eat. But I’m incredibly jealous of the almond milk availability. Here in the rural midwest, all I can get is dairy or soy…thus all I get is Americanos.
To funny! Your day sounds a bit like mine. Because of that constant go though I have been able to freeze your recipes Bertolli’s style and make them on the fly. I have found though that an egg baked in an avocado makes for one easy and delicious breakfast on the go! Hmmm, that might even go well with Chai…brb have to go get some!
Heavy Squats. Entertaining article (Journal a la JB) as usual. Glad to hear the shoulder is tolerating snatches.
Off topic, but are you aware of your presence on pinterest and tumblr (not entirely sure the objectivce of this website or how to navigate it) in various “fit” and “crossfit girls” picture compilations?! Supa-sta!
really??? haha that’s hilarious!!
You’re curious about other people’s relationships and whether we fight? Eff yeah, we do! 2 months into brand-new relationship and all isn’t as rosy as I believed it would be! (He’s a CF’er/Paleo too, which is presenting surprising challenges – like, it’s date night. I got dressed up for your ass. WITH MAKEUP. Shaddap about how you beat your 1st Angie time by 16min! :) )
By the same token, we appreciate seeing that you like “dirty chai” drinks and eat almond butter by the spoonful and don’t sleep well and get crankypants PMS too. This, Juli, is how you get (and keep) your readers. We can relate to your human-ness. ….and you’re funny as shit. ;)
You kill me, and I look forward to laughing at your posts!! I feel like I wrote it – (and judging by people’s comments – they feel the same way!)
I have a cooking question dear! – I don’t have acorn squash, but my husband decided, let’s buy a butternut squash when we went to the farmers market. Since i’ve never even tasted one, I was wondering if your recipe would work with butternut squash?
And coconut butter is sick! And I have never had the Nikki’s but I heard it’s crazy good!!!! I need to detox – i’ve been making way too many sweets (cause you keep posting them :)))) ….
So back to butternut…. what do you think?
Oh, and your arms are JACKED!!!!!!!!!!! Love those pics!!!
Thanks Juli!
Hi Lilli,
I made Julie’s recipe with butternut squash just this weekend and it was great! It’s a little more watery than the acorn would have been, but the flavors work well. Give it a try!
Thank you Dani. I’ll try it out tonight! I wonder if you can sweat that like you can with zucchini or eggplant?? Anyone know?
Oh, btw, you’re pumpkin granola is like crack. !! I make double batches and they don’t last 3 days in my house!
i’m glad i’m not the only one who eats breakfast late. my belly just doesn’t want food before 10 am, so i usually have my tea and a big cup of coconut water mixed with my l-glutamine and probiotics. yummy shit right ther.
1. Dirty chai is where it’s at.
2. New Girl is also where it is at and you can find episode 1 on Hulu!!
You’re awesome, JB.
Stop it with the food pictures because this type of post is like my own version of porn. Truly. :)
I love the Mindy Project. But I may be biased due to the anme as I’ve never seen the show. My Mindy Project involves me being healthier and happier. :)
I have been following you and making some of your receipes for a few weeks now. First, I want to tell you how much my family LOVES when I make your stuff. Second, you have inspired me to do a modified WOD from home 5-6 days a week. I love it! I am even considering joining our local crossfit. Lastly, you are so real and so freaking funny! Thanks for putting yourself out there!
that’s FREAKING AWESOME Joy! Congratulations!
You have a white couch? That is insane, I would be able to keep that clean for like .3 seconds.
yeah…..that’s definitely not my couch
OMG THANK YOU! I just sent a link of this blog to my husband. I am sure he already read it though. :) He loves you and cooks from it all the time! Anyways… I apologized again for my pre period, Vegas sleep deprived state of mind I had the other day.
Hopefully he will see that the coolest girl also has days and will forgive me.
Hey Juli,
I’m doing the Whole30 program, so I’ve been frequenting your blog.
I wanted to ask you for a recommendation for a CrossFIt gym in Denver. My friend and I are heading out in November, and we wanted to get a WOD in.
Thanks!
Chloe
Hey Chloe!! Where are you staying in Denver? There are all kinds of great gyms!! CF Broadway, Verve, South Denver, and a ton others, just depends where you are staying.
We’re actually not sure where we’re going to stay. We’ll be there two nights. Do you recommend one CrossFIt gym in particular??
Btw I’ve been eating Paleo and doing CrossFIt and I feel stronger than ever!
You are awesome! Ilove reading your blog. I was going to make the nutella cookies the other night but I couldnt find dates anymore… is there a substitute or anything? Also ever you ever tried a recipe with pistachio butter? I saw it on amazon and it looks delicious!
I’ve made pistachio butter before!! And you could use dried black figs or raisins!
I want to use it for something but dont know what!! Maybe like a chicken recipe or something?! And i have those nutella cookies in the oven now! with the mocha coconut butter!
Meatbar
I L.O.V.E. your blog, recipes, everything!!! You make my crappy day turn into wonderus food and good laughs… And i wish you could meet my brother(?lives in Denver:)
I had to read todays blog to my husband, because I was laughing so hard at “damn vagina”:) thanks for doing what you do.
OMGILOVENEWGIRLTOO
But what do you think about Schmidt and CiCi?
And why don’t Nick and Jess get together!?!
OMGILOVENEWGIRLTOO!!!!
OMGILOVECHERYL
I think I just found my future wife……..you are awesome, love your blog and your openness. You are a fun read especially when I am having an “ish “day.
Hahaha, you are seriously so hilarious! Blogs that say, “damn you vagina” should win an award of super awesomeness!
I didn’t check out the Mindy Project, but will have to give that a try.
And New Girl, so good! But what happened to Nick and his ex? They left that story line hanging? Weren’t they going to move in together….ok, clearly I have no life when I pick a part a TV show’s accuracy.
YEAH!!! WTF?! I’m so confused. They can’t just leave us hanging like that. Dumb.
LOVE LOVE LOVE New Girl! One show I can sit and watch and crack up the entire time-I need that from time to time. Love reading your blog and seeing that I’m not the only one that has a million things to do each day and need a caffeine boost to get me through!!
I landed on your blog by total accident and I’m sooo happy I did. I don’t think you know this, but you are actually the incarnation of the love child I had with one of my besties. We use the word vagina often to get our point across in discussions with men. “Don’t hate cuz I have a vagina”, for example. And once upon a time we were both super studette Marines. Now we are both trying to find our way back to said studette forms after years of domesticity/divorce, bad lifestyles, having sex with the entire central time zone, cancer, and recovery. (She got the divorce and I got the cancer. I think she got the shittier deal.) I think I have my inspiration to get my ass back in the saddle right here. Thanks for waking up my old self and for the fabulous recipes. I am still burping up bacon acorn squash and it’s divine.

Leslie
OMG You crack me up. I don’t even know how I got to your website, but I’m totally stoked that I did. You are my new favorite person, and this is my new favorite place to find recipes I can eat. I’m not sure what a paleo diet is, but I know I can eat just about everything on here. I’ve been deprived of decent foods for 2 years, since I discovered I was allergic to dairy, I quit eating it and I quit living on zyrtec. blah blah blah Thanks for being straight forward! I love it!
Okay, so I know this post was from over a month ago, but I am heading to Denver this weekend to visit a bestie and I have to have a dirty chai! I have been thinking about the damn thing since you first posted this and now I have a chance to actually have one! Where, where do I get a chai with almond milk and expresso?!?!?! Thank you!!
You can get one at either the Sugar Bake Shop or mmmm…Coffee or Devil’s Food. Hope you love every second of it!
Thank you! I’ll let you know how it goes. I wish I could squeeze in a WOD too, but it’s a tight visit. Maybe you can WOD off my chai too! :) thanks!!
