To athleisure. That’s a verb, right? Well, I’m making it one. Feel free to call me up, dictionary. I’ll be waiting here to help you out.
Remember the days when it wasn’t acceptable to go out in your workout clothes? Mostly because workout clothes were always a baggy old pair of gym shorts and a shirt you got at a thrift store because you didn’t want to ruin any of your day-to-day ones. Well as we know, those days are long gone. Especially in Colorado. Athleisure wear has come in and taken this state by storm. You can walk into a nice restaurant in Cherry Creek and if you’re wearing a nice pair of leggings, no one is questioning your attire. I even know people here who are allowed to wear workout clothes to work.
But that’s one of the best parts of staying active nowadays. You can take workout clothes or athleisure wear from gym to real life. So you’re not wasting money on buying clothes that are only worn for an hour a day. As I’ve said before, I wear workout clothes daily so I’m always looking for something that stands out in a crowd and/or pieces that can go with other normal outfits such as jeans or under a jacket. At Nordstrom, you can actually find a whole Athleisure Wear section to find attire that can go straight from gym to brunch. With tops, sweaters, hats, casual sneakers, and even backpacks, you’ll always be able to put together a casual outfit that’s fit for the streets!
I recently found these leggings and had to buy them. They are just totally different than any pair I own! The color block panels catch the eye and the length is perfect since the temperatures are starting to cool down here in Colorado. And you know what? They don’t ride down in a workout, they stay right in place where you put them! You can see them in action here in one of my recent workouts I shared on Instagram! Leggings should make you feel good, whether they are fit like mine or a more relaxed fit, and they should definitely make a statement: that you’re here to kick some butt in the gym on a Saturday…then sip on a mimosa with friends afterwards!
Step Up Your Leggings Game:
I snagged these sneakers a couple months ago during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and I can’t believe they are still in stock because they are downright the most comfortable sneakers of all time! And they have a silver rose patten all over them. Come on, man! I love them so much! But if rose detailing isn’t your thing, they have all sorts of other colors and patterns in the same shoe, like these oxblood ones, or these grey ones that almost look like t-shirt material, or you can go completely white! So many colors, so many ways to stay comfortable during your casual errand days or being a tourist in a city somewhere! Below I’m linking all my favorite casual sneakers that are a must for weekends!
Casual Sneakers That Make Running Errands Actually Enjoyable:
Down jackets are my ABSOLUTE favorite. I don’t know if it’s a Colorado thing, but I feel like it’s a right of passage when you get your first down jacket. Like your a true Coloradan when you put on your puffy jacket to go scrape your car. I didn’t get my first puffy jacket until I was in college and I thought to myself…”How the hell did I not freeze to death for the first 20 years of my life?” When the snow comes out, the puffy jackets goes on and it doesn’t really come off for the next 3-4 months. So I’ve invested in many down jackets over the years to help feel stylish when I have 6 layers on underneath and to work around the every changing temperatures here in Colorado. So I have some lightweight and some majorly heavyweight down jackets to choose from. I recently snagged this lightweight coral down jacket, that also comes in black and in white, so I could layer during the fall months when it’s 80 degrees in the day and 30 degrees at night. It’s the perfect jacket to wear by itself but it’s big enough to be able to layer a sweater underneath it like I did!
More Down Jackets For Fall & Winter:
Last but not least in this entire athleisure outfit: this sweater. Stop everything you’re doing right now and get this sweater, because it also comes in a blue, black or cream color! And it’s hands down the most comfortable sweater I’ve ever worn. And I’ve worn it with workout clothes, with jeans, and even with shorts. It’s absolutely amazing and so incredibly soft. By far my favorite purchase of the year! And it fits perfectly underneath a jacket so you can layer while it gets colder out and you don’t even need a scarf! So great!
Sweaters & Hoodies To Warm Your Soul (and neck):
I hope this post helps you find workout clothes that work not only in the gym but also in your normal, busy lives! Stay motivated every day in life and keep kicking some major butt when it comes to your unique days!

Hi Julie,
Love you and your blog! Especially love your fashion posts. I know you’ve done this with some pieces, but it’d be helpful if you could share the sizes you’re wearing or if something tends to run small/true to size/runs large. Just to give us a reference if we’re ordering online 🙂 Thanks so much!
aw crap, i totally was going to! i’ll add that in now, sorry about that!
Hi Juli!!
I absolutely love your fashion posts, well actually all your posts, but I just love seeing what you’re wearing! I don’t know if you’ve answered this before, but what camera do you use to shoot your fashion pics? I am working for a boutique in my city, and they are wanting me to do a little fashion blog. I was wanting a good camera that lets me take great pictures like the ones you have.
Thank you 🙂
Love your athleisure picks! One [semi-awkward] question – do the tights you are wearing in the pics show crotch sweat? I am always wary of getting light grey pants to avoid having look like I peed my pants!
these ones didn’t!
Another awkward question! What kind of underwear (or none??) do you (and other readers) wear with leggings?? Is it different depending on if it’s everyday or for workouts? I have googled many articles about workout thongs etc etc but it’s tough to find answers out there from real people that really go to the gym… Sorry if this topic has been covered before!
i honestly just wear anything thong that’s in my drawer but i definitely love this brand: http://rstyle.me/n/b2hp7abq557
Thank you so much for your reply Juli! Okay… I will give this leggings/thong thing a go as soon as I get up the guts. Such a cute look.
P.S. I am attempting your crockpot pork green chile tonight. !!!

omgoshh, your butt in those leggings are PHENOMMMMMMMMM. And i adore that puffy coat, ahh its the perfect cover up for fall.
Ugh JULIE!! You’re killing me here. Honestly, I wanted you to blog about your clothes before you started doing it and now I just want all the clothes!! Aghhhh. (I’m a super poor student so everyone gets this rant, not just you). Love this outfit SO much though.
Also, after your snap from earlier I’m super temped to make my url some sort of weird pervy political porn but I will hold myself back LOL.
Ugh, also I spelt your name wrong! I’m so sorry. I know there is no ‘e’. I actually love the way you spell it, I don’t know why I did that. (Probably too worked up over your butt in those pants).

OMG I want those oxblood Nikes SO bad! They’re perfect.
