Something I’m paying attention to more than ever right now is supporting my immune system. Since we have a baby who doesn’t sleep quite through the night, I’m working out early in the morning to fit my 4 workouts in per week, and I’m still working 7 days per week…so my body is TIRED. Really tired. And that’s not great for the immune system, but I gotta do what I gotta do to get through this crazy chapter in life. I’ve gone 8 months strong, but I finally caught a cold last week. So I started doing ALL the things to combat it. Here’s what I did:
Went to bed earlier.
Upped my Vitamin D3&K2 from 5,000/day to 10,000/day to help reduce inflammation and promote immune response.
Made sure I took my Zinc every single day since helps your immune system fight off invading bacteria and viruses.
Took my normal 1,000mg of Vitamin C + Elderberry every day.
Made bone broth soups to help heal from the inside.
And made a batch of these immunity shots!
I was able to kick my cold in 4 days and get back to feeling more like myself pretty quickly. And when I say myself, that’s a stretch of the word since postpartum is WILD.
If you’ve ever taken an immunity shot that you bought at a grocery store or at a juice bar, here are the reasons why you’ll see these ingredients in most immunity shots!
Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties that can boost the immune system. It also contains antiviral and antibacterial properties that can stop bacteria from growing.
Turmeric enhances the body’s antibody responses to help fight infections and reduce inflammation.
Propolis Honey is an amazing superfood! Propolis is what bees use the protect the walls of their hives to keep germs out. Honey induces the generation of antibodies. When you combine propolis and honey together, it has antifungal and antibacterial properties to support the immune system and combat free radical damage.
Cayenne Pepper activate your circulatory system to aid in combating disease by increasing the blood flow and transporting immune cells to the infection.
Citrus Juice is a great source of Vitamin C which supports the immune system by fighting free radicals and supporting antibody production.
The best part about this recipe is that it’s SO easy to make. All you have to do is blend everything then strain. That’s it! Will these immunity shots cure all other bad habits? Nah. You’re gonna have to do the legwork with eating the right foods, drinking your water, getting enough sleep, staying away from alcohol, blah, blah, blah…but these shots are a great accompaniment to healthy life choices. And on that note, it’s time for me to work out and keep trying to kick ass during this wild time in life. Wish me luck because this new mom is tiiiiired.
