My childhood memories are filled with waking up at Easter morning, searching for plastic eggs in the backyard then stuffing my face with giant Easter bunny chocolate and cream-filled eggs. Then probably passing about by 2pm because of my massive sugar high. Looking back, I can’t believe the food that I had been chowing down on. So many hydrogenated fats, artificial preservatives and sweeteners, artificial flavors and colors…aka all CRAP. I was eating complete crap and no one was telling me otherwise.

But times have changed and there are so many better options out there for building a better Easter basket, filled with treats, snacks and food that you can be proud to not only eat yourself, but serve other people, as well.

And today I’ve teamed up with Whole Foods Market to show you exactly how I built my own Easter basket and what I will be making this next Sunday! When I was trying to figure out what I wanted in my own Easter basket, I immediately thought about chocolate, meaning wiped up my slobber from thoughts of chocolate. But nowadays, I don’t eat just any chocolate. I want chocolate that is satisfying and not filled with unneeded ingredients, so I shopped through their MASSIVE assortment of chocolate and picked up a Taza chocolate bar plus a free2b dark chocolate sunflower seed butter cup!

Next, I shopped some of their snack items that I would be proud to share with others. I picked up a couple of Larabars, a pack of Barnana dark chocolate covered bananas, Steve’s Paleo Goods dried strawberries, and Dang coconut chips. Imagine making a big bowl of trail mix with all of that…ummmm HELLO, that would be SO good!

And before I moved onto the baking section, I picked up a container of WOW chocolate chip cookies that are gluten free and 100% delicious! I love getting these little bite size cookies for special events! Once my goodie basket was complete, I moved onto food that would be perfect for serving throughout the day. And since starting Easter morning off with a baked good just feels like a must, I picked up a box of Simple Mills pumpkin muffin mix then grabbed a bag of Enjoy Life dark chocolate morsels to mix into the batter! What better way to start off the day than with a batch of paleo muffins hot out of the oven!?

And just in case any snacking needed to occur throughout the day, I picked up some savory items to offset all the sweet. First I grabbed the sun-dried tomato Simple Mills crackers then I got a jar of The Honest Stand blue cheese sauce (with no dairy!) and a container of Applegate Farms prosciutto. So whenever our salt craving hit, we could build some delicious cracker stacks with a little blue cheese sauce and prosciutto on top!

Something I love about Whole Foods Market and why I continue to go back is that they are always adding new items to their shelves that I can be proud of eating. I’m not forced to eat food with unknown ingredients or worry about the quality. Everything looks delicious! I still can’t eat Cadbury Eggs because in college (when I still got a basket) I ate 5, FIVE… in a single sitting. Ugh.

Thank you for these wonderful ideas! I hate the thought of just giving my kids a bunch of junk for Easter. They would love to have some of these items in their baskets come Sunday morning.

I have to agree with you about Whole Foods. I love that they are constantly adding new products that are focused on real food ingredients. I always “treat” myself to one new-to-me product each time I shop there! I love finding new things to enhance my weekly meal planning!
