Chocolate Chia Cherry Protein Shake

The Bachelor has began to fully disappoint after too many weeks of nothing happening on top of more nothing happening. Good sentence, huh? I’ve heard some people call Kaitlyn a slut because she’s making out with so many guys while doing the dirty on the side, but I fully support her. The people who are opposite of that kind of freak me out.

The only thing that happened in this weeks two hours of fun was Ian drank too much and since his ego had been broken down in his singing audition, which obviously did not win Kaitlyn’s heart, he began to ramble on about how he is the most eligible bachelor and deserves women to rain down on him. And that he needs some sex. He really won us all over with his charm. He’s so deep.

The only other thing that happened was they played the sex sounds of Nick and Kaitlyn on national television. How embarrassing watching that later on for her. If I were her, I’d skip watching that episode. No one wants to hear that. Her poor parents. Hopefully they skipped that episode too. But still, I fully support her. You go do the damn thing, Kaitlyn. Did anyone notice how they played the sex scene with Nick and Kaitlyn then showed a water fountain right afterwords? Anyone see the humor in that? Creative, ABC, creative.

Since we are on the topic of finding a mate, and since I found mine, we are finally doing engagement photos. I’ve been putting it off forever now because there are just too many things to purchase with a new house. And a wedding. I know a girl who got engaged like 2 weeks ago and already has engagement photos and invitations sent out. Maybe she’s pregnant? Who really knows. All I know is I’m glad we are able to take our time because planning that sh*t stresses me out. I gotta pick my outfits out, then I’ll have to pick my fiancé’s outfits out and get him slightly drunk so he isn’t awkward, then get my makeup done by a friend, and tease the sh*t out of my hair. I think once we get there, it will be fun. Minus the changing outfits out in the open, but whatevs. Are you married? How did you plan your engagement photo pics? Tell me everything. I plan on being slightly over the top with outfits. No jeans for me. No way jose.

Oh, Hi! I’m Juli.

I’m a food hoarder. And a really bad dancer. If you don’t know me well, you will probably not understand my humor. Therefore, I apologize ahead of time. Thanks for listening to my ramblings of my ever-changing life and trusting my kitchen mishaps. Your trust in me is appreciated.

  1. Biggest advice is to make sure you know what angles are good for you. You’re photographed a lot so you probably have a good idea about this already. But for me, at the time I had no idea what I was doing with poses and our photographer was young and inexperienced. Put those two things together and most of the shots were crap! (Luckily we paid him pennies and got 2 or 3 nice photos.)

  2. Is this it?? Are you going to share your engagement photos?? Are we finally going to see the face of your lover?? We are dying here Juli, We want to see him! Cuz we’re all a bunch of creeps.

  3. I didn’t really worry about hair & makeup since the wedding photos were going to have all the glamour. But I wore a cute sundress and wedges and loved the way the photos came out! They’re definitely more natural than the wedding photos, and I like that the two sets are so different. If your photographer is good, they’ll be able to get shots that make you look good, so don’t worry if your photographer is good. If you’re nervous a shot of something can help, but make sure to laugh and have fun and they’ll turn out great!

  4. haha this absolutely cracked my shit up. We aren’t even having engagement photos taken. We are banking on having enough amazing photos and a little video from our photographer at our destination wedding 😉 You guys will look amazing. Get it giiirl!

  5. We took a black and white photo a couple of weeks before the wedding and had it framed like a big painting with a large border of plain white paper. Then everyone at the wedding reception signed it while it was displayed on an easel. It’s been hanging in our house ever since (and it’s been almost 14 years now – wow, I feel old…). Awesome idea from our even awesomer photographer (yep, I meant to say awesomer…)
Oh and I love the recipe !

  6. The whole part about you picking out your fiancé’s outfits and then getting him slightly drunk is hilarious.!! Why do guys take such awkward photos, especially the really important ones? I will most likely have to do the same with my guy. Put a little bourbon in his coffee and he should be good to go! 😉

  7. “You go do the damn thing, Kaitlyn.”…This line about did me in…laughed so hard! Even tho I didn’t have engagement photos, I think they should be fun and non-formal. They should reflect both your personalities.

  8. When I got engaged, my fiancé and I were living in AK, but had an impending move back to TX. We wanted to capture our time there with our engagement pics so I had to throw that together in a matter of weeks (which sucked because I had no time to lose any last photo ruining lbs). The hardest part for me was figuring out outfits. IT KILLED ME. Finally I landed on colors that would best stand-out against all the nature backgrounds we would be doing. The pictures turned out great and I was lucky enough to just snag the photographer for an ad-hoc hourly rate since I wouldn’t be using him as our wedding photographer. When we got to TX and found our wedding photographer, I opted to forgo my bridal shoot and we did another session of engagements with that photographer. I used that session to test-run my make-up artist, but kept the hair simple. Hope this helps!

  9. I went out shopping and bought 3 dresses for my engagement photos and 2 new shirts for my then fiancé. At the time we lived in a house with Valley Forge National Park in our backyard, so we hiked down our favorite trail for some pics in front of a waterfall! We didn’t practice posing or anything… My only advice is they will be taking photos constantly… so avoid any weird faces. We did some photos with my dog and she was licking my face and I leaned my head back… hello pictures up my nose. We got a ton, so we got plenty of good ones, but in some of the others I’m like WTF am I doing with my face?!

  10. We didn’t do engagement photos. We had a very….how shall I say…unconventional start to our relationship. LOL. Suffice it to say as soon as my divorce was final, we went public, decided to go to Vegas and that was that. Vegas was the shit. I highly recommend getting married there!!!

  11. You. are. hilarious. And I am right there with you on the Bachelorette. I am just so bored with it and nothing’s happening! And my secondhand embarrassment was through the roof this week.

This smoothie looks so good.. I have been all about the cherries lately!

  12. Been reading your blog for years now… Love your recipes and hilarious rantings! My hubbie and I are addicted to the bachelor every season and we discovered a show called Unreal… It is on Lifetime and just started a few weeks ago. You need to watch it bc it really makes you look at the bachelor in a different way…how they basically puppeteer everyone to create drama! Check it out!

  13. I found your blog a few weeks ago, i must say…LOVE IT!
We had our engagement photos taken outside down a trail that runs through the city that leads to an old train station; super fun, super cute, got about 30 pictures in then a random downpour of rain decided to come out of nowhere! We live in the south, so the 5 minute storm was no shocker in the middle of the summer. All we could do was laugh hysterically with our photographer as we walked back down the trail to our cars. I mean what else do you do when wearing a white skirt in a rain storm that YOU KNOW everyone can see through…not smart on my part :)..
At least our wedding day weather could not have been more perfect.

  14. You’re funny. I too have like 80 days left until my wedding and I haven’t even started my dress yet! Or the bowties. I have 2 bridesmaids dresses left to make. Oy. I’m trying to find recipes that don’t have sugar, since my acupuncturist says I have an irritated inflamed gut. I think I will try this recipe without the sugar somehow. thanks!

  15. Juli- just discovered this recipe and I’m obsessed! Thanks for this deliciousness! Question for you- is this the protein powder you regularly use? I’m looking for recommendations.

    Thanks!

  16. OMG! How did I not know about this? I just made this and, like Laura I’m obsessed. So. Good. Thank you Juli for this recipe!! I’m going to make for my kiddos too. You probably already got your pics done but I say do what makes you happy:) We didn’t get pics and got married on the beach in Mexico after me stressing about having to rent Flagstaff Amphitheater 18 months in advance. Wha? Congrats to you and your fiance!

  17. This smoothie is delicious! I added a couple of ice cubes to make it thicker and used frozen dark cherries from Trader Joes. Was the best smoothie I’ve had in a while. I just recently discovered your blog and so far the two recipes I’ve made are fantastic (the other was the pizza spaghetti pie- freaking amazing). Can’t wait to try more 🙂

  18. I have been making this smoothie for a couple of years now and have to say it is the best smoothie I have ever had! Thank you Juli for all your fantastic recipes and fun posts!????
