I’m totally losing my mind, you guys. If you didn’t read my last post, do it. It’s a quick iminapsychopanic kind of post. Easy read. I’m talking all about the home buying process and how much of a crazy stress it is. People don’t warn you about it. Nope. They just all go on, buying houses, keeping their panic to themselves. Not me. No way. I’m spreading that panic everywhere. Sharing it with the world. AHHHHHHH.

Ok, I’ll calm the hell down. But let me explain how I’m losing my mind. I keep forgetting everything. I keep forgetting to send emails, or sign something, or pick up something. Memory = gone. Just the other day, when I was unpacking my suitcase from my Portland trip, I noticed that I was missing a shirt and a leather jacket, both of which I had just purchased a week earlier and hadn’t worn yet. Since I hadn’t ended up wearing them in Portland, I started wondering if I had thrown them in the wash. When the wash showed up empty, I started jumping to conclusions thinking someone had stolen it out of our room. Or out of my bag while traveling. I started thinking everyone was a bad person. I started getting hella pissed. So I called the hotel questioning them. Like a real assh*le.

I left the clothes in the hotel closet. Like a real assh*le. They had the clothes in their Lost and Found. Like good people. Ugh. I hate myself right now.

But back to fashion fridays, because that seems to be the only calm I have at the moment. Shopping is so fun when you’re stressed. All I’ve been looking at online is anything french bulldog related that I can put in our new house. Pillows, drawings, decals. Everything. I need to get it together. I’m becoming a cat lady. But with a dog. And a soon to be husband. Anywho, here are some of the pieces I found while shopping in Portland. I tried shopping at some boutiques downtown, but they were a bit out of my price range. Once we ventured out to Lake Oswego, I found some cute boutiques that I could afford!

This sweater. Comfy, casual and lightweight for the non-snow Colorado days.

This tshirt. I don’t really like tshirts. I don’t own many. I’d just much rather expose the shoulders. Expose, haha. But this tshirt is flowy and has sweater material on the back. So I just went for it, ok??

These booties. They are just divine. So comfortable, so sleek, and I feel like cat woman. Or a dominatrix. Either way, I love them so damn much. And they were on sale. Nothing is better than shoes on sale. Nothing. Except for Jackson.

Wedding dress shopping!! I was lucky enough to try on dresses at the beautiful boutique, The English Department. They were so sweet and helpful. This was my first time trying on dresses and only one really gave me the “wow” moment. I started tearing up wearing it. Of course, I’m not sharing the picture of that dress. I plan on going to one more store to try more on and see if anything can beat that feeling I had.

I forget how many dresses I tried on but I think it was around 8-9. This was one of the first dresses. This Nicole Miller lace, strapless look was pretty much what I was thinking I would wear. I loved it. The lace is called a coral lace and it’s pretty light weight so it would be perfect for a beach wedding. AND it pushed up my boobs, which I’m always a fan of. Just being honest here.

IMG_3542 IMG_3522

This was the same exact Nicole Miller dress but without the lace. I wanted to try that on because I had some ideas about dressing up the dress a bit and making it pop in other ways. Again, loved that it pushed up my boobs. And loved the shape. It’s one of those dresses that pulled and moved in all the right places, which I love.

IMG_3525 IMG_3524

This was not a style I thought I would like at all. I thought it would look trashy with boobs my side (sorry I keep talking about boobs) but it didn’t at all! This Elizabeth Dye dress was super light weight, comfortable, and I loved the back (can you believe how many moles I have? unreal) and the lace detail on the stop was beautiful. But I just didn’t really feel like a bride for some reason.

IMG_3541

I don’t have a picture of the front of this dress but it was very short lived. As much as I absolutely LOVE the back, I could barely walk in the dress since it was so snug at the knees. And I don’t really want that much sleeve. But love the low back. I can’t wait to try on more dressed with low backs!

IMG_3519

NOW THIS, I absolutely, positively freaking love this Elizabeth Dye dress. Since getting engaged, I’ve dreamed about doing a different colored dress and having my bridesmaids in white or cream. I just love that idea. I walked in the store and about squealed when I saw this dress. You can tell in my face in this picture how much I love the dress. Problem was, it was waaaay too much dress and weight for a beach wedding. But this color just blows me away. I love it so damn much. Alas, I don’t want to have a sweaty butt on my beach wedding day.

Oh, Hi! I’m Juli.

I’m a food hoarder. And a really bad dancer. If you don’t know me well, you will probably not understand my humor. Therefore, I apologize ahead of time. Thanks for listening to my ramblings of my ever-changing life and trusting my kitchen mishaps. Your trust in me is appreciated.

  1. AHHHHHHH! I LOVE that you showed trying on dresses!! So exciting. I’m in the process of starting to look and I feel like so many bloggers leave out wedding dress shopping, but I love that you included all of us into such an intimate moment. LOVE the first dress!

  2. The second one, fitted-no lace is simple but beautiful, and the blue one is amazing because it is different, and your smile in it makes it even better!

  3. haha not anymore, he used when we first started dating, but he knows everything that’s going on in my life at this point lol. he knows not to look at the dress post!

  4. Love the idea of a non-white dress!! Mine was the first dress I tried on and more of a grey-ish color an the ladies are in a light blush for my August wedding! There’s so so many options! Im sure you know this, but if you can, make an appt with BHLDN – they have gorgeous, budget-friendly dresses (and it’s an Anthropologie company, so amazeballs for sure, duh!)

    Happy Wedding Planning!!

  5. Can I just say I absolutely love pretty much every post you write. All too often I feel like I could have written every word… Don’t even get me started on the last post (#reallifepreparedness). Anywho – I literally gasped at the first dress, but dress number two is also awesome. You look gorgeous! As a recent bride, my advise: yes, planning and all that comes with it is seriously annoyingly stressful, but if you don’t find small things to enjoy throughout, you will look back and be totally bummed by the entire wedding process. Take time to refocus on the intent (marrying the love of your life, not pleasing everyone and their mom) and that should help calm you. Good luck with the house/move/wedding!

  6. I love the first and second, they’re both perfect on you, I don’t really think you can go wrong here.

I agree home buying is super stressful, which is why I’ll likely die in the house I’m living in now. Not to even mention packing and moving.

  7. The second and third ones! One thing I really appreciate about my wedding dress is that I picked something simple but elegant, so that even almost 11 years later, it doesn’t look dated.
Best of luck! Whichever one you choose will be perfect!

  8. The 1st one!!! It looks amazing on you and would be perfect for the beach! I wrote a similarly fitted dress for my beach wedding & was soooo glad I did. Congratulations!

  9. Your face says the blue one. Totally different body language in that picture. But, you look great in all of them. Take it from someone who didn’t go with their gut -go with your gut!

  10. Girl you are gonna look great in whatever you try on. Good to stay focused on what you really want/like and what works for your body. I went to 9 stores in Denver to find my wedding dress! Yes, 9! No, I’m not picky, I just knew what I wanted. I found my dress at D’Anelli Bridal in Lakewood (on my 2nd trip there). The women are fantastic and really know their stuff! Great selection, and they keep your price point in mind. My dress was by Allure Bridal, checkout their website, they have dresses specifically designed for beach weddings! Love Love Love!

  11. You look great in all of them, but I love the second dress and the blue dress. That blue dress is simply stunning! Although, the beautiful bride would be pretty in anything! Thanks for sharing!

  12. In the second wedding dress photo, there is a mannequin with a gorgeous dress on it; did you try that one on?

I do not like photo #5, I love you in color though, especially that color!

  13. My husband and I just went through the home buying process and it was absolutely insane! Definitely a sellers market. Best of Luck!

Love all the dresses, couldn’t even pick a favorite if I tried. So exciting!!!!

  14. Love the Elizabeth Dye dresses… The loose flowy dresses both scream beachy wedding!!!! I was married on the beach in Hawaii last July and it’s not a lot to have a seamstress remove some of the excess layering underneath. We did a trash the dress session between ceremony and reception so I needed to lighten my gown for the water. If you love the blue, go with the blue! Just remove some of the layering underneath!!!!

  15. First I’d like to say how freakin beautiful you look in every pic!! Ok the dresses…the mermaid one with the lace is stunning on you!! If the lace were the shade of blue you loved on the last dress with a white underlay it would be perfect. You will make a gorgeous bride no matter what! Congrats!!

  16. beautiful choices!!
if you have not made a decision yet, may I suggest checking out BHLDN (Anthropology’s wedding department)? their dresses are awesome! bought mine and my Maid of Honor’s dress there. wedding approaching in 2 months.
congrats on your wedding and pending house purchase!!

  17. The Nicole Miller lace dress is great–you look beautiful in it! I got my dress about 6 months ago– I’m obsessed with Pronovias, so that’s what I ended up with. I didn’t think I’d be one of those girls that tried on a dress and got all sorts of “feels” about it and tear up…. but alas, I was proved wrong when I put the Pronovias on–my bridal consultant told me it was very “Princess Grace” like, so how could you not be sold on a dress based on a comment like that? Mine is going to be hot and a lot of material for our outdoor August wedding, but a sacrifice I guess I was willing to make because I liked the dress so much. And kudos to you for being brave and fashion-forward enough to consider a colored dress!

  18. That first dress is just stunning! It looks so perfect on you. I also really love that colored dress. I think that would make for such a unique wedding. You would definitely stand out. They are all beautiful though (:

  19. If you love love the blue dress, could you have some of the layers of the skirt removed? Or have I just watched too much Say Yes to the Dress?

  20. The first lace dress is to die for!!! I am wearing a lace one that is midi length for my wedding in Sept! Lace is just beautiful 🙂

  21. Come back to Portland and check out Lena Medoyeff on NW 23rd. AMAZING wedding dresses. Locally designed and made. Love, love all of here pieces. Not only bridal dresses but beautiful silk tops, dresses and skirts. Best Wishes!!

  22. I LOVE the blue/green Elizabeth Dye dress! I don’t think it’s too much for a beach wedding. The color is perfect for the beach! I wore a gorgeous, but heavy Vera Wang at our beach wedding….in June!!! The breeze was enough to keep the sweaty butt crack at bay. 🙂 I think if you love it then that’s your dress! You look absolutely beautiful in it!

  23. The first lace dress and the blue dress are AMAZING!! It’s terrible that weddings are only one day and you can’t wear 3 different dresses! You could always do a real wedding dress photo shoot with your top picks so you have the pics forever!!

  24. You look amazing in all of them!! I would say the first pic is my favorite though. Based on your budget, take a look at Augusta Jones she has similar designs to what you tried on but a little different. Piece of advice, don’t be afraid to mix and match or change things that you don’t like. I had that wow feeling in my dress but felt there was just a little something missing. We added a belt from a different gown, buttons along the zipper and lengthened the train and then BAM!!! Perfection, I had MY dress. Make your dress your own. Have fun planning the wedding and dress shopping 🙂 It will be the best day of your life and you will make a gorgeous bride.

  25. Juli, you look so amazing! Your body has transformed since you changed up your fitness routine! I am still doing strictly crossfit but you make me think it’s time for a change! You will rock any dress with that figure! I am so happy for you!

  26. Lindsay Waddell

You will look great in everything you try, but I love that first one on you! I remember you mentioning that you envision “something different,” and that one definitely isn’t ‘different.” (but it’s gorgeous). Look for Leanne Marshall or Sarah Seven dresses. BHLDN is awesome, but they don’t have that many locations. Go with your gut (that’s what I did – I went to two places and ended up going with a dress I tried on at the first place that I couldn’t stop thinking about.) You almost just have to stop looking so you can make a decision. Good luck and have fun! 🙂

  27. You look amazing in all of the dresses but I have to say I love the last one. Something about it! It’s like romantic and modern and flowy but not over the top. IDK!!!! I have a feeling you will look great in anything though! Lucky girl! 🙂

  28. Im 100% for “alternatives” to the basic white wedding dress, and I love that blue one on you, however, the first lace one, nearly made me tear it, its so beautiful!

  29. The last one is my favorite…Who says your wedding dress has to be white? All the dresses look great on you and accentuate you in all the right spots. 🙂 Good luck making a decision!

  30. I love love love the color of that last dress! It looks so gorgeous on you. I love the idea of having a dress with color and then bridesmaids in white/off white! It just makes me want to photograph your wedding!

  31. The blue dress is amazing, but I think it looks a teeny bit like a prom dress. The lace Nicole Miller on the other hand is PERFECT on you. i love it. My dress for my June (!) wedding is Hayley Paige, and I’m obsessed with her + her designs. I recommend following her on insta @misshayleypaige. Enjoy dress shopping!!

    1. obsessed with hayley paige! i found one of her dresses that I want to try on so badly, but it’s $4500 and that’s a bit out of my budget haha. my friend just got one of her dresses for her own wedding. her stuff is so beautiful! which dress did you go for?

      1. I got the guindon! Stripesssssss. At first I was afraid I looked like a comforter, but whatever, I love it. 🙂 Yes, it’s too bad her dresses can get kind of pricey, but the Blush line is more affordable! And if you really love one style, it’s always worth keeping an eye on pre-owned wedding dresses or tradesy. Or wedding bee forums, if you dare to dive into the crazy there…

  32. While everyone is commenting on the dresses, which btw you look awesome in, I’m going to agree that BUYING A HOUSE IS THE WORRRRSTTT!!!!! SO MUCH STRESS! I feel your pain, good luck!!

  33. Gorgeous! You look so damn pretty in everything you wear! Your figure looks amazing, so you really cant go wrong…I love that light and airy Elizabeth Dye dress, it has a dreamy romantic look that I love…Plus, its so lovely in the front that I bet all the moles will go unnoticed 😉
Martina Liana, Monique Lhuillier, Carolina Herrera are just a few of my favorites.

  34. Juli B-you are adorable. And the thing is, every gown will look stunning on you. I am in love with your style, and I know your final pick will be nothing short of perfection. Enjoy these moments-yes even the stressful, hectic, PANIC, moments. They fly by way too fast and make for great memories later. ️Xo

  35. NICOLE MILLER!!! You look great and her dresses are so amazing. I was married it the Nicole Miller Lauren last year and it was the most comfortable all day and night. Good luck choosing!

  36. Hi Juli – Your blog posts are my favorite! I started following a couple of months ago. This particular post I found very relatable. I bought my first condo last summer and it was super stressful. Everyone makes it sound like fun, but it’s a lot of work. I found the closing to be the most stressful part – well the finding out how much money to bring to closing and rush to the bank to get a bankers check before your appointment. It does get fun though – when you move in and start to make your house your home 🙂 Loved all of the dresses – hope you find something that really fits what you’re hoping for. I too have a ton of moles on my back and like that you’re trying backless options It makes me feel more brave to try something like that with dresses. Congratulations and enjoy all of your fun moments right now!

  37. Juli, I’m so excited for you! You look beautiful in all of the dresses. My favorite one is the top one, but you really can’t go wrong no matter what you wear. Your future hubby is a lucky man!

    1. awwwww Jill! i miss your gorgeous face! i hope to look as beautiful on my wedding day as you look every day!! tell tyson i said hello!

  38. I loved the Nicole Miller lace and the Elizabeth Dye dress. The Nicole Miller lace looks fantastic on you but I felt like you were not loving it? Maybe because you had your hands at your hips and it made me feel it may be awkward to walk in it? If you love it though I say go for it. As for the Elizabeth Dye dress – you look much more comfortable in it. It’s more casual looking but if it’s a beach wedding maybe that’s the look you would want? Although I totally think the Nicole Miller lace dress would work at a beach wedding too. Actually what about the dress that is on the mannequin in the first few pics? I know it’s in Portland but if you didn’t try it on and you are still looking, I’d find out who made it and find one near you and try it on. I like the V-neck and straps and it’s lace. they could put some padding in the cups for you too if you wanted. I don’t know, just something about that dress. I like the color of the last one but yes, too much tulle. However you can get shoes that color (would that be too weird?) or have half your bridesmaids wear that color and the other half wear cream…either way have fun planning the wedding…totally stressful but also fun. My favorite stuff was the dinner taste testing, and flower/centerpiece picking. Have fun!

  39. Let’s face it, you would look stunning in a bin bag!!

The dresses you have shown are lovely. The smile on your face in the last photo kinda gives the answer as to the direction you should go in.

I love that colour too btw!

A designer I loved when I was looking was Jenny Packham.

I ended up getting my dress from a high street store in the UK called Monsoon. They had done a layered dress similar to one I had loved by Alice Temperley.

Looking forward to more wedding posts!

  40. To be honest, I liked the idea of the color wedding dress with the party in white/cream. I didn’t feel any of the dresses were fitting for a beach wedding. To me they feel too “formal” and a beach wedding seems very carefree and fun. You do look gorgeous in all of them tho! I also have to make a comment on Fashion Friday. Those dam leopard tennies. I need a pair of those! You wear them with a lot of different outfits and I love how they turn a casual outfit into something more funky. Anyhow! Get yourself a notebook so you can remind yourself what you gotta do and who you gotta apologize to! I’d say your brain is on overload!! Carry on…..

  41. From this guys perspective, here are my conclusions:

    1. You look GREAT in all of them (duh!). I am choosing the first one. It fits you like a glove.

    2. Your fiance is one very lucky guy! And, I am sure you feel the same. Congrats once again to the both of ya!

    3. You are SO correct about buying a house! It is a roller coaster! In the past 10 months, I have : sold a rental house, bought a new primary house and just completed the sale of my other primary residence. I am SO done with real estate transactions for this lifetime (crossing fingers).

Once again, such an exciting time for you (and the lucky guy). Best of everything!

PS- it’s great seeing your book here at our local Costco now on a regular basis. It’s in my top few recommendations when people ask me what are the top books to buy for Paleo.

    Keep on rockin’!

    1. love hearing from guys, so fun! and so glad to hear my book is still gracing the shelves of Costco! and all I keep hearing that if I think buying is stressful, try selling :/ not looking forward to that day! thanks for all of your support!

  42. I really like the first one. The second one is beautiful and simple but I’m not sure it’s the right fabric for a plain dress. For some reason my eyes are drawn to the seams unlike on other plain dresses I’ve seen. All are beautiful though.

  43. You look amazing in everything you wear. I love the first one! You look absolutely stunning!! I think it looks better with the lace than without. The third one in beautiful also, but it doesn’t look bridal and you said you didn’t feel bridal in it. The last one is beautiful too! Love the color! Would they be able to remove a few of the layers to make it lighter for the beach? Or maybe see if they have any other dresses in that color.

  44. You would look stunning in anything you choose! Like the idea of non white dress and maybe suggest beach colours and a whimsical look (lace, tulle, embroidered flowers,/pearl shell look without having to worry about the top dropping down or being too tight to be comfortable? Thanks for sharing and the best wishes for the most fabulous day!

  45. I have been reading your blog for over 2 years and this is the first time I ever commented. You look absolutely gorgeous in the blue dress. It is stunning. You look great in the lace Nicole Miller one as well.

  46. Saja Wedding is where I got mine. If you’re looking for light, flowy, ethereal dresses. I fell in love with a dress online and loved it even more after trying it on. (I still want to wear it 🙂 )
My wedding was in the Bahamas on a hot humid day and I would have suffocated in a heavy or tight gown!

  47. Absolutely first and last. You look stunning in them both. First is probably more beachy as you say. Your a beautiful woman, so you can wear anything. Lucky Hubby I say.

  48. Juli
    1. I love your site. I have been following it for some time.
    2. I love all of the info and recipes you give and the sound advice.
    3. The first dress. It just brings out the real you. I only tried on one dress. But that one dress was the “one”. It was a replica of a 1929 dress which at that time would have cost 5K, but I only paid $200. I felt like a queen in it. So look at what you normally wear and what feels good and “right”. Then you will have your dress. Congrats. Be sure to have some fun along the journey. God Bless.

  49. Colour = GORGEOUS! Made me comment here for the first time, although i’m a long-time reader. You look like Cinderella 🙂

Also, LOVE for Jackson. I’m obsessed with looking at french bulldog pics and we’re seriously debating getting one. They’re just the best.

    1. haha i totally felt like cinderella! and definitely get a french bulldog. if you are looking for a dog that will always want to cuddle, to be incredibly loyal and not too crazy, french bulldogs are perfect!

  50. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE BLUE DRESS!!!! It is sooo unique and makes you glow! 🙂 Be brave and trying something different from plain old white and cream colored wedding dresses. It makes you look so beautiful

  51. You had me at Elizabeth Dye. I love her designs.
I ended up with a Pissarro Nights dress for our vow renewl. I wore it to our ceremony and took it with me to Hawaii for our beach vow renewal. Having a dress that didn’t need to be pressed after traveling was huge.
With that said you will make any dress look stunning.

  52. I vote for #2 from the top, the unlacy Nicole Miller dress. And I love those plastic clips at the back. They really dress up the dresses. 😉

  53. Love the Nicole Miller lace dress – fits you perfectly… My dress was a Rivini, I loved it !!!! It was simple — but not bland and fit perfectly.

  54. I too love the Nicole Miller lace dress. It fits you perfectly and would be just what you want, need, desire for a beach wedding. I think you should buy it and then get rid of the rest of your stress about dress shopping and cross this to do off your list!

  55. I’m getting married this summer, and my dress is from the Rosa Clara Soft collection. You should check them out! Very lightweight, so good for beach! They also have some with really pretty backs, as that was one of my main criteria 🙂 gotta show off that crossfit weerrrrkkk!

  56. have you seen Lady Rose’s wedding dress from Downton Abbey? most.gorgeous.thing.ever. kinda not traditional with embroidery that adds some color and the circular train is so pretty. wonder if my Hubs would marry me again so I could wear something like it? anyways, give it a google and see what you think of the fabric!

  57. I’m pretty sure I tried on that nicole miller one in lace! I also tried on a GIANT ball gown by her, which isn’t really my thing, but it was gorgeous. Love the wedding dresses in this post- def need some inspiration because I’m going wedding dress shopping every weekend for the next three weeks!

  58. I am totally with you on the house-buying process! The hubby and I are in the middle of a short sale right now, and all we want is to see the light at the end of the tunnel! Loved seeing all of the wedding dress pictures- it makes me want to get mine out of the closet for our upcoming anniversary! 🙂

  59. I love that blue dress, and while I am by no means a fashion-y expert, I think the silhouette and colour could be done with something lighter, maybe you could have a dress made?

  60. Juli, I don’t know how you possibly keep up with all your fans! I never comment although I’ve followed you for a long time…I just want to say that if I were to do it again (happily married now for three years, I would totally RENT a dress and spend the extra money on the honeymoon…or the new house, in your case. I loved my dress but it cost nearly as much to have it altered to be “just right” as it cost in the first place…and it just hangs in my closet (not even cleaned) to this day. I keep thinking I’ll dye it black so I can wear at again…so that’s my two cents. Think about it…

  61. Holy moly. I never comment, but I had to. You look so confident and beautiful in these photos. Doesn’t hurt that your bod is ON POINT. But seriously, you look so happy and confident. It is wonderful to see. Congrats! (Oh, and that first dress looks amazing on you!)

  62. You look gorgeous in all of the wedding dresses that you tried on!! Did you end up picking out a dress? If you’re still looking, please check out my website – http://www.adinasbridal.com. I have some beautiful wedding gowns for sale at affordable prices. And my Event Dresses make awesome bridesmaid dresses!

And I also wanted to let you know your blog is such an inspiration to me. I am working on losing 25 lbs from my pregnancy weight, and your recipes are a huge help! Thanks!!

  63. LOVE LOVE LOVE your blog! I’ve followed for years (both the blog, Facebook and Instagram). Random question, but how many bridesmaids did you have in your wedding?
