This Week’s PaleOMG Fashion

I’m sorry I’ve been so “omgimengagedomgomg.” I just can’t help it. And I’m not actually sorry. I fell in love with this guy two and a half years ago, we went through our ups and downs, we moved in together, we got a dog, and now we’re onto the next journey together and it’s all so damn fun. It’s a pretty fantastic feeling to love someone so much and for them to love you back just as much.  He’s so great. I wish I could say I’ll stop talking about the engagement, but that would be a flat out lie. I’m definitely going to talk about wedding planning because that’s so effing exciting! Especially since we are planning to do a destination wedding so that takes away from some of the stress.

So I only have two outfits for you this week because I’ve been living in workout clothes, sweat pants, and a really messy bun. All I’ve been doing is working on my next cookbook. This weekend I’m turning in the 120 recipes I created for you then finishing up the front matter and all the little extra stuff that goes in it, to turn in in the next few weeks. This point in the book creation process is always exciting because it means I get to concentrate on other things. Like getting you guys more free recipes on my site. That’s something I really miss doing when I’m writing a cookbook. I started this blog years ago to share free recipes and that will never change, so that’s exactly what I intend to pick back up after this is turned in! I just miss the freedom of cooking for my blog when I feel like it and writing freely about whatever is on my mind. Like our engagement. Ugh, Juli stop. My b.

So let’s get to the point so I can finish up my book and get to cooking for you all!! I’m really into this ugly sweater that doesn’t seem ugly to me. I found it on the sales rack of H&M for $10. That store always overwhelms me but I found this little diamond because it screams look at me. It’s comfortable, it’s not too heavy, and did I say it’s comfortable? I want to wear it all the time. Along with these flats from Steve Madden. Flats are the new heel. Just FYI, I bought a 1/2 size bigger based on reviews and they fit perfect!

{ Flower Multi-Colored Sweater on sale at H&M for $10 | STS Blue Destroyed Slim Boyfriend Jeans, in white for $54 in the Juniors of Nordstrom (sold out) – here is a similar pair | Steve Madden Ecentrcq Flats in Blush for $60 | MZWallace Julie Cocoa Bedford bag | Nasty Gal Such a Baller Earrings for $18}

This outfit will always be special to me, not just because I FREAKING LOVE this top, but because it was the outfit I was wearing when my now fiancé proposed. I really, truly love crop tops. But winter got me down like WHOA because I can’t wear high waisted skirts and itty bitty crop tops. Well, I guess I can, it’s like almost 70 degrees here in Colorado. Do people still believe in global warming or are people just over that? It’s just never talked about anymore about it’s pretty much spring here. I’m not complaining. No sir. Keep the snow in the mountains, I have fashion friday pictures to take.

Oh, Hi! I’m Juli.

I’m a food hoarder. And a really bad dancer. If you don’t know me well, you will probably not understand my humor. Therefore, I apologize ahead of time. Thanks for listening to my ramblings of my ever-changing life and trusting my kitchen mishaps. Your trust in me is appreciated.

  1. I highly recommend getting married at a Sandals (adults only, all-inclusive resort). They’re amazing resorts and take away all of the stress of planning a wedding. Once you decide where you want to go to get married, you don’t have to do anything until you actually get there and then I want to say it probalby took us less than an hour to pick out the menus and what not (of course I’m not terribly high-maintenance anyway and I sort of figured it was my day so whatever food I wanted everyone else would have to deal with – I’m kind of a bitch like that). My husband and I got married at the Grande St. Lucian 9 years ago in May. It was wonderful. We went to the Sandals Whitehouse in Jamaica for our 5 year anniversary and are trying to decide which one to go for our 10 year anniversary next year. Congrats again on your engagement. 🙂

    1. i’ve thought about Sandals! I brought up their website the other night to check it out! I’ve heard there expensive but I don’t really know what expensive means for destination. Do you mind me asking a range you paid?

      1. Congrats on the engagement, Juli! My brother & his fiance are planning their wedding at a Sandals resort in the Bahamas (Grand Exuma, I believe is the resort). I’m not sure of their expenses, but for us guests, it’s about 6k for the week for the hubs & I. Unfortunately we may have to cut the trip short.

Enjoy planning! This is one of the best parts!

  2. I can’t be the only one that wants to know more details about that sparkler! That is a seriously gorgeous ring. Congrats.

  3. Don’t apologize about the engagement excitement! It is so fun hearing about it, and I can’t wait to hear about how you plan your wedding.

  4. Your engagement outfit is SO cute! I was thinking “Wow this outfit is adorable!” and then you showed us the back. That blouse is to die for! Such an unexpected back– I love it!

  5. Congrats! Don’t stop talking about it because it is that exciting and your ring is absolutely gorgeous. I’m also having a destination wedding! October 23 at Azul Fives in Playa del Carmen!! It’s apart of Karissma resorts.. El Dorado’s etc. I highly recommend checking it out! Can’t wait to see all the things you pick out for your wedding 🙂

  6. I have a great idea! I think Food Network should have a show that you star in. Like Pioneer Woman….only you…..Food Network needs a paleo show, it’s the future. You are gorgeous, stylish, great personality, and you cook amazing food! I guarantee people would love it!

  7. Hellllllz yeah to a destination wedding! When my fiancé proposed last year we visited two venues here in CO and while both were nice (butt ugly in the winter haha) we said screw this, let’s ditch the stress and get married in Lake Como, Italy! And done. Most stressful part was renting apartments for our families and that’s it. Gorgeous setting, low low stress and just plain FUN like a wedding should be! We are stoked and couldn’t be happier with our choice to do what excites US! Best of luck and do NOT stop talking about it!!!! Absorb and enjoy every second of this exciting time!!!

  8. THANK you SO much for showing us flats! I’ve had foot surgery and I absolutely can’t wear heels. I love your outfits with the cute heeled shoes and boots, but I get all 🙁 because I can’t wear them. Love the flats, and I’m going to be checking out the Steve Madden site!

  9. I just bought the shirt from Inspyre Boutique because I had to have it since it looks so awesome on you! Congrats on your engagement

  10. Congratulations on the engagement, your ring is GORGEOUS and the story behind it is absolutely adorable. 🙂 My hubby and I had a destination wedding in Puerto Vallarta three years ago and it was hands-down the best decision I ever made. The whole process was SO stress-free and was a fraction of the cost of a traditional wedding here. Good luck in your planning process!!

  11. Destination is the way to go! My husband and I got married on a cruise ship in Alaska last summer- we didn’t have to stress about planning anything, and everybody in attendance had a vacation, as well!

  12. I just got married at NOW Sapphire Riviera Cancun and everything was perfect. Definitely worth checking out, if you’re looking in that area. If be happy to share costs and things with you, it you’d like.

  13. Congratulations on the engagement! I think you should also look into Couples Resorts, they have four locations in Jamaica (two in Negril and two in Ocho Rios). The resorts are adult only, all inclusive, and reasonably priced.

  14. We got married at El Dorado Royale(I think you’ve been there) and everything was PERFECT! 50 of our closest family and friends came. We are even going back there for our 5 yr anniversary AND we’ve had so many people tell us how much fun they had that a lot of our guests from the wedding are even going to join us for our anniversary trip! Destination weddings are the way to go!! If that’s something you’re looking into, I recommend going to destinationweddings.com and getting a wedding planner through them. It’s not expensive at all (I think it was $50, and then that money was credited back once we booked through her) and she was so helpful! Good luck on the planning and CONGRATS!

  15. If you’re looking at an all-inclusive, I would vote the Couples San Souci in Jamaica. We had a our honeymoon in a Sandals in Jamaica, and we’ve been to a number of other all-inclusives in Jamaica and some other places as well. The San Souci is our hands-down favorite. The grounds are so beautiful, with cliffs and jungle, and the buildings have a really nice vibe. The other resorts we’ve been to all have that overly-manicured look. Plus, the San Souci has a really nice au natural beach – totally the best!

  16. A word of caution, though – I’m not sure how well most all-inclusives understand GF. I know you feel like crap if you let yourself stray too far from paleo, and you definitely don’t want that on your honeymoon – you have (ahem) important things to be doing!!! I have spent a few evenings in the fetal position on the bed at all-inclusives over the years. Good luck with your choices, I look forward to living vicariously through your vacation planning for the next few months!

  17. Juli,
If you haven’t picked s location yet, check out Secrets Silver Sands resort in Mayan Riviera. They did a beautiful beach front wedding a few years ago. The resort is azazimg! All their packages are on the web site, itwas a smooth hassle free experience.

  18. I’m so happy for you, Juli! It’s impossible to not talk about your engagement…it’s one of life’s biggest moments! Good luck on your wedding planning. A destination wedding sounds like so much fun. I had over a year to plan my burlap and lace wedding at a local boy scout camp. It was perfect and I loved it. I can’t wait for you to get married and tell us all about that life experience as well. You deserve all the happiness in the world. You work so hard (even though I’m sure it doesn’t seem that hard when you are creating and taste testing yummy recipes) to give all of us healthy recipes to feed ourselves and our families. Congrats and the best times of your life are right in front of you 🙂

  19. Juli, I am so so sooooo happy for you! I have been following your blog since the old days when you used to joke about the hilarious, awkward things about being single..and now you’re happily engaged! It’s honestly so lovely to read about your growth over the years. Congratulations girl!
PS. Come to Toronto, Canada for your book tour!!! Not when it’s cold as balls like right now but in the summer/fall! 🙂

  20. I love your engagement outfit! and style in general. Do you mind sharing what size in the Emerald top you got? Trying to gauge between a Small and Medium which would fit best! Thanks & Congrats!

  21. Please do NOT stop talking about your engagement. That is SO exciting and I want to keep hearing ALL the details as they come along. Huge CONGRATS! Such an amazing engagement surprise story, and that green top engagement outfit is killer 🙂

  22. If you do destination wedding to Mexico, venture inland and find some street gorditas – literal translation “little fatties”. They’re pretty much burrito meets arepa stuffed on the spot with whatever you want. 🙂

  23. On a recent trip to Denver (I’m from MD) I made a specific trip to Inspyre based on your recommendation. I scored an amazing “leather” jacket. Thanks!

  24. Congrats to you on your engagement! I too just got engaged and am planning a destination wedding. We found a place in Mexico where we can rent the whole resort. Las Palmas in Cabo. 18 rooms, sleeping accommodations for 50. Anywho – have fun planning and I love your ring!

  25. You are gorgeous juli!! I’ve been following your blog for so long now. Congrats with everything and life. You’re a great inspiration.

  26. I love these posts! I am a very lazy dresser, so your posts provide a lot of fashion inspiration. Love the green button-back top. And congrats on your engagement! I just got married in June — enjoy the planning! 🙂
