You guys. I did some dumb shit yesterday. Why in the hell would I eat gluten? WHY GOD, WHY? Stop getting mad at me for saying God. Im real good at saying no to certain foods. Like fast food. Why the eff would you eat that? Come on, man. It’s 2015, get it together. But Christmas cookies? You have to. Nuts and toffee covered in chocolate to make the shape of a cookie?? YES PLEASE! Cake balls?? YES PLEASE! A dip with mystery ingredients in it?? YES PLEASSSSSE!! I pretty much just held my jaw open and let hell break loose. That sounded weird. Erase that. I just didn’t stop eating. Some years I don’t crave those foods, some years I do. I can’t control the time of the month that Christmas falls on. So this year, I just screwed myself over. I ate whatever I wanted, and really regretted it. People continuously ask me, ask meaning yell at me, why I don’t just eat a “regular” donut if I’m going to eat a gluten free one. Well, this is why. I feel terrible. It’s not worth the stomach ache that I get. But I guess it’s just one of those once a year things you have to do. Especially when around other family and friends. Meaning boyfriend’s family and friends. Not all people follow the same kind of lifestyle and I totally get that. So I’m sure as hell not going to be that offensive guest. No sir, no way. I’m still just the girlfriend. And I’d like it to stay that way. So I’ll be happy to eat crap once a year!

Can you believe the holidays are already over?? Geez Louise. They came and went so quickly. I really like that as the years go on, we get less and less presents. I mean, everyone loves presents but I hate getting random nicknack gifts that you don’t know what to do with because you feel bad throwing them out. This year, the boyfriend’s family and I decided to choose names so we would only have one person to buy for. Easy peasy. And the boyfriend said we wouldn’t buy for each other this year since we are saving for a house. Of course, he bought me these Sorel Medina II Boots and I cried a little inside. I’ve wanted these boots for so long now! He’s the greatest. But the person who chose my name was my boyfriend’s sister and she grabbed me a turquoise leather jacket and a Michael Kors bracelet. Pretty much the greatest Christmas presents ever. I can’t even. I chose my boyfriend’s brother and got him a GoPro so he can take it to spring break with him. I’m personally very happy that there were no cameras on any of my spring break trips, but I know for a fact he makes better decisions than I did. Oh the memories. The non-facebook memories.

Okey dokey boo boo. Let’s talk about outfits this week. This first one was an outfit I wore to the Botanical Gardens to look at all the lights with my parents since we didn’t get to see them on Christmas. Oversized sweaters are pretty much the best thing since sliced bread. So comfortable and so warm. And right now, so stylish. One of my favorite boutiques in town, Hailee Grace, is packed full of oversized sweaters right now and all of them are under $100! And this Anthropologie Lunan Anorak Jacket is still my favorite purchase of winter. Worth every penny in the cold Colorado air.

{ Leggings with Leather Stripe from Hailee Grace Boutique for $45 – similar pair here | White Oversized Hi low Sweater from Hailee Grace Boutique for $54 – similar one here | Grey Infinity Scarf from Target – similar one here and here | Anthropologie Lunan Anorak Jacket for $248 | Leather Studded Over the Knee Boots from Modcloth (last season) for $89 | Grace and Lace Leg Warmers for $35 }

This was my favorite outfit of the week because it was the most comfortable. AND because my hair was going on 5 days unwashed so the hat covered up the sketch area. These floppy beanies are my new favorite accessory for winter to stay extra warm without having to do your hair. It’s truly a genius idea.

{ Grey Flying Monkey Skinny Jeans from Hailee Grace Boutique for $54 – similar pair (40% off right now!) | Gap Terry Embossed Wave Sweatshirt | Black Leather Jacket from Francesca’s for $60 – similar one here and here | Lime Beanie from The Clymb for $13 | Sorel Medina II Boot for $225 | Open Knit Green Infinity Scarf from Modcloth (last season) for $25 – similar scarf and similar color }

My new favorite place to go in Denver is the redone Union Station. It’s the train station in town and recently they gutted the place, put a ton of restaurants and bars in and made just adorable. A bunch of our guy friends were doing a gift exchange, so us ladies grabbed some dinner at Mercantile. I spent FAR too much on champagne. You can’t trust your server to recommend a champagne. He will always go with the most expensive one. Bastard. I still tipped a lot because he said he loves Sons of Anarchy. I dig that kind of person.

{ Dark Turquoise Long Sleeve Blouse found at Inspyre Boutique for $30 – similar blouse | Skirt given to me from a friend – similar one here | Black Leather Jacket from Francesca’s for $60 – similar one here and here | Come Haute on Top Bootie from Modcloth for $50 – similar pair here and here |  Infinity Scarf from Target last year – similar here and here }

Oh, Hi! I’m Juli.

I’m a food hoarder. And a really bad dancer. If you don’t know me well, you will probably not understand my humor. Therefore, I apologize ahead of time. Thanks for listening to my ramblings of my ever-changing life and trusting my kitchen mishaps. Your trust in me is appreciated.

  1. I am that way too with gluten. I don’t have to go overboard, if it sneaks in somewhere I feel like crap the next day, so I’ve gotten really strict with keeping it out of my food when I’m out somewhere.

    All the photos are great, I especially love the one in front of the tree 🙂

  2. 100% agree about being okay with not as many presents as time goes on. To me it is more about being with family and friends and stuffing our faces with good food and lots of wine…Just kidding, well sort of. Hope y’all had a Merry Christmas and hope your tummy feels better!

  3. Who takes your pictures and what kind of camera? They always look fabulous. Doesn’t hurt to have a beautiful model in every one too!

  4. This was my first Christmas glutenfree/paleo. It went well even with having to bake 250 cookies for Christmas Eve service at church. I didn’t touch one of them.

    My wonderful Rooster got me jewelry and chocolate meringues.

    So I kept together my first year.

    I am so glad that you shared that you have days like this. I was almost crying when my SIL took us to dinner and they had a feast of fried appetizers. I tried to remind myself how bad I would feel later if I ate all that junk. I think I would have traded everything for one of those cheese sticks at that moment. But I held on. Later in the evening, my daughter and Rooster were complaining about eating too much. They were both looking for the TUMS. Not me.

    Have a wonderful New Years. God Bless.

  5. Alright, how do you keep your hair curly overnight?! I cannot for the life of me get mine to stay for multiple days (and I hate to keep using heat on it day after day… that plus Colorado climate are not doing it any favors.)

    And last of all, what’s your favorite dry shampoo?

  6. You’re a Renaissance woman: food, fashion, life… and a great sense of humor. Yes, weird humor, but great.

    Like seeing the fashion ideas. Have you ever looked at You are a 4…. which means that you are the most dramatic of the four types of women.

    I am a 4 also and since I did Carol Tuttle’s Dressing Your Truth Course I have LOVED my clothes and makeup and hair and look.

    We (4’s) are the only ones who should ever wear black or white. We need the drama of it. It washes all other women out.

    Take a look at Carol’s stuff if you want to have ALL of your clothes, shoes, jewelry, makeup, accessory choices be right on the mark.

    NO… I do not belong to Carol’s site or her business…. Just am a huge fan of getting back to who I really am in my clothing choices.

    Great site! Love your style and content…

  7. Hi Juli, I just found you as I was checking out Twitter, which I never do, but recently added a crap load of Keto and Paleo links and was blasted over the weekend with a lot of cool stuff. Hence, I found you. Shhh, although a busy monday at work I continue to check out your web site. Anyhow, really quick, I too gorged myself with all kinds of goodies, enough to pack on some extra pounds. What do YOU do when you do that? I mean what is the damage control protocol? Personally, next time I go to the gym I do a HIIT for like 30 or 40 Minutes, i.e. treadmill, eliptical, and/or stairmaster. AND I try to keep my mouth shut, no more goodies for a long while…just keep it clean nutrition. Then the following days I just do my regular weight training. Do you recommend something better? Please help!!

    1. Hey Pati!! Glad you found my site! As for getting back to pre-holiday body and confidence, I just get back to my regular routine: Doing CrossFit 5-6 times per week, eating 3 meals per day with 1-2 snacks if I need it, eating plenty of meat, fat and veggies and eating dessert when I want it. That dessert is usually some kind of dark chocolate. Routine gets me back to normal. Check out my Weekly Workouts posts and that shows exactly what my workouts look like!

  8. I love your blog and cookbooks (and sense of style)!! I’ve been eating paleo for awhile, but fell off the bandwagon over the holidays. I’ve decided that 2015 is the year that my hubby & 3 boys will be diving into this lifestyle too (most of the time). I love your perspective on the paleo diet and so far your recipes have been second to none! I, too, am a crossfit junkie–I’m drinking the kool aid as they say. Most recently, my husband tried Crossfit and he is hooked too!!

    I just want to say thanks for all of your advice and recipes, it’s SO appreciated!! I finally really enjoy cooking, it’s amazing what cooking with real, whole foods can do to a person!!

    Be blessed & Happy New Year!!

    1. thank you so so much for the sweetest comment ever! hope you love all the recipes you try! and good luck with 2015, you all are going to feel better than ever!

  9. Hi, First, love your website – the recipes, fashion pics, and Jackson! FYI – I bought the Medina II Sorel boots after seeing them in one of your Fashion Friday pics. Wore them yesterday and the straps kept coming undone. During a chat with the retailer I figured out that the boots came to me with the topcovers on wrong. Clasp is supposed to be on the outside. Thought I’d share in case you encounter the same issue, as I saw in one of your pics the clasps on the inside.
