I’ve been going through a bit of a rut lately. I feel like I’m not seeing results in the gym, I’m not seeing results with my work, and I’m not seeing results with my relationships. And those feelings can easily take over. They don’t just take over your mind, but they take over your body. Days feel less exciting and less purposeful and because of that, it can be hard to get moving. But this past weekend I decided to change my attitude. As I stood in front of the mirror on Sunday in my new Nike React Sneakers, I decided it was time to wash away the doubt and move forward. I decided it’s time to go the extra mile.

Self doubt is pretty interesting. It pops up out of nowhere and it takes over. It makes you question your hard work, your intentions and your purpose. And it’s hard to relinquish those feelings. The questions inside your head grow and expand, and before you know it, you can’t seem to pull yourself out of the hole you’ve dug. That’s how I’ve felt lately. I’ve felt like a bad friend, like I’m not fit enough, like my recipes aren’t good enough, like my posts aren’t interesting enough…it goes on and on. But that’s the funny thing about life. We go through these ups and down with doubt and then at some point, we finally get fed up with that feeling and move forward. And that’s exactly where I am at this point in time.

The first step to moving away from self doubt is going the extra mile. And that extra mile will look different to everyone. It may mean waking up an hour earlier to get in a workout that day. It may be pushing through a late night to finish up a project. It may mean picking up the phone every week to call a friend. Or it may just be sitting in silence for 20 minutes, reflecting on the progress you’ve made throughout the past month.

For me, my extra mile means becoming aware of what I’m doing and understanding that I’m capable of more. That I can always be better. And that there is always room for improvement. I want to become better all around and for me that means being more patient, being a better wife and friend, getting better at cooking, working hard at coming up with new content for my website, spending more time with the people I love, and getting in the gym day after day because I know my body deserves it. This may be a long list, but it’s all about going that extra mile to become a better person all around. And I’m up for the challenge. Because honestly, going the distance every day is pretty damn fun.

And luckily I have my Nike React Sneakers to go the distance with me. Whether I’m heading to the gym for a workout, grabbing a smoothie bowl with my girlfriends afterwards or working in my kitchen all day to come up with new recipes for you guys, my Nike React Sneakers feel just as comfortable as when I put them on. Which means I get more done throughout the day.

If you haven’t seen the new Nike Epic React running shoes, well it’s the perfect time to give them a try because the new summer colorways just released! The Nike Epic React first released in February and people have fallen in love with how comfortable these sneakers feel day after day, workout after workout. They are 11% softer, they have 10% more energy return, are 5% lighter, and last 600 more miles (compared to Lunar). You can learn more about the technology here! But what does all of this even mean? It means they are soft and springy and perfect for people on the move, plus they have an extremely sleek design with the flyknit material, so they are perfect for day-to-day wear. They were truly created for going the extra mile.

How will you go the extra mile tomorrow? What will you do to decide your own fate? How will you create your own destiny? Decide today, act tomorrow and pave the next mile for yourself. Because you deserve to be proud, to be excited, and to be in control of your own path. It’s all about deciding that you’re worth it. You’re worth the extra work. You’ve got this. Just do it.

You are one of the hardest working bloggers out there! And your Sweat and Snack series is an amazing idea! So many of your recipes are standards in our house, Lomo Saltado being in first place….yum! Do you think all your recent travel has contributed to your little rut? Just asking bc I love to travel as much as the next gal but it messes with my sleep, eating, and I find airplanes make me swell like a blowfish. Anyway you are such a hard worker and that always shows. Keep it up!

i think travel had to do with some of it for sure. it’s hard getting back to routine and having to work extra hard before travel to make up for the time lost. but it’s so worth it. just gotta learn to deal with stress a little better. thanks for the love Dana!!

This is one of the best posts I’ve seen here, and I can really relate except – did you really have to push this Nike advertisement that hard??? It really took a lot of the honesty and made this post nothing but another advertisement.
I get it, it’s your way to make a living and I truely appreciate how far you came (I’m a long time follower). Everyone who knows and read you understand that you need those promotions but 8 times????
To be honest, this is one (maybe the only) of the reasons I’m not following you as I used to. I feel that in everything that you write has done hidden interest involving money.
I could relate to this blog post much more if you would talk about the shoes in the last paragraph. The way you wrote it makes me believe that you overcame your rut only because if the amazing shoes and not because who and what YOU are, and I find it hard to believe that this is really your message 🙁

thank you for your feedback Kesem. i think you’re looking at it the wrong way. i honestly wouldn’t have written this post if it weren’t for the sponsorship. instead of just saying, hey here’s some new shoes i like kbye, i decided to share some personal feelings i’ve been going through. this opportunity to work with Nike gave me the ability to talk through some insecurities and get creative with how i work with my sponsors. people get upset if you simply push product or they get upset if you incorporate into your daily life and daily struggles, so it’s kind of hard to win. which is why i just do what feels right for me. sharing my story is what i plan to do with this website and sometimes that includes a sponsor. i hope that explains my intentions and goals with paleomg. sponsors is what keeps this blog going and helps me continue to be creative day after day.

I thought the connection between ‘going the extra mile’ and the shoes was genius. We find inspiration in all sorts of places, and TBH I think it’s awesome that you shared your feelings with us in such an creative, fun way.

        1. juli says:

thanks deborah!! i really appreciate it!

Your sincerity and authenticity in this post is incredible. Thank you for being vulnerable with us day in and day out. I want you to know- YOU are the reason I started CrossFit over a year ago. Hell- I even got my eyebrows microbladed because your eyebrows look so damn good. You are an inspiration, hilarious, and fit as hell. Thank you for all you do- from recipes to laughs on your podcast, to new outfits that make me feel amazing.

    1. juli says:

thank you so so much for the love!! i really appreciate it Vicky!! hope you eyebrows are looking fantastic!!

Your recipes are awesome! And you’re F’n funny! As for workout ruts…we all get in them! Sometimes we just need new gear or an Apple Watch to get us motivated. I’m one of the few guys that check out your recipes…I may not know much about the bachelor but I know your recipes are delicious! I make them from time to time at the fire house which is full of tough critics…but they also enjoy them! Thanks for making me look good in front of co-workers and in the gym! Looking forward to more Instant Pot recipes for the winter????. And now that you’ve had the air-fryer for a while is it really worth the money?

    1. juli says:

thanks for making my recipes for the fire house! so cool!! and yes, i LOVE it. it’s definitely become a staple in my house!

I’ve followed you for years, and I’m never disappointed with any of your content. I’ve made the food, listened to the podcasts, done the workouts, bought the products..all of it. You are the best! I guess I’m a fan girl, lol.
That being said, I want these shoes…are they good to wear for regular workouts (for example, the ones you sometimes post yourself doing)? Or are they too bouncy like some running shoes can be? Also, run true to size?
    Thanks so much!

    1. juli says:

i think so!! but i’m not super picky with my shoes. i’ve worn them at my crossfit gym and they’ve been great there! i just prefer my metcons for cf

  9. Melissa Noble says:

Juli- thank you for sharing this. You’re right, we all go through the ups and downs of life but we are trained not to open up and talk about them. We need to know that we aren’t alone in our feelings. Thanks for being you!

    1. juli says:

absolutely. it’s so nice knowing that you’re not the only one feeling that way

  10. Sarah says:

    Hi Juli!
I’ve been a long time follower.. a couple months ago I finalllllllly decided to try crossfit.. And I LOVE it. I have felt so much happier since joining and I feel like this is all thanks to you. Your The BEST :)!!! Long story short I need some proper gear. Would these shoes be your go to choice for crossfit? I would also love to see a post on all your current workout must haves! Love you and all that you do!!

    1. juli says:

that’s amazing Sarah!! so glad you loving it! i would personally go with a pair of metcons for crossfit. they are a little more sturdy for all the lifts and box jumps, etc. and i honestly don’t really have that many must haves other than outfit clothes, shoes and a jump rope. i’m not big into the cf gear like knee and wrist wraps and all that crap. i think it’s unneeded
