Love Unites Us All

I was lucky enough to grow up in a really loving and accepting family. I was never taught racism or sexism or bigotry. I was taught to love and accept people for who they are, especially good people. And the month of June embodies what I was taught from an early age. June is Pride Month. And Pride Month is all about rallying together to protest for equal rights and celebrate the amazing people in the LGBTQ+ community. It’s a time to honor how far we have come as a community since the 1969 Stonewall Riots, and to understand how far we still have to go.

If you stop by any of the Pride parades around the world this month, you’ll quickly notice a few things –

• Bright colors
• Huge smiles
• And some of the friendliest people you’ve ever met on a city street

Pride gives our communities the ability to express themselves, to lift each other up, and to rally together for a better future. These parades, rallies, and demonstrations all give people the confidence to be exactly who they are and to make connections with the community around them. It’s a time for celebration and it’s a time for love.

And right now, Express has partnered with with GLAAD and Out Magazine to launch the Love Unites collection to help spread the love! GLAAD led the national dialogue for LGBTQ+ acceptance following the Supreme Court’s historic marriage equality ruling, and since then has continued to serve as the voice for LGBTQ+ and marginalized communities. Love unites us all, and Pride Month is the month to remember that the most.
