Today on the podcast, I’m talking all about how my workout changes over the last 6 months messed with my hormones and body, how I noticed some adrenal fatigue to be setting in, and why I went back to CrossFit full-tie to heal not only my body, but also my mind!

This is Juli Bauer from PaleOMG and you are listening to PaleOMG Uncensored.

Juli Bauer: Hello, good morning. I’m saying hello to you from Houston, Texas. I’m sitting in my hotel room right now, on the bed, looking out at downtown Houston. I’m staying at Le Meridien. Which has been lovely. It’s so modern, and they have super cool artwork all over the place. The only thing I have to complain about is you have to pay for Wi-Fi. Why do hotels do that? I’m sure there’s a great reason behind it that I will never understand, nor care to. Because I’m paying like $35 in Wi-Fi fees. No joke. Isn’t that bananas?

Plus, I always buy internet on flights. And United Wi-Fi is pretty expensive. It’s like $15 for your flight, if not more. That’s a lot of Wi-Fi fees. But you’ve got to get that work done. You can’t not have Wi-Fi. My job is literally Wi-Fi.

Anyway. That’s such an annoying thing to complain about, right? I’m the worst. But, it’s like the 21st century. Isn’t there Wi-Fi everywhere? Shouldn’t we just have Wi-Fi as we’re walking down the street? Can’t you put Wi-Fi into my flight price? I guess not everybody uses the Wi-Fi? But, just plug it into everybody’s. Everybody would. Right? I don’t know. Maybe I’m just a b*tch.

So, being here in Houston. In Denver, it’s dry as f*ck all the time. Your face is just painfully dry. Your lips are dry. Everything is just awful and dry. And so you age faster. It’s quite annoying. But, here in Houston, in Texas, everywhere in Texas, it is humid as f*ck. And what’s funny is right now it’s not even humid. It’s been like 90-95 degrees, and not that humid based on the news I’ve been watching here. They’re like; don’t worry, the humidity is coming. I’m like; what do you mean the humidity is coming? Literally, my face is an oil ball.

How do people keep their makeup from just sweating off? Is it all just waterproof stuff here? And what’s the point of curling your hair? I know some people try to straighten it and it goes curly. Mine; I try to curl it and it goes straight. It’s like; why did I just take 45 minutes curling my goddamn hair. Not 45 minutes. That’s a lie. But I exaggerate literally everything. See, I just said literally. Ugh.

Anyway. I head back to Denver today. I worked with the tourism board in Houston here, and I’m going to do a recap of everything we did here. But I’m heading back to Denver tonight. And I’m so pumped, because my mother-in-law and her son {laughs} my brother-in-law are coming into town. And they fly in at the same time I land in Denver. So we’re just driving back to my house together. Meeting in the airport.

My brother-in-law just graduated college. And then he got his first job! Just found out about it two days ago. Or yesterday, actually. Well, when you’re listening to this, 2 days ago. And I’m so excited for him. It’s so cool when you get your first freaking job, and you just know that; ok, I can still pay my bills. Life is going to be ok while I figure out what the hell I want out of my life.

So the sad part is, he’s going to be in South Dakota. But the good part is, he will be in Denver this weekend. And I know he won’t be listening to this, because why the f*ck would he ever listen to my podcast? But we’re throwing him a surprise congratulations party. Like, congratulations, you not only just finished college, but you got a new job. And then it was just my mother-in-law’s birthday, so we’re celebrating her birthday and Mother’s Day. So it’s a jam-packed weekend. As soon as we land, we’ve got sh*t to do. Surprises to celebrate. But isn’t that so cute, he got his first job?

When I met him, he was just graduating high school. And this was when I first starting to date my husband. And he was graduating high school, and they had a graduation party. And that was one of the first times I hung out with my now sister-in-law. And I was really nervous because I didn’t know her, and I wanted her to like me. And I was dressing up, because she had the cutest style. I was so scared. And now she has to like me. {laughing} Jokes’ on her.

Speaking of, I’m trying to be more of a wing woman for my sister-in-law. Which is challenging because I don’t go out. She’s like; hey, do you want to go to this bar? Ok, that’s a lie. She doesn’t ask me if I want to go to the bar, because she knows I will say no. She’ll ask me if I want to go see a movie. Or if I want to have family dinner at my house, where I make her dinner. She knows I’ll do all those. But the whole going out, I don’t do.

But I have found myself wanting to do that stuff, because I want to be her wing woman. She deserves to have a wing woman. And what’s so cool about me being her wing woman is I have nothing to lose. I don’t care what people think if I come up and say; hey, my sister-in-law is super hot, do you want to date her? And what if they’re like; can you go away. No, I’m married, or something like that. I don’t care. I’m like; deuces!

So I’m trying to be a wing woman for her, because I have the most beautiful sister-in-law, and she’s intelligent, she’s so kind, so giving, and her last boyfriend I hope burns somewhere burny. I shouldn’t say hell because that’s mean. But I hope he burns in hell. So she deserves a guy who is not Satan. You know? I’m sure she loves me talking about her personal life.

But yeah. If there are any ladies out there, because no men listen to this. If there are any ladies out there that have a super hot brother, or cousin, or friend, that is not only good looking, but he has a secure job, he’s a confident guy, he’s funny, he’s fun to hang out with, he likes to do stuff. Because my sister-in-law is a doer. Well, let me know. Send me an email. Preferably, living in Denver. Because the whole long-distance thing; no thanks. Because I like her living in Denver.

Ok. Where did I; I got so off track. Ok, this is the most unexciting news that is so exciting to me. I am getting; I, we. I always do that. I’m such an only child. We; my husband and I, are getting a new garage door. I say I, because I’ve set it all up. I found the guy. I contacted the guy. The guy came out. I picked the door. So I say I. But that’s really selfish.

So we found a person to install a door, a new garage door. Our garage door has decided to not work. It closes and then it opens back up. And it’s not something with the sensor, it’s something else mechanically. And finding somebody to come out there has been impossible. So I was like; I’ve wanted a new garage door since we moved in three years ago. So let’s just get a new garage door. Let’s go with it. So we found somebody to install a modern glass door, so it has those glass windows. It’s this modern contemporary garage door. And being a homeowner as an adult is pretty lame. So that stuff is super exciting.

I also want to get a modern front door. And we live in a neighborhood that has a lot of modern mid-century homes. Ours isn’t; mid-century, modern, I don’t know. So a lot of these houses have these bright colored doors. Lime green, and yellow, and red, and they just have all these fun colors. Purple, I’ve seen. So I just walk around and take photos of people’s houses. And it’s so funny, because I have the Ring doorbell. So it sends you notifications in your area when someone says hey; this person stole a package. Hey this person was walking around and went into my backyard. Creepy ass f*cking sh*t like that.

But there was one the other day that was like; someone walked up to my front door and took a photo and then left. {laughs} And I was like; oh my god! Did they catch me? No, it wasn’t me. But I do that sh*t all the time. I’m like; oh my god, I love their garden. Oh my god, I love this flower. Oh my god, I love their window well cover. I’m going to stand on top of it and take a photo. I do that sh*t all the time.

So people have probably sent out notifications of me in their front yard, taking photos of their front door. So embarrassing. Luckily, I haven’t seen myself in any of these Ring notifications. Because that would be a bit humiliating.

But I took a bunch of pictures the other day, and I’m leaning towards either a yellow door, or a teal door. But I’ve been in Houston with Cassy from www.FedandFit.com. And she told me about you can look up whatever direction your front door is, you can look up the Feng Shui and what the best color is for that direction or something like that. And I know nothing about anything, so I’ll have to look that up. But it sounds interesting. I want good Feng Shui. I don’t know. I want it.

So, I’m going to get us a new front door. And I don’t know if my husband will go for yellow, or for teal. He might go for teal. Yellow is a bit out there. I’m sure he’ll be like; can we get white? Ugh. But we have a purple wall in our house. And I have bright colored paintings. I also went to this art area in Houston called Sawyer Yards, and found all these artists. And I was like; oh my god, I love this painting! Guess how much it was. $7900. $7900. Not $700. Not $900. $7900. So I won’t be getting that one. No.

So anyway. We’re getting a new garage door and front door, and it’s very exciting. My life is incredibly boring, sorry.

I’m going to take a quick break to tell you a little bit more about this weeks’ sponsor, Aaptiv. Aaptiv produces audio-based workouts created by certified personal trainers available through a mobile app. One of the best parts about the Aaptiv app is that you can workout anywhere. Whether you’re traveling, or you just put the baby down for a nap. Or you’re just feeling like working out in your living room, Aaptiv is ready for you anytime.

Aaptiv has expert trainers to help you stay motivated, and get you the best results from your workout. Plus, they have a variety of classes and levels, so anyone can workout, no matter what point you’re at in your own life.

When you open the Aaptiv app, you’ll have a ton of different workouts to choose from. Pick a running workout, or maybe strength training, indoor cycling, stair climbing, yoga, or even meditation. It’s like having your own personal trainer right in your pocket.

Once you pick your workout, you’ll have a certified personal trainer walking you through your audio-based workout. Plus, Aaptiv has an in-house music production team that partners with every trainer to create music playlists that are perfectly timed to the intensity and pace of your workout. When you need an extra boost, the music keeps you going and motivated. When you need to slow things down with the intensity of the music; the music comes down with you. It’s very nice.

Aaptiv has classes for all fitness levels, from beginner to intermediate to advanced. And with more than 2500 workouts available on the platform, and 30 new classes added every week; how insane is that? That’s so many workouts. There’s always a new workout for you to try. Or, simply pick a type of workout that you’re feeling up for that day. Whether it’s technical training, high energy coaching, or bootcamp style intensity. They have everything. No matter what you need from your workout, Aaptiv has your back. They even have a maternity program that breaks down by trimester. It’s such a cool feature. Especially since everyone I know is pregnant right now. {laughs} I guess that’s how the world is.

I’ve used Aaptiv myself when traveling, but I mostly love it for the stretching workouts. Because I never stretch after my CrossFit classes. But Aaptiv, I can turn on the app as soon as I get home from my workout and go through stretches in under 10 minutes. It just makes it so easy.

So Aaptiv subscriptions start at $14.99 billed monthly, or $99.99 for an annual membership. For a limited time, new members can get 30% off an annual membership. Which means it’s just $69.99 for an entire year of unlimited workouts. So all you have to do is visit Aaptiv.com/PaleOMG and you can get 30% off your entire year membership.

Ok. So, let’s talk about what the hell is going on here. Because I have to get to a CrossFit class soon. I booked one here in Houston at Cityside CrossFit. One of the owners reached out to me, which was so nice. And I was actually looking at their website the second they reached out to me. So that worked out perfectly. So I need to go to that class soon.

But, that brings us to the topic at hand today. I talked about this on my Monday weekly workouts blog post. I talked about how I had changed up my workouts, and I was back at CrossFit full time. So, I want to share the experience I had of trying different things and doing different stuff and figuring out what worked for my body and what didn’t feel right.

So back in December, and I talked about here, as well. But back in December I decided I want a better butt. I want a nice, shapely, round butt. And so I started doing a bunch of butt workouts on the side. But I still wanted to keep up with my CrossFit workouts of 5 CrossFit workouts or so a week. And then I wanted to do the butt workouts. So I talked myself into thinking I wasn’t doing 2-a-days, because I was just doing accessory work. And I was doing 2 workouts, for sure.

So after a while, I noticed my legs are just getting bigger. My butt looks better, but my legs continued to get bigger, and I’m just not interested in that. I don’t feel comfortable like that. And I just started kind of slowly gaining weight that I hadn’t in the past. And for me, I have gone through adrenal fatigue back in probably 2012. And had to slowly come out of it, and it took me quite a while to lose 30 pounds. It didn’t just take a year or a few months. It took 3 years to really lose 30 pounds. And get back to where my body wanted to be naturally.

I’ve been having some questions about adrenal fatigue, so I just want to talk about that a little bit. I was never diagnosed by a doctor with adrenal fatigue. I just had all the signs of adrenal fatigue. I was gaining weight. I wasn’t sleeping as well. I had hair loss, in my actual scalp hair loss. And I had really weird mood changes. I was just all over the place.

So, one of the main ways to deal with adrenal fatigue is to stop putting your body through so much stress. So that also means your actual life stress. So business stress and everting. But then on top of it, that means your stress in the gym. So I was doing multiple workouts a day before, and I had to stop doing that. And cut way back. I started eating more carbohydrates. And they say to eat, for adrenal fatigue, they say to eat less carbohydrates and more fat. And that did not work for me. I ate that way for a long time. And I added in more carbohydrates because CrossFit workouts are so demanding.

Then over 3 years, I was able to lost 30 pounds. Three years. It did not just come off. And that was resting more, working out way less. Only one workout a day. Five workouts a week. Resting more. Eating more. And, this is a big one, not talking sh*t about myself constantly. And not being pissed about where I was in that moment in time. Because I think it’s so easy to be sad and be upset and just think; ok, I hate myself. I hate what I look like. I’m going to go workout. So not only are you putting your body through stress in a workout, but you’re stressing yourself out constantly as well. So I stopped doing all those sh*tty behaviors. And over three years, I was able to lose weight.

So as I started adding in these butt workouts, I had to talk myself into believing that I wasn’t doing multiple workouts a day. Because I was doing accessory work, and I wasn’t breathing heavy like I do in CrossFit workouts. Because I was just lifting, or doing body weight stuff. So I wasn’t getting the same pain that I do in CrossFit workouts.

So as I was doing this, I started to notice that my body was changing. I was gaining weight. My legs were getting bigger. And that’s a true sign for me; when my diet has not been changing, and I’m working out regularly, that I’m putting myself into adrenal fatigue. That was a good sign for me. So I stopped it. I stopped doing these two a day workouts. I kept trying to do; I was doing CrossFit two to three times, and the butt workouts two to three times. And still I was continually gaining weight, and my body was changing.

So, then I have been seeing a chiropractor about some neck issues I’ve been having. And here’s the thing; I competed in CrossFit. I did thousands upon thousands of deadlifts, and thousands upon thousands of handstand pushups. And over time, I have all this scar tissue throughout my body because of all the workouts and the strain that I put myself through in my competition days. I started noticing I was having all these flareups. I was having constant headaches. My traps would tighten up as soon as I would start to workout.

So I went and saw this chiropractor, and I’ve been working with him ever since. And I’m just going once a week now. I was getting scared that I wasn’t going to be able to do CrossFit at all. So I bought this pass called Class Pass in Denver. I think it’s available in other states. But in Denver, where you can go try different workouts. You can go to multiple gyms instead of only having one gym membership to one place.

So I started adding in yoga sculpt classes, and Lagree megaformer Pilates. So I started adding those in. And I even said on Instagram, I’m worried I’m going to gain weight from this. From yoga; well not as much yoga sculpt, but the whole Lagree. You know, you’re burning and you’re not drenched in sweat and you don’t feel like a car just ran over you. But you just worked your muscles until they stopped working. So it’s just a different feeling. And I was nervous that my body would change in a way, because I’m not doing the same heavy lifting that I do in CrossFit.

And it was funny, because this blogger in Denver, she told me; you’re not going to gain weight that quickly from just doing Pilates. And after what happened; it’s so funny to me. People think they always know other people’s bodies. And they just don’t. And what happened? I gained weight from not including heavy lifting into my routine.

So, I just went through a tough time of not feeling comfortable in my body. And also, not feeling happy about what I was doing. For me, what CrossFit became for me was being able to go into the gym and accomplish something numbers wise. Ok; I can clean 165 now. I can deadlift over 200 pounds now. I can do 20 kipping pullups. I can do a muscle up. It became all about being able to do something in the gym instead of what I looked like.

And when I was going to these Pilates megaformer classes. I don’t know if they’re called megaformer or Pilates. I don’t know; someone will get annoyed and tell me how wrong I am. But as I was going to these classes, yoga sculpt and this megaformer class. They all have mirrors everywhere. And as I’m staring in the mirror, I’m looking at everything on my body constantly. And I’m like; oh, I don’t like this about myself. And I don’t like this. When I move like this, I can see cellulite here. And I’m just thinking about all this sh*t during my workout instead of the workout at hand. And CrossFit, I don’t think about that. I might be having a weird issue that day, and I go into my CrossFit gym and I immediately stop thinking about that. And that’s what I love about CrossFit so much.

I know, I’m sure there are some mirrors in some CrossFit gyms. But any of the CrossFit gyms I’ve ever been to don’t have mirrors. And I think that’s so important. Because not only; people think they have to see their form. But you can really figure out your form without seeing it. If you start becoming aware of your body. Spatial awareness. You just become aware of your body and how it’s moving.

And you stop thinking about how you look, and you stop comparing yourself to other people in the gym. You’re just thinking about your workout at hand. At least for me. And so, not only was my body changing because I wasn’t lifting weights. But it was changing because I was putting myself through more stress mentally. And I was messing with my cortisol through being upset about how I look. It just was f*cking stupid. It was just stupid.

So, I decided. I told my chiropractor; I want to go back to CrossFit. I want a few weeks of just CrossFit by itself. And I want to see how my body reacts to that. Because I had just gone on vacation to Guadeloupe, and I was ready to get back in the gym. But I know now that overhead stuff, like overhead squats, snatches, handstand pushups, anything like that really flares up my traps and flares up my upper back and messes with my neck. So I am stopping any of those. I’m modifying.

So now, the other day it was supposed to be snatches and I did squat cleans. And there were supposed to be handstand pushups, and I did deficit regular pushups. So I’m changing it up based on what I can do and what makes me feel best. And even after one week of CrossFit, I felt back to myself.

I really, I have to make sure I stay away from alcohol and sugar. Because as soon as I consume any alcohol; even if it’s just one drink at dinner, I can tell the difference in how I feel both mentally and physically.

So, what I’ve found from doing all of this is CrossFit works best for my body and what my goals are. Both physically and mentally. I want to feel my best in my clothes. I want to feel my best naked. I want to feel my best every single day. And lifting is what does it for me. And even though I think all these other gyms are amazing. I think barre is amazing. I think yoga is amazing. I think megaformer Pilates is amazing. I think all these gyms have such amazing attributes, and such amazing instructors, and really change the lives of so many men and women. But for me, CrossFit is that workout that makes me feel so much better. All around.

And I probably gained about 10 pounds throughout my 30th birthday, and on my 30th birthday trip, because we were having more sugar. And I wasn’t doing CrossFit workouts. So I gained about 10 pounds. And I say that, saying I don’t weigh myself. But I know my weight. I know when my weight goes up and down. I can always tell. And my weight, I can really see the difference, and I knew I was up about 10 pounds.

So, I was able to lose; I’ve probably lost about 6 of those pounds. I’m guessing. 6-7 pounds. My weight goes up and down every single day. I can always see the difference and feel the difference. Especially when I’m traveling, and drinking less water, having desserts, having drinks, and just stuff that I normally wouldn’t at home.

But at the end of the day, when I’m back doing CrossFit 5 days a week, I’m not obsessing about my body. I’m eating my best and not drinking alcohol. I feel my best. And I have to make sure I don’t overdo it on my workouts. And I have to make sure I don’t under do it for what my body needs. Under do it is not a word, I get it. But whatever.

I just wanted to share that experience. Because one of my followers on Instagram said something about how I mentioned in a past podcast adding in butt workouts made me gain weight in my legs, and she experiencing that same thing. So she thanked me for sharing that feeling, and that experience. Because it really connected with her.

So that’s what I feel like I’m doing on any of my podcasts or any of my blog posts. I’m just trying to share my experience. Like with acne, and acne medication, and post acne scarring care. Whenever I’m sharing any of that information, or products I love, or snacks that I love. It’s because those things have made a difference in my life, and I wish I could have had other people to share that experience with. Or someone else who had gone through that and told me about that. So, I’m like; oh, I should change that behavior.

But we live in a world that’s like more is better. And if you want to lose weight, you have to eat less and you have workout more. So that’s what we turn to. And you really don’t have to do that. You just have to take care of yourself overall, both in your body and your mind.

So I just wanted to share that experience with you guys. What I experienced, what I went through, and that I think we just think Instagram. And I think I go through this; I don’t know if you guys go through this. But when I watch Instagram, or look at Instagram, and look at the explore feed, or look at some of the fashion bloggers I follow. And everybody looks like they just have this perfect life. And it’s such a mindfuck. You’re like; how does everybody in the whole world have a perfect body. What am I doing wrong? And you know that so many of those people go through that. And we just see the world a certain way when we look at social media.

So I just wanted to share my actual experience and what I’ve gone through. And what I’ve had the past few months. And how I’m trying to change it. I’m so excited to just be back at CrossFit full time. And I really like adding in; some of those classes once in a whole, but mostly CrossFit, because for me, free weights and lifting and powerlifting and Olympic lifting, and running, and chasing after somebody in a workout. All these things are so empowering to me. And to know that I push myself harder than I ever have or some days I just took it a little bit easier. Just knowing that I challenged myself with weights. It’s just, there’s no other feeling like it. It’s such a cool feeling.

And I talk about CrossFit all the time. But seriously, if you haven’t experienced CrossFit, and you’re still scared to. I met this woman this past week, and she was like; I always wanted to try CrossFit, but I feel like need to get in shape before I try it. And that’s 100% not true. And I totally get where you’re coming from if you ever feel that way. But, you really don’t need to do that. What you need to do is go try a workout. Try a few workouts. Try a few gyms. And just find something that works for you. And if it’s not CrossFit, that is so ok. I’m just sharing my experience because CrossFit has changed my life in so many drastic, positive ways. And whenever I feel off. Whenever I feel like I’m not myself, I go back to CrossFit and I feel alive again. I feel like myself again.

So I’m really excited to be back to it full time. And to see what happens in the coming months as I take a little bit better care of myself, both mentally and physically.

Don’t over do it! It’s just not worth it. And it’s so easy to talk yourself into thinking that it is. Ok? Ok?

Sorry today is a short little podcast. I just am in between. I’ve got to go to the gym. I’ve got to go to the airport. I’ve got to fly home. I’ve got to drive home. I’ve got to unpack. I’ve got to wash my clothes. It’s just one of those days.

But I’m going to do a recap. And I’m supposed to fly out to Palm Springs on Monday. But I don’t know if that’s happening {laughs}. It’s very confusing. I’m supposed to land in Denver on Friday and leave Monday. But I don’t know if it’s happening. We’ll see.

But anyway. If you haven’t been to the blog this week, I shared two recipes that you absolutely need to try. I shared a biscuits and gravy breakfast pizza, and a Greek yogurt collagen chocolate chip muffin. And people are driving me f*cking crazy with this muffin recipe. I shared that it’s not dairy; don’t worry. This Greek yogurt is an almond Greek yogurt. It’s ok. Don’t freak out.

And then people are like; can I sub? Can I use almond flour? Can I use not tapioca flour? Can I use something else than cassava flour? I’m like f*ck, guys. I made this recipe this way. I didn’t make it 47 other ways. If I did, I would have shared those recipes. But just go try these recipes out. Just make the recipe how it is. Don’t mess with it. Because it turned out absolutely perfect. I’m so proud of this muffin recipe. So just make it how it is. Ok? I sound so bitchy. But that’s how I am.

And then I also shared a post about Mother’s Day gifts. And I know it will be too late with that, but it’s with Tula. Kind of giving the gift of glowing skin. So hopefully you’ve tried Tula yourself, and it’s been life changing for you like it has been for me. But then you can share those life changing products with the person you love, like your mother. Or your friend. Or your sister. Or your husband, honestly. They can use those products, too.

A woman told me on my blog the other day that Tula completely transformed her son’s hormonal acne. Which is f*cking awesome. So awesome.

So I have a discount code for Tula products. So you can get 20% off your Tula order when you use code PaleOMG. So I talk about that on the blog. I also have a deal with Butcher Box right now that when you sign up to get your first Butcher Box order, you’ll get 2 pounds of free sockeye salmon. So you’ll definitely want to check out that. And then I also shared some activewear and athleisure wear. I shared a lot this week. So head to the blog. Head to www.PaleOMG.com if you haven’t checked it out this week. But seriously; go make those recipes, and try them out, and let me know what you think of them.

And until then, be cool, ok man?

Oh, and I wanted to tell you about a new podcast I started listening to. If you like true crime. I know not everybody’s into hearing about f*cking disgusting murders. Which is completely fair. But I’m into it. So if you like true crime, you need to listen to True Crime Garage. I’m so excited. A friend at the gym told me about this podcast. She’s super into true crime. We started talking about it at the gym, and we’re like; we need to go to coffee sometime and talk about this. Because this is not appropriate gym talk. I guess it’s not appropriate coffee talk, either.

So, check out True Crime Garage. They recently did a BTK four-part special. That’s amazeballs. It’s so good. And all 4 episodes are out already, so you can listen to that. BTK story is crazy. That one is crazy. Do you guys remember BTK? If you’re a true crime junkie, you obviously know what I’m talking about. If you don’t; oh my god. The story is bananas. And they have all kinds of different other stories. And I think that’s the only podcast suggestion I have at the moment.

If you have anything for me, please send them my way. I’m always looking for new podcasts. Because, I listen to a lot of Bachelor podcasts, but they don’t have anything to talk about, because the Bachelor is not on. I don’t want to listen to your bullsh*t recording with non-Bachelor people. No thank you.

Ok. So I’ve got to go. I’ve got to go do stuff. You’re amazing. I can’t believe you listen to this podcast. Thank you. You’re the best. I’ll talk to you soon. Bye-bye.

As a fellow true crime podcast aficionado, I’d love to share some of my favorites:

Casefile – IMHO, the best overall true crime podcast out there. It’s amazing.
Crime Junkie – just found this one, really loving it and binging to catch up
Disgraceland – all about crimes involving celebrities, very fascinating
Criminology – Season 1 was about The Zodiac Killer, Season 2 was about the Golden State Killer
True Crime All the Time & True Crime All the Time Unsolved – great guys, very funny banter
Thinking Sideways – try the episodes about DIA, The Shining, Michele Miscavige (missing wife of Scientology leader), and TWA Flight 800
Real Crime Profile – worth listening to just because of one of the hosts, Laura Richards, is the most bad-ass, kick-ass crime fighter out there
Finding Cleo – about the search for a missing Native girl, very very interesting and well done
Gone – about missing artifacts, like art and valuables stolen during WWII
Empty Frames – about the Isabella Stewart Gardner Art Museum heist in Boston in 1990
Crimetown – all about my home state, Rhode Island, and the insanity I grew up with
Canadian True Crime – hosted by an Australian who moved to Canada, it’s well done with interesting cases
    The Minds of Madness
    Court Junkie
    Already Gone
    Marcia Clark Investigates
And one non-true crime one: Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard

These are in addition to the ones you’ve mentioned before, like MFM, Wine & Crime, Sword & Scale, The Vanished, True Crime Garage. I listen to even more true crime podcasts than I listed above, but these are my favorites.

    Happy listening!

This episode was just what I needed to hear this week, especially the bit about influences from social media. I know these athletes post all these awesome pictures or videos of super heavy lifts to inspire others, but much of the time it just creates this negative feedback loop for myself. I’ll think, “Well, why haven’t you worked that hard or why can’t you lift this much? What is your excuse?” Then it becomes this slowly forming few minutes of beating myself up over it. I’ve stepped back and realized this is counterproductive and mentally unhealthy. The “unfollow” button has been a good friend lately, and I find I lean more towards the quirky, hippie yogis and their lengthy philosophy posts on life , haha.

I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed this week’s podcast. I’m a faithful listener and there are always those posts that hit closer to home. I’ve recently decided to make my health and my body a bigger priority. I’ve rediscovered the types of workouts that I love and that my body loves. I’m struggling on the diet aspect, but not giving up. Thanks for being honest with your struggles and your successes.

Amazing episode! Been following you for FOREVER… and I went through something similar recently. I did CrossFit for years (my brother owns a CF gym here in Dallas) but after seeing sooooo many influencers/bloggers bash on CrossFit and going more the boutique fitness route, I of course got curious about that. I tried pilates, bootcamp classes, yoga, spin.. all with tons of mirros! Being in the boutique classes just made me instantly compare myself to everyone else’s bodies around me.. it was like real life instagram. When I’m at CrossFit, I feel powerful, strong and my best self – i think it’s amazing you found what works best for you and honestly, it inspires ME to see you stick to your authentic self!

I second the recommendations for Finding Cleo, True Crime All The Time (plus Unsolved) and Criminology. I also like these:
    -Serial Killers (Parcast)
-Unsolved Murders: True Crime Stories (Parcast- this one does some vignettes that make it more of a story)
-Someone Knows Something (Canadian cases, so good)
    -In the Dark
    -Criminal
-Forensic Files; the old TV show made into a podcast format
-This is Love (non-true crime, but same narrator as Criminal)
-I Tell My Husband the News (married couple where a journalist wife reads her comedian husband the news)
-Done Disappeared (true crime parody show)

I’ve started listening to some of the podcasts you’ve mentioned before, like Color Me Dead and Sword and Scale. Also love your podcast (obviously), I look forward to it every Saturday morning. Thanks for doing what you do!

PaleOMG, I wish I had started listening to your podcasts sooner! I am not caught up, so I probably won’t listen to this one for awhile, but let’s be real…I’m gonna binge these. Been making your recipes for years (shoutout to pad thai casserole!) and I’m so glad I caught onto the podcast listening trend. You’re getting me through some rough work days at the moment. My only regret is that I am too late for that damn Eating Evolved discount.
Thanks for everything you do. Your podcasts always make me feel like I’m just hanging out with friends.

Three weeks ago I got an earthing mat, have you heard about it? I have been sleeping on it every night and it has changed my body! I used to have really bad muscle soreness after workouts and now it is very little, I also sleep 100 times better and deeper with amazing dreams. You may want to look into it for your neck issues and joints, it helps decrease inflammation in the body. I got mine from earthing.com I think, but there are others available online. I will be sleeping on it for the rest of my life, if possible!

    1. juli says:

      i’ve never heard of that!

I have read your blog and listened to podcast sporadically through the year. I don’t think I’ve ever commented, but I just HAD to after listening to this podcast. THANK YOU Juli! I cannot agree more with your thoughts. 1) we as women, as individuals, have a right to decide how we want to look. If we want legs that are muscular, or more thin. If we want to have ripped abs or a softer flat stomach, or not flat at all, because we decided it was more fun to just have fun! — We can have our own fitness goals outside of that, of course, but we still have a right to make decisions for our appearance that feel right for us. 2) we are all SO different! More exercise is not better, and what works amazing for one person can be the wrong approach for another. I hate this idea of “one size fits all.” This seems to be a thing as well with all the instagram “after” photos as though that persons body is 100% a result of a specific 6 week program. So much of our physique and natural weight and shape is determined by genetics. Exercise should help us to feel confident in our shape, help us make the most of what we were born with. Not strive, mostly unsuccessfully, to look like someone else.

Final note, for me, doing video progress “pictures” have been much better than looking at photos or even seeing how my clothes fit. I’m naturally lean in my legs, so once I started lifting, it was easy to feel discouraged when my pants were too tight. However, seeing a full body video of myself helped me see how my legs were growing and more in proportion to the rest of my body. How overall, I looked better, not to mention all the increased strength and power for any activity. I say this to suggest it to anyone who seems to hate progress pictures. It’s been a very body positive activity for me.

it’s so easy to get wrapped up in social media and feel like you should look like someone else. i do it all.the.time and have to cut myself off of social media completely for a while. and once i do that, i instantly feel better about myself and my own progress throughout the years. body positivity is all about whatever works best for you. and i’m glad you’ve found that for yourself!
