I’ve gotta face it. Not all people like to eat meat for breakfast. I know I couldn’t even fathom eating steak or chicken or pork for breakfast when I first started zone then paleo. When I first started changing my diet, I had to make shakes every damn morning. Thinking about eating meat in the morning made me sick to my stomach.  But then I finally started just eating leftovers because running the blender at 4:30am is never fun, for anyone. My parents would have kicked me out…especially since I wasn’t paying rent when I lived with them after college. Actually, maybe they would have paid ME for living with them if I would have made shakes like this back then. Yep. I bet they would have.

This shake is made for those that hate breakfast in meat form. If you like to drink your breakfast because you’re “too busy”…mmmm hmmmm…I think that’s just you being lazy and not wanting to eat meat. Sweets are delicious, especially in the morning. I understand. But I drive a stick shift and still get away with eating leftover chicken and veggies while driving. Safe? No. Healthy? Yes. But I did drink this for lunch the other day and it was pretty damn filling. I wasn’t hungry for a good couple hours after. Hope you love it as much as I do!

While you’re reading this post, I will be in Boston. Well, probably flying there. Getting to Boston from Denver takes a bit. I’m kind of nervous. I get lost walking around the block. So going to place I have literally no clue where I am…well, that makes me nervous. I better pack A LOT of deodorant. And I actually had to go shopping for real people clothes. Turns out not all people who film cooking shows wear workout clothes. Weird, I know.

Hey have you ever watched My Drunken Kitchen? If you haven’t, you’re one of the few. Her videos have hit almost 2 million views on YouTube. TWO MILLION. Whoa. But if you’re easily offended…well…I’m not sure why you’re reading MY blog, but you’ll probably be offended by her. She gets drunk and cooks. It’s awesome. She’s pretty damn hilarious! Someday people might think my videos are cool, until then, I will just bore the few that fall unfortunately onto my YouTube station. JOKES ON YOU!

Gosh that smoothie looks amazing – I’d never though of using pumpkin before – and anything with cinnamon in always tastes amazing!

Pumpkin is awesome! And so versatile!

  2. wendy says:

is there a reason for cashew butter, specifically? Just wondering if I could sub hazlenut or almond butter instead or would that taste funny?
Enjoy Boston!! It is a beautiful (and walkable) city!

    1. juli says:

I tried it and loved it!!!

  4. Heather says:

Does it have a heavy pumpkin taste? And what does the cashew butter offer? Is it like a thickener?

I’m not a paleo eater but I do look for high protein options for my diet. I’m thinking I could replace the cashew butter with plain greek yogurt. Thoughts?

    1. juli says:

Not super heavy pumpkin taste. The cashew bring a bit of creaminess to it and thickens it a bit as well. You could definitely use greek yogurt!!

  5. Pottsie says:

Ohhhh I could tweak this to include what I’ve got and hit the road. I even have canned pumpkin that a good friend of mine suggest I buy to use for soup.

  8. Emma says:

This looks awesome! Pity I only have 2 of the ingredients (cinnamon and protein powder), guess I’m going to the shops!!

Did you use fresh or canned pumpkin? I’m from Aus and we don’t seem to have canned pumpkin, but I guess I could just cook some and cool it. Also, do think it would still taste good with coconut milk instead of almond milk?

    1. juli says:

I did use canned pumpkin, but cooking your own would work just fine! And I’m sure coconut milk from the carton would work great! If you are using canned coconut milk, use some water as well so it’s not quite as thick!

      1. Emma says:

        Awesome, thanks for the tip!

      2. Amika says:

I used Full fat coconut milk and it worked way better than almond milk! But that’s just me 🙂

  9. Stephanie says:
