I’ve gotta face it. Not all people like to eat meat for breakfast. I know I couldn’t even fathom eating steak or chicken or pork for breakfast when I first started zone then paleo. When I first started changing my diet, I had to make shakes every damn morning. Thinking about eating meat in the morning made me sick to my stomach.  But then I finally started just eating leftovers because running the blender at 4:30am is never fun, for anyone. My parents would have kicked me out…especially since I wasn’t paying rent when I lived with them after college. Actually, maybe they would have paid ME for living with them if I would have made shakes like this back then. Yep. I bet they would have.

This shake is made for those that hate breakfast in meat form. If you like to drink your breakfast because you’re “too busy”…mmmm hmmmm…I think that’s just you being lazy and not wanting to eat meat. Sweets are delicious, especially in the morning. I understand. But I drive a stick shift and still get away with eating leftover chicken and veggies while driving. Safe? No. Healthy? Yes. But I did drink this for lunch the other day and it was pretty damn filling. I wasn’t hungry for a good couple hours after. Hope you love it as much as I do!

While you’re reading this post, I will be in Boston. Well, probably flying there. Getting to Boston from Denver takes a bit. I’m kind of nervous. I get lost walking around the block. So going to place I have literally no clue where I am…well, that makes me nervous. I better pack A LOT of deodorant. And I actually had to go shopping for real people clothes. Turns out not all people who film cooking shows wear workout clothes. Weird, I know.

Hey have you ever watched My Drunken Kitchen? If you haven’t, you’re one of the few. Her videos have hit almost 2 million views on YouTube. TWO MILLION. Whoa. But if you’re easily offended…well…I’m not sure why you’re reading MY blog, but you’ll probably be offended by her. She gets drunk and cooks. It’s awesome. She’s pretty damn hilarious! Someday people might think my videos are cool, until then, I will just bore the few that fall unfortunately onto my YouTube station. JOKES ON YOU!

OH YUM! I’ve had a lot of bad pumpkin smoothies, but this was great! I used a couple T almond butter instead of the protein powder/cashew butter and added vanilla stevia drops, spinach, chia seeds, lots of ice, and some water. I’ll make this again – thank you! By the way, I stumbled onto your blog via google – looking forward to reading more!

I wish mine had turned out the pretty purple color that your shake did. I think it has to do with the hemp/pea protein powder I used, it’s sort of greenish brown (yuck). But the taste was good!

Drinking this right now for breakfast! Super NOM!
I used coconut milk since I don’t have any almond at the moment and used almond butter.
Just starting out with introducing some paleo meals into my family’s diet and I am LOVING your site! Thank you so much!
(You need to do a cookbook!!)

This sounds delish! I’m not paleo… I’m attempting to be vegan-and this smoothie is totally vegan! I’m going to have to try this soon!

  7. Shelly says:

I used almond coconut blend milk and almond butter. It was pretty good but I went back and added some vanilla and ice. I will probably make this at least once a week if it sticks with me for a few hours.

OMG just tried this and it is DELISH!!!!! I used almond butter because I had no cashew butter but this did taste just like pie. I’m new to Paleo, started on 7/10 and already lost a good amout of weigh( 27 lbs), but I am a picky eater and was getting a little tired of scrambled eggs and bacon, so this was a nice change. I LOVE your blog and have told probably ten people let alone in the last week about it. Phenominal recipes, you ROCK!!!!

This smoothing was AMAZING… tastes like pumpkin pie and whip-cream… I have made it a regular in my morning routine 😉 HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

  10. Christina D. says:

I wonder how this would be as a base for some ice cream. Anyone try that? I’d probably sub the almond milk for coconut milk which it seems people have had success with.
