I’ve gotta face it. Not all people like to eat meat for breakfast. I know I couldn’t even fathom eating steak or chicken or pork for breakfast when I first started zone then paleo. When I first started changing my diet, I had to make shakes every damn morning. Thinking about eating meat in the morning made me sick to my stomach. But then I finally started just eating leftovers because running the blender at 4:30am is never fun, for anyone. My parents would have kicked me out…especially since I wasn’t paying rent when I lived with them after college. Actually, maybe they would have paid ME for living with them if I would have made shakes like this back then. Yep. I bet they would have.
This shake is made for those that hate breakfast in meat form. If you like to drink your breakfast because you’re “too busy”…mmmm hmmmm…I think that’s just you being lazy and not wanting to eat meat. Sweets are delicious, especially in the morning. I understand. But I drive a stick shift and still get away with eating leftover chicken and veggies while driving. Safe? No. Healthy? Yes. But I did drink this for lunch the other day and it was pretty damn filling. I wasn’t hungry for a good couple hours after. Hope you love it as much as I do!
While you’re reading this post, I will be in Boston. Well, probably flying there. Getting to Boston from Denver takes a bit. I’m kind of nervous. I get lost walking around the block. So going to place I have literally no clue where I am…well, that makes me nervous. I better pack A LOT of deodorant. And I actually had to go shopping for real people clothes. Turns out not all people who film cooking shows wear workout clothes. Weird, I know.
Hey have you ever watched My Drunken Kitchen? If you haven’t, you’re one of the few. Her videos have hit almost 2 million views on YouTube. TWO MILLION. Whoa. But if you’re easily offended…well…I’m not sure why you’re reading MY blog, but you’ll probably be offended by her. She gets drunk and cooks. It’s awesome. She’s pretty damn hilarious! Someday people might think my videos are cool, until then, I will just bore the few that fall unfortunately onto my YouTube station. JOKES ON YOU!

The hardest thing for me with eating Paleo is that I’m deathly allergic to nuts. So many creative recipes use almond milk and butter and cashews, etc…
I’m even slightly allergic to coconut too! I’m screwed but I sometimes need a break from the plain ol’ meats and veggies.
Any substitutions?
do you ever drink raw milk? it’s not paleo but a lot of people still do well with regular raw milk
Never thought about using pumpkin puree in a shake. Nice way to sneak in some veggies 🙂 I will have to try this. I’ve been obsessed with using the canned coconut milk in my protein shakes lately…I know I should be eating eggs for breakfast but I crave shakes like this much more!!! Thanks for sharing.
yeah sometimes we just need a shake instead of the normal breakfast
thanks for the link to my drunken kitchen… hilarious! she ranks up there with you in my book, though my food is definitely better after being inspired by you 😉
lol glad you like her Kelli, she’s great
I made this for breakfast this morning and it is DELICIOUS!!! I subbed coconut milk for the almond milk and almond butter for the cashew butter (only bc that’s all I had on hand)
Glad you liked it Anita!
I only have vanilla protein powder, and am wondering if that would be a weird combination. Did you use a flavored protein?
Thanks!
That would be delicious for sure!
I LOVE pumpkin and anything with cinnamon or nutmeg. Gotta try this soon.
This sounds delicious! I must try it!!
Just made this for dinner – DELICIOUS! Tastes like pumpkin pie in a cup!
I like that it tastes really good without being very sweet–I had to use coconut milk because my almond milk was expired. Worked fantastic.
Just made this tonight for bedtime snack and I have to say I was skeptical, but it turned out great! I even sort of accidentally added about twice as much cinnamon as necessary and it was still good 🙂
