Hiiiiiiiii! No Fashion Fridays for you today. I haven’t had time to wear any real clothes because they are all packed up. I’ve been going through one of the biggest milestones in my life this week. BUYING A HOUSE. I talked about it  a little bit on the blog, but then I pretty much went silent because I was just crying about it every day, instead. The lending process while being self employed left me feeling completely violated. All Brian had to do was hand over his W2 and boom, he was done. They asked for proof of EV.ER.Y.THING with me. Not just employment, but proof of $15 checks from months and months ago. I would have to go to the bank to print off the check (which they would charge me for) then go scan in the checks (which I had to pay for), then I would get a call telling me I missed something and needed to send in at least 100 more pages of proof. While all of this was happening, I was rear ended by a really suck human being, messing my car up pretty bad. So I had to borrow my sister-in-law’s car at first, of course running over a nail 5 minutes within driving it. Then get a rental car. Then pay taxes. I would cry almost every day wondering if buying a house was a mistake and if we would ever be able to afford anything again. But now that we’ve bought the house, the lender’s stopped calling me, I’ve paid my taxes, insurance has taken over my car, and we have a beautiful place to live, I’m finally smiling. Thought that day would never come.

But let’s talk about the house because I love it soooo much! I honestly should be incredibly grateful about getting this house because the Colorado housing market is absolutely insane right now. I guess people want to live in this wonderful state because people are moving here like crazy. And if you want to buy a place, you better have cash and be ready to pay AT LEAST $10,000 over the asking price. Luckily for us, we didn’t have to do either. We were the first offer and we offered asking price and they accepted that same night. And what was even better was the house was under complete construction so we were able to pick all of the kitchen finishes ourselves. The contractor had already picked out the kitchen but said we could pick whatever we wanted and just pay the difference. So I was able to pick out the cabinets, the granite, the appliances, the faucet, the backsplash and the lighting. Everything!

Once we have money again, I plan on decorating and sharing all the details of every room! Maybe you can even help me pick everything out? That would be fun! Now let’s talk some quick details. We bought a ranch style home with a basement. It’s a 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom + a den and an office. A backyard for Jackson and an awesome walk in closet for me! Wood floors at the main floor and carpet in the basement.

The pictures below are just of the living room, dining room and kitchen because well, bedrooms are pretty boring when they have nothing in them. But once I start decorating the bedroom, I cannot wait to share that all with you! Especially the bed I just got, it’s amazing.

Wanna know something funny? OK! After I bought this light fixture for the dining room, I went out to Pittsburgh to work with Bill and Hayley of Primal Palate and noticed they have the exact same fixture in their own dining room! I know, so hilarious.

I had to get a double oven. I just had to! It’s going to make cooking dinner even more enjoyable! Actually, I hate cooking dinner most nights because I’ve been cooking most of the day. So this oven will just make cooking dinner actually enjoyable. Let’s cook stuff!

This granite was our second choice and thankfully, we still love it. It’s called Snow Flake, or something snowy related. And the backsplash snow something. Which was a bit ironic since it’s CRAZY snowing while we are trying to move in. It’s been 70 degrees every day for weeks and now it’s snowing flakes the size of beetles. BEETLES, I tell you.

There is so much light in the kitchen with the giant windows and the light fixtures everywhere. I cannot wait to try to take better food pictures for you. Time to grow up, Juli. Everybody is doing it.

This faucet is one of my favorite parts. We asked the contractor for the biggest sink he could find and that’s not exactly what we got. BUT, the faucet itself is great and has amazing pressure, so it will have to make up for the size of the sink.

Drawersssss!! I’ve always wanted drawers in my kitchen. Storing pots and pans and donut makers and waffle makers. Everything. I love organization. I cannot wait to organize the pantry. I HAVE A PANTRY, YAYYYYY!

I’m so excited to share all of this with you guys! It’s pretty cool to think that when I started this blog in 2011, I was just out of college, coaching CrossFit, living with my parents, then with my best friend, living out of tupperware while working from 4am-10pm and not dating anyone. Four years later, we are planning our wedding (well kind of, we ain’t got time or money for that now!), buying our first house, finishing my third cookbook, and playing daily with the greatest dog in the world. Who now has his own backyard! Who knew.

I just want to thank all of you who have been there from the beginning, who have come back time and time again, who have stuck with me through the ups and downs, who have commented on a recipe, who have tried a recipe, who have laughed at me AND with me, who have shared my site with a friend, who have promoted my site to their clients or their patients or their athletes. Sharing my life with all of you has been a pretty cool experience and you’ll never know how much I appreciate all of you for being such amazing readers, friends and people. So thank you for being you. Because of you, I want to be a better author, a better cook, a better blogger and a better person. And I hope that this new kitchen helps with just that! Now let’s get cooking!

Oh, Hi! I’m Juli.

I’m a food hoarder. And a really bad dancer. If you don’t know me well, you will probably not understand my humor. Therefore, I apologize ahead of time. Thanks for listening to my ramblings of my ever-changing life and trusting my kitchen mishaps. Your trust in me is appreciated.

  1. Isn’t it nice when growing up can actually be fun AND exciting? Lol. Wedding plans are fun, houses are fun, it’s just managing the stress in between 🙂 Love the finishes on your kitchen!!!

  2. Congratulations! It sounds like a terrible ordeal, but it’s all downhill from here (especially in a new home where things will be under warranty)! Enjoy your success! And keep copies of your checks from now on, I guess.

  3. Congratulations Juli! Very exciting times! I wish you both lots of health and happiness within your new home – your smiles and laughs shine through your blog and make us all feel like we are part of this awesome journey with you! 🙂

  4. Juli,
As much as I would love to see how you decorate, as a law enforcement officer I have to advise you to not post many pics of inside your house. In this day and age it is soo easy to find out your address. You don’t have to post this in the comments I just wanted to warn you.

  5. Juli, I am so unbelievably happy for you! I have been reading your blog since 2012 and it’s so wonderful to see how much your life has changed. Thank you for letting us be a part of it. 🙂

Also, I am insanely jealous of your big kitchen! That is going to give off such great lighting for your photos!

  6. That’s awesome that you could immediately tailor the kitchen to what you wanted. Looks like a lovely house. Home-buying is an ordeal but worth it in the end. Congratulations!

  7. oh sister, I hear ya on the pain of home buying. And refinancing (even if it’s to get a better rate and lower your payment) is no picnic either, just FYI for the future. I’m one of those who could totally be content in a condo or apartment, but I will say that owning a house is pretty cool. Your house looks amazing and I can’t wait to see how you decorate it!

  8. Hi Juli, I just started following your blog last year, but I enjoy it so much. Your food is amazing and your stories make me laugh. I am happy for you both.

I am also totally jealous of your kitchen. It looks great.

  9. Congratulations on your house! It is beautiful. I strongly recommend buying a roomba with all that wood. It makes your life so much better! I didn’t realize how much my dirty wood floor from vacuuming weekly was getting to me. Good luck with the decorating!

  10. Congrats! It looks beautiful! I am in the midst of planning a wedding and attempting to find a house to buy, but you aren’t kidding about the Denver market. That is some super luck you had in finding that place!

  11. What a nice house! Yay for you guys and your new adventure! You’ll LOVE being house owners! The freedom to do whatever you want is awesome! I understand your comments about the housing in CO. We lived in Denver area waaaaay back and even then a fixer-upper was $100,000+. That’s why we moved back to IA. We loved CO but the cost of living was ridic. I gotta say you’re my go-to person EVERY day. You make me laugh when I need a good laugh and you give me something new to cook. As I read your last paragraph, I envisioned you on a stage at a podium holding your shiny golden award wearing one of your FANTASTIC outfits. Love your blog and your insight on daily life happenings. Keep it rockin, girl!

  12. I am so excited for you! And so excited that you’re sharing so much awesome stuff on your blog- wedding dress and house photos are THE BEST! Congrats, have fun, and I can’t wait to see house things! Oh- and I live in Golden and my mom is an interior designer… so you know- if you need any help… 🙂 Congrats!! We can’t find a house to save our lives out here…

  13. OMG that house is perfect!!! i’m scouring for something that may be less than perfect….
    … . ……. . . .. . .. …. ..

…AH HA! The sink is a little small looking. harder to wash big cookie sheets in. lol

  14. Okay, read your comment about wanting the biggest sink your contractor could find, then scrolled and saw the picture and laughed my ass off. Your house is beautiful, love your taste! I came to your blog after my mom made a chili recipe of yours and have been reading ever since! I make a recipe of yours a couple times a week! Thank you for your hilarious, honest, true-to-self blog

  15. Juli, love the blog, can I ask what neighborhood you bought in? I have been going through this process in platt park area, and I keep getting in crazy bidding wars (in some cases 30k over asking) and I haven’t won any of these wars yet.

  16. I’m so happy for you. Congrats on a beautiful house. Very exciting times for you. That’s why life is so amazing. You never know what’s around the corner. I’ll see you next week at Paleo FX. I’m a volunteer for the event.

  17. OMG..I have the same cabinets for my lower cabinets and then white on the uppers. I decided on a white with grey speckled quartz for my counter tops. My house will be done in a few weeks to move into. I’m so jealous that you get to move into your beautiful home. I’m so incredibly happy for you and your success. You truly deserve it! 🙂

  18. Juli,

Congratulations!!!! There is nothing better than waking up that first morning in YOUR VERY OWN HOUSE! I will never forget that day for the rest of my life – looking out into my own backyard. I don’t even mind making the mortgage payment because I know I’m working towards a day where there will BE NO mortgage payment. Ah-mazing. So, again, congrats.

I am fairly new to this blog, but I LOVE IT! Thank you. You have such an amazing personality – I wish you lived closer so we could be friends. 😉 I only have your first cookbook right now, but can’t wait to get the other two because ALL of the recipes I’ve made out of your first one have been amazing and everyone who tries them with me loves them. You are the bomb! For realz.

Have an awesome Friday and a great weekend! You deserve all of the positivity you are feeling right now.

    <3 Erika

  19. Wow, congratulations. It looks like a great pad and I’m sure you guys are going to be wildly happy there. The best is when you get to choose your own fixtures and put your own touches on a house. It makes it a home. And lucky you for getting to do it right out of the gates! Congrats on all your successes and hard work. It’s clearly been earned!

  20. Congratulations! We just bought our first home two weeks ago and it’s so much fun! We were also our seller’s first offer, offered list price, and got an acceptance within 45 minutes. I wish house buying was like buying other things. I hate haggling and negotiating. Tell me how much something costs and I’ll but it 🙂

  21. Congrats Juli! I’m super, genuinely happy for you. Remember when you wrote about having to buy health insurance and how much being a grown up sucks? This kind of stuff is the good stuff… the wedding, the house, Jackson… those are the good grown-up things. So happy for you. 🙂

  22. Juli,

I just wanted to say congratulations on everything! I have read your blog and used your recipes from the very beginning and always have enjoyed it. It sounds lame and creepy, but I feel like I know you, even though I’ve never met you. You have really grown in the last four years and it is obvious you are so happy! I wish you all the best!

  23. You can feel the feels in that last paragraph.. Congrats! Your kitchen is beautiful and the light fixtures rock!.. happy decorating!

  24. Congrats, prepare to never buy clothing again- every purchase will be home-related, ha! Btw- are those the Abstrakt high-gloss cabinets from Ikea? I have the exact same ones…love!

  25. Congratulations!!! I love the pictures. You will have a fabulous time cooking up a storm in your new kitchen. I love all of the windows. Post more pictures as you move in.

  26. Beautiful, congrats!! I started my home buying process (first time buyer also) May of last year and finally was able to move in September. I only had about 37 or 38 panic attacks during the lending process. It is the absolute worst, most violating time and same as you, I wondered if all of it was even worth it. BUT IT IS, isn’t it?

  27. Congratulations!!! Your home is gorgeous, I am so jealous!! I have been reading your blog since 2012 and it has definitely been interesting to watch you transcend through various phases of your life. I am so happy for you!!! Thank you for all that you do for your readers. I recommend your blog to so many of my patients.

  28. I have to admit I got a bit emotional reading that! Having read your blog for years, I feel like you are one of my friends who lives in a different country. Anyway, you are my favourite blogger and I always go to your books and site for inspiration. Good luck to you, Brian and Jackson in your new home- it looks amazing!!
    Lots of love from Dubai

  29. Love the feel of the kitchen….it is so open and the windows are amazing. Only thing is I’m afraid that sink is going to dry you crazy! Way too small for someone who cooks as much as you. You need one of those HUGE ones that you can bathe an elephant in!!!

  30. Holy moly that is gorgeous. I’m moving to Denver so we can be besties and workout, cook, eat and plan our destination weddings together 😉

  31. A belated congrats on the new house!

I wanted to commiserate with you about being self-employed and buying a house. My husband is a 1099 and we spent, and I am not exaggerating, 5 full months tracking down documents just for a REFINANCE. They wanted snapshots of credit card balances, then when we paid the balance down they wanted proof that we didn’t cash out our 401k’s to do it. Repeat. If they had requested proof of the checking account I opened in the second grade, I seriously would not have been surprised.

I hope you have put that frustrating process behind you and can ENJOY YOUR NEW HOUSE!!! HOORAY!!! =)

  32. Congratulations Juli! I work in a tile showroom doing sales and design so I was looking forward to see what you picked for your backsplash and everything. It looks beautiful! What paint color is on all the walls? Thanks for your wonderful blog and recipes!

  33. Congratulations! Your new home is beautiful and I just know you will LOVE the double ovens! (I LOVE LOVE LOVE mine…game changer, I tell you) Many blessings on your new home and for the exciting times ahead!

  34. Love the kitchen, looks super contemporary, totally my style. Soooo happy for you. By the way, having your grilled mustard sliders on top of zucchini fritter cups for dinner tonight…will be thinking of you and your new house when we eat 😉

  35. I can’t wait to see all the yummy foods that will come out of this beautiful kitchen!!!!! The lighting is just perfect 🙂

  36. Congrats on the new home!! It’s beautiful! And I hear ya on the home buying process.. Me and my husband bought our 2nd home together almost 2 years ago and we made a pact to never move again haha. House buying equals crazy stress, but it’s so worth it in the end! Glad everything worked out for you guys and enjoy that beautiful new kitchen =)

  37. When I first started reading your blog I was living at my parents, working long hours, obsessed with CrossFit and not dating anyone. Four years later I am planning my wedding, just bought a new home, and starting a new career. I love reading your blog and following your life because it is so similar to mine and my journey! Thanks for all you do! : )

  38. Julie,

You were never just “good!” I think phenomenal is more like it. Now you are Julie Supercharged! Can’t wait to see what is in store for us this upcoming year. Congrats to you on all your accomplishments! Keep rocking it out!

  39. CONGRATS!!! I’ve been reading your blog for a few years now…..LOVE EVERYTHING you write about and cook! It’s so exciting to see you evolve over the years…you honestly deserve the best! Please keep up the amazing work you do….and your humor rocks! Love the dining room fixture….please share where you bought. Would go fantastic in our dining room…..looking for a new fixture.

  40. Congrats! It’s beautiful! Love that faucet and light fixture. What kind of faucet is that? We are moving into a house soon and that one looks perfect.

      1. Cool thanks much! I didn’t realize ikea had those. Do you like it so far? Is that light fixture in the dining room also Ikea?

  41. I came across this post and absolutely love your kitchen! Any idea what your flooring is (brand, etc.)? My husband and I are first-time homebuyers of a new build and we are looking for flooring – totally striking out so far but your wall colors and cabinets are nearly identical to ours so your floor would be a great option!
