Last week on the blog, I talked about changing up your workout routine with the help of Nike and their Nike 30-Day Training Challenge! Their challenge syncs up to your phone and calendar and once you download the app, you can get a collection of workouts that can help you begin your workout regimen or just help you achieve even better results! That way you can try out one of the amazing Nike Free shoes for the 30 days that you complete the training challenge and truly decide if you love the shoes or not! Nike allows customers to return their Nike Free shoes within 30 days of purchase for a full refund!

Sooooo did you try it? The workouts or the shoes? Free workouts and 30 days to try out shoes is pretty amazing, especially if maybe you aren’t feeling super motivated lately…which can happen when laying poolside 24/7 is calling our name instead of the gym.

Getting Motivated with Nike + PaleOMG After a Long Holiday Weekend

After holidays, I always feel a bit sluggish and slow. Even after this past July 4th holiday weekend when I didn’t eat too bad and kept my drinking under control, I still felt slow and had a tough time for the first couple days back in the gym. But that’s what happens during the summer months: we constantly have things to do to pull us away from the gym and what keeps us thriving. So we are constantly having to remind ourselves that our health really IS important, even in the summertime!

If you’re having a hard time getting motivated or getting back on track, you’re not alone!! We all feel that way at some point, it’s just not always talked about. People don’t like to admit that kind of stuff. But I’m here to say that’s normal and all you can really do about it is find something that gets you excited to get moving again. Which is why the Nike 30-Day Training Challenge is so helpful because it gives you insight into workouts you may have never thought about trying or even heard of such as barre, vinyasa, strength & balance, and core workouts that challenge your core as well as your mind!

As I’ve said before, feeling your best in your workout attire can also help with staying motivated in the gym. I know it works for me! So I often search all over the place for high waisted leggings that don’t fall down while I run, jump or do double unders. I recently tried out these Sculpt Capris that are great for summer if you’re like me and don’t enjoy wearing shorts while working out. They cut a little high in the length so they’re still breathable while you workout.

Nike has all sorts of sports bras ranging from low impact to high impact support. Last week I showed you a high impact sports bra that was perfect for running the stairs at Red Rocks. This Nike Pro Indy sports bra is definitely for more low impact sports and activities like a leisurely jog, a barre class, spin, or even pilates! It keeps everything in place and is adjustable (I even wear it in CrossFit) but it’s not as supportive for the bigger chested ladies out there!

And if you haven’t checked out these Nike Free Transform shoes yet, you HAVE to see the other colors they have available because they are all so bright and fun! I’ve loved flyknits for a while now and these have the same woven material that fit like a sock so you don’t even need to wear socks if you don’t want to! They fit so snug and move with your foot with every step! Flyknits are the best!

So if you’re looking for a reason to get motivated this summer, I’m giving you two different ways right now: trying out a new pair of shoes for 30 days to keep you looking fresh and feeling your best (and to help you really decide what shoe is best for you) and by joining Nike’s 30-Day Training Challenge to see a simple reminder every day on your phone about what workout you should be doing. Who doesn’t need a little accountability sometimes!? So get motivated, get moving and get to feeling like your best self this summer all with a little help from Nike! Let’s do this!

Juli — looking like a babe as usual! One fitness question for you: do you find yourself ever “plateauing” with CrossFit workouts? For example, I do a HIIT/circuit-interval training-style workout ~5x/week, and I find I’ve gotten to a point where the movements seem very automatized and I’m not sure if I need to challenge my body differently (since my body responds very well to this type of training). Since you don’t lift super heavy anymore, do you just stick with the same weights? How do you keep seeing progress, and what sort of physical goals do you set for yourself since you’re more or less at your ideal weight?

Thanks for your perspective and, as usual, for keeping it REAL!! xo

hey francesca! for me, sometimes i go heavier in weights and sometimes i go lighter. recently i’ve been trying to mix it up with some barre or other classes then go back to crossfit to lighter weights and then heavier later. with crossfit, i think it’s pretty easy to see progress even if you aren’t going heavy just because you’re constantly doing different things. but i would just recommend mixing it up or going heavier in your weights for a while and see if you see a difference!

Thank you so much for sharing this. I always feel like the fattest kid after a vacation and have ZERO desire to work out and eat healthy again once I get back home. It’s such a mind fuck, all I can think about is wanting to continue eating Starbucks muffins for breakfast. I’m sometimes tempted to drive out and buy junk to eat again because I’m so used to having shit loads of sugar and go crazy for it. Does this happen to you? How do I stop it??Ahhhh. Thanks, love your posts – you’re awesome!

    1. juli says:

for me, i very very rarely ever eat anything that’s not gluten free, which keeps me away from a lot of treats when i’m on vacation or traveling. but when i get some sort of addiction to sugar, i just cut myself off cold turkey. so when you want to muffin, don’t get it. eat something else with protein or fat in it to make yourself full and help you forget about the sugar craving. hope that helps!

LOVVEEEE the leggings, and your gym look of the high waist and cute sports bra, I haven’t been confident enough to wear it yet but I’ve just purchased these! I live in the UK and managed to find them on sale, and a much much better price than the lululemon high times for a student like me! Thank youuuuu

  4. juli says:

nope, anyone can do the workouts with or without the shoes!

  5. Kelsey says:

You look awesome! I recently stopped doing competitive CrossFit and am trying to lean out before my wedding in October. Any recommendations?

    1. juli says:

I talk about leaning out and losing weight in both of these posts:
      https://paleomg.com/weekly-workouts-before-and-after-photos/
      https://paleomg.com/top-ways-to-lose-weight-maintain-balance-w-michaela-north/
For me, it took over 3 years to lean out. Everyone’s body is different so I can’t say exactly what you should do since I’ve never met you in person and don’t know your lifestyle, but going less heavy and eating super clean always helps with leaning out for me!

  6. Katherine says:

Hey Juli! Which nike shoes do you do crossfit in?

    1. juli says:

honestly, all of them. i have probably 6-7 pairs of nikes and wear all of them at some point. just whatever match my outfit that day lol
