Man, travel f*cks you up. I have been traveling a good amount the past month and still have two more trips planned and my body is screwed up. I’m barely sleeping, I’m stressing out more about the little things, and I feel like I’m constantly worried about work. All I need a week straight of good sleep, but that just isn’t happening. I’ve been taking magnesium before bed and have also tried melatonin and I even reduced my coffee intake, which wasn’t much to begin with, but nothing works. I tried turning my screens to whatever that color is that helps with eyes and tried cutting out electronics all together and just read instead, and I still can’t turn off my brain. It’s driving me insane.
How do people function when they have children and lack of sleep?!?
Traveling last week was really awesome though. I went to Phoenix then to Kansas City then back to Denver for 3 book tour stops. All the events had amazing turn outs and flew by. I wish we would have had more times to take questions and talk to more people, but 2 hours goes really damn fast when you have 3 extremely talkative females all trying to tell their story while talking about their books at the same time. So apologies to anyone that didn’t have a question answered or didn’t get to chat very long, those events go by so fast! If by chance you didn’t get to ask a question, feel free to leave it here and I’ll answer any questions you may have!
On a completely unrelated note, I finally decided that I need an office. Which is so weird I don’t already have one at the moment since I’ve been working from home for probably 4 years now. But my sister in law has been living with us for a little while and I wanted to keep the other spare bedroom open for guests, but I just can’t any longer. Working from the couch or the kitchen table just isn’t cutting it. It feels like I have no space between my work life and home life. And my back has started to kill me from squishing into the couch all day long. So I’m clearing out the other guest bed (sorry guests, find a hotel) and going to start creating my own office space. I need a room that I can use for food photos, to store important documents, to store all my photography and food photo equipment, and to use as an extra room for upcoming fashion posts and even video tutorials. That way I can give my husband some room back in our closet.
So now I’m just looking for office decor inspiration. It’s a small bedroom, but I think it will be a great size for an office. I’ve just been looking on pinterest for inspiration, but is there any where you looked for inspiration for your own home? I can’t wait to show you guys what I do with the space!
Hatch Chile & Chorizo Chilaquiles
- Yield: 3-4 1x
Ingredients
- 1 package Siete Tortillas (I used the almond flour ones), cut into fourths
- coconut oil spray
- couple pinches of himalayan sea salt
For the hatch green chile
- 4 hatch chiles, roasted, skin removed, seeds removed*
- 1 jalapeño, roasted, seeds removed*
- 1/4 white onion, roughly chopped
- 2 garlic cloves
- 1/2 cup cilantro
- 1/2 lime, juiced
- 1 tablespoon honey
- pinch of himalayan sea salt
For the other toppings
- 1 pound ground chorizo
- Tessemae’s Creamy Ranch Dressing
- 3 fresno peppers, sliced
- green onions, sliced
- cilantro, minced
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place tortilla triangles on a baking sheet and spray with just a little bit of coconut oil spray then sprinkle with salt. Place in oven to bake for about 7 minutes, until slightly browned and crispy.
- In a high speed blender, blend all the ingredients for the hatch green chile until smooth.
- Cook chorizo in a medium saute pan over medium heat, breaking into small pieces, cooking until no pink remains.
- Arrange chips on a plate, top with hatch green chile, chorizo, ranch dressing, fresno peppers, green onions, and cilantro. (I’m limiting my egg intake, so I didn’t top these with eggs, but I recommend it if you tolerate eggs. It would be perfect on top!)
Notes
*If peppers aren’t already roasted, just place them over an open flame on the stove top and cook until blacked on all sides. Once cool to touch, rinse underneath water to remove the skin and the seeds inside.

Try magnesium oil or lotion- Whole Foods/health food type places should have it. I got mine on Amazon. And Epsom salt soaks (20 minutes at least) in the tub- also detoxifying. Apparently, our bodies don’t absorb magnesium properly orally. And maybe up your B vitamins. Good luck!
Ohhhh, these look too good. I constantly crave nachos and this would totally fit the bill! I notice when I am having a super hard time I can chalk it up to lack of sleep (I have a 4 year old and an 11 month old). I also get strangely emotional as well, which makes everything even worse. Whenever I can’t sleep I reach for a book (not on my phone) and as awake as I may be, reading in bed puts me to sleep every time.
Check out houzz.com for anything design related. I spend hours on there just looking at the pictures and day dreaming of my dream home 🙂
I really like “Night Rest” by Source Naturals when Im having trouble sleeping. Usually 1/2 tablet knocks me out with no groggy feeling the next morning. Most Whole Foods stores carry them and they just work great when Im in those phases like you are now, when sleep isn’t the best.
You MUST make a home office for yourself. I work from home three days a week and it is critical to have a separate space so that you can differentiate between home time and work time. And yes, I think your back and neck will thank you for having a real desk/table and chair. At home I have my laptop connected to a big monitor that way I am not crunched over a small screen all day.
Can’t wait for the post on your office decor!
is your 3rd bedroom big enough to get one of those great murphy beds that the wall part is a desk with cabinets and when you fold down the bed the desk just shifts under the bed.
when i can’t sleep i use do terra past tense on the back of my neck. helps me sleep and helps with my migraines.
I really like looking at Wayfair. They have awesome sales and some of their photos are awesome. Pottery Barn is always beautiful, but always out of my budget. And good luck with the sleeping. When my mind is racing I try and remember my thought path backwards. When I stop remembering how my brain travelled to the last thought, I know I’m falling asleep. Good luck! I’m also really weird and bring my own pillow with me everywhere. I can’t sleep without it.
Yes!! I work from home and am trying to furnish my home office now too – it’s a spare bedroom that is also our sports gear storage since we live in an apartment, so I’m trying to find ways to make it seem less like a giant closet and more like somewhere that I want to work. I can’t wait to see what you find, and will definitely be checking the comments for ideas as well!
What is happening?!? where is your instagram feed??? Instagram says page no longer exists and you are not listed in my ‘following’ list.
I was hit with insomnia last year out of nowhere (without a child too!) and have come a loooong way with the battle. I feel I need to share my wealth knowledge with you lol. Try more magnesium and/or the magnesium drink (in a powder form) called Natural Calm. Be careful playing around with melatonin…that shizz can cause tricky adverse reactions regarding sleep…I learned all about this and how a specific amount is needed which varies greatly person to person…take this under the supervision of your naturopath only in my opinion (and see a naturopath if your sleeping issues persist). I have an amaze supplement called Brain Calm that changed my LIFE regarding sleep. And honestly, as much as you don’t want it to be…it’s your stress and not being able to shut off your brain. Try meditation before bed, keep up with no coffee (I do a green tea in the am only), reading a book at night, and doing your very best not to THINK about your lack of sleep during the day/at night. You got this, Juli!
