New podcast idea – it’s called Moral of the Story. Whenever I learn a life lesson, I’ll be sharing it here through a MOTS episodes. Today’s moral of the story is: don’t get bamboozled by a timeshare. Sharing my recent experience at Diamante in hopes you don’t make the same mistake I did.

Omg. My poor parents got hooked into a time share 30+ years ago IN MYRTLE BEACH and they kept buying another week and another week until they’ve easily spent 80k in yearly fees and maintenance and it ate o to their retirement. All this was with the idea that they’d be able use these weeks could be used in other states, resorts. Please be careful because I think they are very bamboozly. And cover your ass big time if you pull out so you don’t get hit with a major loss. We are here for your bitch session. I have stories a mile long. My parents ended up selling all of their shares for one dollar each. ?

We are going to get a couple trips in then i told my husband i’m already ready to sell it. it’s so funny because my husband was in sales for 15 years and they totally got him! it makes sense for him because the golf courses are so “cheap” when you’re a member (even though you pay for it upfront) but nothing else is great about it. i pretty much hate it. can’t wait to be out of it.

  2. Bethany says:

Oh, Juli 🙁 I’m so sorry this happened to you and your hubby. What a shitty bait-and-switch they pulled. You have every right to be angry and disappointed. Who wouldn’t be pissed off in your situation?!? Ugh. They SUCK!! I’m so mad for you guys…I think of you like a friend and I’m mad that they did this to you!

I felt so bad hearing how excited you were to go to Flora Farms (considering what happened afterward)…I just wanted to reach through my headphones and say, NO, JULI, DON’T GO!!! STAY IN AND DRINK YOUR $17 BOTTLE OF WATER INSTEAD!! You have my sympathies, my friend. And bring some of your own yummy snacks next time you ride in the golf cart and scoff at their lame-ass candy!

    1. Kim says:

So sorry you got bamboozled. I hope everything works out. I like the Moral of the Story idea!

  3. Karen Ann says:

Love these random podcast episodes where you share your life. So sorry this happened to you guys. I think MOTS episodes become a regular thing!

    1. juli says:

  4. Jane Parry says:

Hi Juli. It is really easy to get sucked into timeshares. They dazzle you with sunshine and possibilities and keep you talking until you convince yourself you need it more than anything else in the whole world and you don’t even care about the money while you are there signing away. We had one through a company which eventually became Diamond Resorts International. The maintenance fees did not justify the quality of the resorts and there was never any availability when we were available. We lost the money getting out of it (you can get out of them for sure) but it was worth it never to hear from them again. It will sort, don’t beat yourselves up. There should be timeshare forums online where you can find other people in the same position. Jane XXX

    1. juli says:

there really should be! i CANNOT WAIT to get out of it someday. still just feel so upset with myself for saying yes to it. the gut said no but i didn’t listen and now i have to pay for it. such a bummer.

      1. Jane Parry says:

Juli, they are very clever, they take advantage, they know we all crave paradise from our day to day lives. We totally know who you guys feel. Do not be hard on yourselves. One day you will sort it.

        1. juli says:

awwwww thanks Jane. Still feel stupid AF.

    2. Terri Carmichael says:

Hi Juli & Jane! we got sucked in years ago and would love to get out of it. But there seems to be no market for buying used timeshares. Any tips on how to get rid of it? hire a lawyer? we don’t care if we have to give it away, we just want out. Thanks in advance! Terri Carmichael

      1. juli says:

i’ll definitely share info if i ever find out! we are hoping to be able to sell it!

  5. Liz says:

When this debacle is over, if you don’t blacklist Cabo, check out grand fiesta americana los cabos. I just returned from a trip there and it was amazing – beautiful rooms with ocean views, beautiful pools and beachside chairs and cabanas, AMAZING service, decent gym, and you can walk everywhere in just a couple minutes. They have an all-inclusive option as well that makes the entire trip stress-free. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

    1. juli says:

that sounds amazing right now! definitely not blacklisting Cabo. i love it there!

  6. Robin says:

Hi Juli going to Cabo on Saturday and just realized our concierge made a reservation at El Farallon for Sunday night…I was so excited to see it was at the resort you stayed at! Was the meal all that or would you recommend someplace else. We are also eating at Acre and Sunset Monalisa. I just listened to this podcast so hopefully this doesn’t open old wounds! Sorry you had a bad experience with the timeshare, we have ours with Westin and until we upgraded in May we had nothing but good things to say about it…now we are over it, should NEVER have upgraded…grrr.

  7. Natalie says:

This episode cracked me up. I’m sorry you
had a bad experience but shit it was funny. Thank you for sharing your real, imperfect life. Also thank you for doing your good deed and saving others from this horse shit.

    1. juli says:
