Everyone has a bit of a different quarantine routine these days. Some people are experiencing working from home for the first time, barely brushing their hair most days, and loving every second of living their best lives from the couch. And others are going full glam because it feels like the only thing they can control during these uncertain times. I would say that I fit right in the middle. I’m not going full glam, but I’m sure as hell waking up every morning and putting a full face of makeup on. I’ve done that for years now and the quarantine hasn’t changed that. I would love to be that person who feels my sexiest and most attractive without any makeup on, but that would be a bold-faced lie. And I sure AF am not going to lie about makeup. If I’m going to lie about anything, it’s going to be about the weird sh*t that goes on in my head on a daily basis. Like who killed Jonbenet Ramsey and if Charles Manson really was part of MK Ultra.
Every single day during quarantine, I’ve put on a full face of makeup, glued on my lashes, and curled my hair. And that’s because it makes me feel my best during a pretty emotionally draining time. If I feel my best as soon as I wake up, I can put my mind towards more productive things. And that’s what this quarantine has bee all about for me – being as productive as possible and working my ass off. And makeup just helps me feel productive. I don’t know what it is, but it’s true! So today I thought I would walk you through just a couple of my makeup must-haves in case you’re on the hunt for some good makeup, but don’t know where to look since we can’t go into stores these days.
Let’s first kick things off with a makeup primer! If you ever feel like your face looks like it’s melting throughout the day, especially as the hot summer months begin, you need to use a makeup primer first and foremost. And this Tula Smoothing Primer Gel is prepped and ready to be your best friend! This primer smoothes out your skin and grips to your makeup to keep it in place throughout the day. It helps your makeup look smoother throughout and you won’t get that makeup melting effect as the day wears on. I absolutely love this primer and use it every single day! And just FYI – you can use code PALEOMG for 15% off your Tula order to save a couple extra bucks!
Now I have two products I can’t get enough of – first up is the Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Foundation. If you want amazing coverage that lasts throughout the day without creating shine and excess oil, this foundation is where it’s at. I’m OBSESSED with it. My acne has been a real b*tch during quarantine (still trying to figure out what sparked it) so I’ve wanted more coverage than my normal tinted moisturizer, and this foundation covers everything! It gives a really airbrushed effect without feeling heavy or like it’s going to rub off on someone’s shirt when you hug them…not that we huge people anymore. Sigh. It’s one of the best foundations I’ve ever worn and I don’t even mind wearing it while I’m working out. It’s just awesome, flat out!
Now if you’re blessed and don’t have to worry about covering up blemishes, I highly recommend the NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer. Unlike some tinted moisturizers on the market, this one gives great coverage and covers up any dark spots or redness. It’s super hydrating and oil-free, I just find that I want more coverage and a little less shine lately which is why I’m using the Full Coverage Foundation more. But this tinted moisturizer is fantastic and I’d highly recommend it!
And one last coverage product I want to recommend is the Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer. I use this concealer under my eyes and on any blemishes, and it quickly covers up any dark circles or red spots. This concealer goes on really smooth, it doesn’t crease much, and it keeps it’s coverage throughout the day. It pairs perfectly with the Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Foundation if you want all around amazing coverage. The only place I see it crease at all is under my eyes and it’s very slight. But I still have found a product that doesn’t crease in the spot. I’m 32 at this point and some creases are inevitable. This concealer will brighten any dark under eyes and I’m all about that!
Speaking of eyes, there are two must-haves that I continue to go back to time and time again, even after trying different products. The Urban Decay Naked3 Palette is 100% my favorite palette of all time. I think the colors just work with my skin tone best, so even though I have many of Naked palettes, I always go back to this one. And luckily it has lasted me years! This palette has dusty pinks and rose hues that have a really subtle and natural looks while enhancing the eyes. I just love this palette so much! And after I apply the palette, I always put lashes on top. Lately I’ve been wearing the KISS Pompadour Lashes the most. They are dramatic without looking too drag queen-ish. And believe me, I love a good pair of drag queen lashes, but sometimes they make me look like an idiot. The Pompadour Lashes have more of a natural feel to them that just make the eyes pop more than normal lashes or glue-on lashes.
Hopefully this post helps you find some makeup that will help you feel your best during quarantine while you still can’t shop in stores. I know this makeup has made me feel just a bit more confident during this rough time and that makes all the difference in my day-to-day!

Thanks Juli! I always love your makeup and skincare recommendations!!
thanks for the love Annette!
Love LOVE your recipes! You have SUCH talent for making dishes BETTER than their grain & dairy filled cousins!
SUGGESTION: would love (and visit) even more if you had a pork-free filter/tab.
Since turning 41, my body no longer can handle grains, dairy… and pork. Like so many other of your readers, I feel like I have mono and have been body slammed the day after eating those items. Paleo has been an answer to prayers (and your website and cookbook have been life-savers… but so many paleo recipes are bacon/pork dependent. I’m learning to substitute with duck fat, but just wanted to share this suggestion.
Love your books and site!
You are sooooo talented!!!!
thanks!!!!
thanks for your feedback Peggy!
forgive me if you’ve shared this elsewhere… but how do you apply your foundation? Brush? Fingers? I actually ordered this Tarte foundation a few days before you did and have only worn it once. I work outside so my quarantine style is sunblock… makeup is on the back burner until I can hug people again 😉 Thanks!
i use a beauty blender!! https://rstyle.me/+KdT5iDW-ivjOW2P2rAvjeA
Hey, Juli. I’m new to false lashes and trying them out during quarantine because why not, right? What adhesive do you recommend for a gal going to work, to workouts, to yard work, all in a day?
this is my favorite lash glue – https://rstyle.me/+dQFL7D8hbjSfvrVV7qb0CA
Hi Julie! Do you have any advice on how to put on your lashes or how you pick a good pair? Maybe it’s because my eyes are very small, but I feel like a drag queen no matter what brand I’ve tried. I also feel like I must wear eyeliner to with lashes.
Do you wear makeup when you work out? I’m always worried it will all come off when I wipe the sweat off my face and I’ll look like a zebra 🙂
thanks for the fun blogs and amazing recipes!
Kristin
i have a helpful post about applying lashes here – https://paleomg.com/elevate-your-eyes-in-two-simple-steps/
If you have smaller eyes, you can always cut them to fit your eyes. Or you can buy the individual lashes to build the best look for your own eyes!! it has taken me quite a lot of trial and error to find the best lashes for my face so just continue trying different lashes until you find the right look! and i normally wear makeup when i work out, but i don’t have insanely sweaty workouts these days because i’m mostly lifting vs doing cardio
