You know what I hate? Well, it seems like a lot of things by sound of my posts at times, but that’s not totally true. I do hate one thing for sure, though. Expensive purses. Yep, I hate them. Sh*t like Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Gucci, or any of those brand names that I absolutely have no idea how to spell…yeah, I hate them. I’ve never been a brand name person. Maybe it’s because I can’t afford that kind of crap OR MAYBE it’s because I have a brain and I use it. What’s the point of an expensive purse? Most of the time, when you take it to a restaurant or bar, you end up having to put it on the floor since the table isn’t big enough. Do you know what’s been on the floor of that bar? I do. I’ve had friends that have peed on the floor while standing at the bar. Legit peed. Then I’ve had friends that have puked into their hands and threw it on the floor. This conversation isn’t about my selection in friends, so we’re moving past that. You’re telling me that paying over $500 for a purse (well, really over $30) makes sense when you may be drenching it in pee? That’s effing stupid.
And not only do our purses get dirty on the outside, but on the inside…oh dear lord. Well actually, most women probably don’t make quite as much of a mess as me, but I utilize my purse as a wod bag. While most women carry there make up, sunglasses, and Blackberry, I carry my PurePharma fish oil, my AgainFaster rope, my protein powder, shaker bottle, multiple headbands, 4 forks, usually some kind of container of meat, and Artisana coconut butter packets. Real lady like. Ok ok, I do have a wallet as well as a cherry chapstick in there, but that’s really to just make people think I have a least a few feminine qualities. It didn’t fool Jake when he looked in there at the gym, though. The guys I wod with can’t be fooled. They know I’m a dude.
So what do I do to thank them for appreciation my masculinity?! Make them chili. That’s a given, don’t you think? And chili with bacon in it just makes even more sense. It’s so weird chili has a name. All it really is is a bunch of crap all cooked up a big pot. Or saucepan like me. I don’t have a pot. Stupid.

Smoky Bacon Chili
- Yield: 4-5 1x
Ingredients
- 2–3 sweet potatoes (optional)
- 6 slices of bacon, cubed
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1 yellow onion, diced
- 1 red pepper, diced
- 1 green pepper, diced
- 1lb ground beef

- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 (14) ounce can of fire roasted tomatoes
- 1 (8) ounce can of tomato sauce
- salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
This really ain’t that hard people. Check this out. I served my chili over sweet potatoes because I think I’m cool like that. So do it.
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Poke holes in your sweet potatoes with a fork. Place on rack in oven and cook for about 30 minutes or until potato is soft and cooked through.
- Now pull out a large pot, add the cubed bacon and let cook down.
- While the bacon is cooking, chop all the veggies.
- When the bacon has browned and is a bit crisp, add garlic clove and veggies.
- Let cook for about 6 or so minutes, then add your ground beef and all the spices.
- Once the beef is browned, add your tomato sauce and fire roasted tomatoes.
- Mix well and let all the flavors meld together while cooking on low for the next 8 minutes or so, stirring occasionally.
- Then split open your sweet potato, pour your chili over it, and eat. Delicious

Hey Juli! I’m excited to try out your recipe! I’m actually going to bring it into work for a Chili Cook-off contest. Wish me luck!!!
I was wondering if you found that it was better the second day? Also, have you ever made it in a crockpot? I’m wondering if I should just keep it in a crockpot to keep it warm during the lunch hour?
Please let me know your thoughts 🙂 Thanks so much!
I definitely think it’s even better the second day! But I haven’t made it in the crockpot! I’m sure you could, you might just have to cook the bacon on it’s own, pour in a bit of the bacon fat and leave the chopped bacon to throw in later after it is all cooked 🙂
You rock, Juli! Thanks for your response! I made a double batch and it’s so awesome. I’m excited to expose some paleo goodness to coworkers 🙂 Thanks again!
Juli! You can now say you have an award winning chili recipe! I won first place at the chili cookoff with your fabulous recipe! Thank you, girl!
I’m about to make this for the 4th time, I try my best to eat Paleo as much as possible but its tough because my husband is anti-paleo. This is one thing we BOTH agree on! (well, he wraps it in a tortilla with cheese…) but making it at the beginning of the week works out great. Thank you!!
Loved it. We made our extra spicy. U gotta sweat when you’re eating chili!
Omg this is soo good. I put up at my boxes face book page so everyone can stuff there faces with this amazing chili. Thank you for it. Oh my boys call it mans chili.
So it got a little cooler here in TN and I was looking for a good chili recipe to use up some of the 30 pounds of grass fed ground beef I have in my freezer. I usually look at this site first, and I was not disappointed. I will admit, I did not stick to your spice amounts, but I think that is your point. Play with it and get it the way you want it. This recipe is amazingly delicious. Thanks for all you do on here. Your recipes are delicious and I enjoy your writing alot.
Made it tonight! YUM! Last min I added red pepper flakes to spice it up a bit more! Whole family enjoyed it even my 12, 4 and 2 year old! xoxo
Paleomg…with an emphasis on the OMG. Seriously…just made this chili and it is unbelievable. I served it over spaghetti squash because of my lack of activity..didn’t think I warranted a sweet potato. Was so yum! My husband loved it! Thank you!
I made this for the first time tonight and it came out so YUMMY! Would not change a thing 🙂
This was the best chili I’ve ever had! No sweet potato to add but a habanero made its way into the mix 😉
I make this chili often but change a few of the ingredients and play around the spices a bit. I love INTENSE flavors!!!
Tonight I made the chili again. AND I also roasted up some pie pumpkins (split in half, seeded, placed face/split side down, roast at 350’F for 50-60 mins) … I used the pumpkins as bowls and over-fill them! EPIC! Less carbohydrates than those dang tasty sweet potatoes! 😉
Try it. We’ll be best friends forever 😛
