I don’t know how I feel about St. Patrick’s Day. I think I’m part Irish, but I don’t really know. So I don’t really feel like I have the right to celebrate that day. It’s one of those holidays that seems to just give us another reason to drink without feeling guilty about it. Welp, I don’t really feel bad about drinking in the first place, so I don’t need a holiday to do so. BUT I wasn’t in the mood to drink this weekend after my little run in with gluten a week back. It seems as though my stomach has FINALLY healed itself after a full week of awful stomach aches and nervous feelings while doing box jumps during 13.2. Knowwhatimsayinknowwhatimsayin?! If you don’t, shame. But after staying in on Friday and having dinner with my parents on Saturday to deny the temptation of alcohol, I gave in.

I celebrated my stomach feeling better with a bloody mary on Sunday. That’s my favorite day of the week. Mostly because everyone is so fond of bloody marys that day. So I’m not the weird one who wants one. Like I have been when I’ve ordered a bloody on a Friday night. Which tasted like ketchup. I learned my lesson.

So guess what today brings? A new 21 Day Sugar Detox. It’s time to cut out the sugar, clean out the body, and see if I can shrink my bum just a little. Dominican Republic trip is coming up reaaaaal quick and that means bikinis. And bums out all over the place. And mine is really all over the place. So I’m doing my happy version of CrossFit, running, doing my abs, and cutting out the sugar. I totally feel like I’m in my senior year of college again, right before I went to Cancun. Except I’m way less tan at this point in my life. Tanning beds and I had a close relationship back then. I know, I know. I don’t need the lecture.

Anywho, I’m pumped to do this little sugar detox again. I absolutely loved it the first time. Well, after I got over the fourth day of getting dizzy and almost blacking out while working out. And coaching. And doing the dishes. And sitting on the toilet. That’s always a blast. Turns out, when you’re not eating fruit, you need to pack on the carbs in the amount of a crap ton of veggies. Learned that the hard way….

Who wants to join me in the 21 Day Sugar Detox?? Well, you totally should. I say that for selfish reasons. I need a support system. I already have Laura and my friend Kam doing it. But I need more. I ALWAYS NEED MORE.

PS- sorry these muffins aren’t sugar detox approved. I’ll work on that asap. Obviously.

There’s a new New Girl this week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m officially happy.

I just started my own sugar detox on Friday! Excited you’ll be joining in with me. (I totally read your past posts on sugar detoxing for advice/ideas before I started.)

I am so excited to have found your blog! I’ve been reading for about a month now and have started “Cathartic Baking Thursdays” where I try out one of your “treat” recipes and then leave them with the trainers of my CrossFit gym after my 5:30am class on Fridays. They’re big fans, too. We’re starting a gym-wide paleo challenge today, so I’ll be sharing even more of your recipes with them.

I just started CrossFit back in January and am a little (i.e., a lot) frustrated that I’ve actually put on weight instead of losing it. They’ve said that that’ll go away eventually, but I’d like for “eventually” to be “now.” Did you experience this? And how long did it take you to feel like you were starting to get stronger and better during the wods? I’m attempting the open workouts, but was super frustrated this week when I only got through one round of 13.2 bc it took me 9 of the 10 minutes to get 75# over my head 5 times. Granted, that was my one rep max on Wednesday, but still.

Thanks so much for your posts! Keep them coming!

I have just started crossfit too and have experienced weight gain too (not only muscle) – its frustrating… I do the WOD 5-6 times per week and eat clean 80% of the time – ANY help would be appreciated from all you crossfitters out there!

I started Crossfit in June of 2011 because I had gained weight and running wasn’t taking it off. I gained 5 pounds in the first 3 weeks. Here I am almost 2 years later and I still haven’t lost weight, even though I have done two Paleo Challenges. However, I HAVE lost 7% points of bodyfat! I started at 30.1% and am now down to 23.4%. Would still like to lose weight and more bodyfat, but I feel good about how far I have come. Make sure you write down how much you are lifting so you can see how much stronger you are getting! It took me 6 months just to be able to feel “normal” doing a WOD

I lost weight when I started crossfit, though I honestly didn’t have much to lose to start with. I would say only go 5 days per week tops, add in lots of slow exercise, too, such as hiking or walking your dogs/kids/cats, etc ;). Also, I stayed very strict paleo and low carb for the first 6 months or so. I even counted carbs for a few weeks to see where I was (tried to stay below 50gm/day). See if that helps! I’ve had to change my diet some over the last 3 years as I’ve started lifting heavier (i.e. added some post workout sweet potatoes), but this may be enough to help jump start fat loss!

stop getting on the scale and take photos of yourself in the same sports bra and shorts every couple of months. at 47 years old my scale is staying the same but my muscle mass and lean mass are changing. i promise you will see a huge difference…the scale is a liar 🙂

Do you have sweet potatoes during the detox?

    Hey Juli,

I came across your site when i was searching for paleo ground beef recipes and had no idea I could make so many different kinds of delicious burgers that you have on your site! I’m new to paleo but starting to like it.

Anyways, i also wanted to give you a heads up that your “Ingredients List” and “Link to me” links at the top of your site are broken! They lead to 404 pages.

    Chris

I will join you on the 21 DSD! Beginning today!

I already know this is going to suck….so it’d better be worth it! I’m going to need to load my body with abnormal amounts of leafy greens.
