Ok, so I need to get something straight. I don’t love doing cookbook reviews. I don’t know why. Probably because of my only child syndrome and I just want to talk about myself constantly, instead of others. But I really, REALLY don’t want that to be the case. And I’m working on that on a daily basis. #growingupproblems. But I love other people’s cookbooks. Even if I don’t always talk about it. I love looking at the pictures, I love looking at the little details they put into the book, and I ABSOLUTELY love seeing the recipes people came up with. It’s inspiring. I’ll look at a recipe and be frustrated that I never came up with that idea. Not really frustrated, but mostly in awe. Paleo cooks are becoming more and more creative by the minute and this book is an example of that.

So let’s get into this cookbook. Let’s share some info. Some secrets. And some food porn. I mean, this book is about chocolate. How can you not drool over a picture when it is layered in chocolate, smothered in chocolate, and dripping in chocolate. Doesn’t that just sound naughty? Oh it is. But Kelly from The Spunky Coconut has created The Chocolate Lovers’ Paleo Cookbook which includes 80 gluten free breakfast and dessert recipes that will make you feel not so naughty when enjoying your favorite treats. Like with a chocolate swirl cheese danish cake. Remember when you used to wake up on a Sunday morning and destroy an entire boxed cheese danish? If you’re a real foodie, you know what I’m talking about. I used to take a fork straight to one of those things and go to town. Well, now you can do that with a lot less guilt and stomach aches. Wonderful, just wonderful.

Kelly’s chocolate cookbook includes explanations of how to get started with creating a gluten free safe zone. And what that means in my brain is that she tells you exactly what you will need in your kitchen and pantry to make cooking easy and straight forward. And who doesn’t like someone telling them exactly what they will need. I mean, why the hell else would you buy a cookbook?!

Every recipe also includes a gorgeous picture and a little tid-bit of what inspired this recipe or what the recipe is like. Like her chocolate stuffed french toast. Yes. You heard right. Well, she talks about a cafe that her mom and her used to go to get stuffed french toast. How cute is that? I don’t remember cool things like that, I mostly just remember the plastic tasting donuts from 7 Eleven that I bought with my hard earned $0.35. Not as romantic. Or she talks about seeing a brownie on a magazine cover and trying to create her own paleo version.

This cookbook is flat out an amazing treat cookbook. It talks about the history of cacao and how different versions of chocolate are healthier options. It is a cookbook that will absolutely talk your family members or friends into eating paleo. Dessert was the one thing that made me feel like I could actually eat paleo for the rest of my life. And this cookbook gives that same excitement for those who have allergies to gluten, and snickers bars, and whoopie pies, and ice cream. Oh and cheesecake.

Be sure to check out The Chocolate Lovers’ Paleo Cookbook which is available October 1st or preorder it now!! You will absolutely not regret having this beautiful cookbook in your collection.

Do the recipes use dairy as well? I love dairy but my body can’t tolerate it. As much as I like whipped cream and cheesecake I hate the after effects.

If you go to the link provided it says dairy free. It would have to be as this is a Paleo cookbook 😉

Kirsten, Kelly’s recipes, for the most part, are gluten-free, grain-free, and dairy-free. Enjoy!

I’m wondering about dairy as well, since you only mention gluten-free! Dairy is an even bigger issue for me than gluten…

Just wondering if all the recipes use almond flour? We are a nut free house due to life threatening food allergies.
