Today on the podcast I talk about my ever-changing weight, why it doesn’t matter, and why people should stop commenting on people’s weight as a compliment. Let’s change the conversation.

Juli,
I’ve been following your blog for several years and have loved watching you grow on you’re wellness journey. I have also been on a similar path away from food and exercise restriction and obsession into actually learning gown to love and nurture the body I’ve got. I know you know this, but for every one weird/negative comment you get there are likely 20 more people like me that rarely comment but appreciate you exactly as you are. I am a plant based eating, yoga and barre instructor, who is doing good to put on mascara once a week. I think it says a lot about how f-ing hilarious and great you are that I still feel like I identify with you and follow everything you put out there. Keep doing you sister! BTW $80 sounds like a steal for your program. I’d do it if I wasn’t up to my ears teaching classes.
Hi Juli,
This podcast was my first introduction to PaleoOMG. I have a terrible self-obsession with weight and appearance as a result of competing in CrossFit. I needed this podcast; it is soooo comforting that I am not alone in this judgment, exercise addiction, negative talk and finally recovery. I had been training CrossFit since 2010 and I made it to the CrossFit Games in 2018. I reached my goal, and I should have stopped then. But, I didn’t; I dug deeper, I dieted harder, I worked out harder, I quit to my job! I couldn’t separate myself from my fitness program, what would people think of me if I walked away, judgment was already harsh. I pushed on, but I had abs! My mind, body and soul, my attitude and my relationships were all becoming fractured…I wasn’t burning bridges; I was torching them. I quit in December 2019 after the Open and after a total mental meltdown, I haven’t gone to the gym since. I stopped counting macros. I am back to my career and it feels good to be again, I had a surgery I had been putting off, injuries, aches and pains have all gone away, and I can SLEEP fully and wake-up feeling rested. I have gained weight since I left (hello hoildays!) and my abs are gone and that’s ok, I will figure this out. I might be a bit “fluffy” today but at least I am starting to love myself again. I am going to give your program and plan a try. Thank you, keep sharing and keep real.
oh maaaaaan. we have quite the similar experience huh? it’s pretty crazy how addicted we get to the feeling of exercise as well as not letting people down. so happy you’ve found that new balance. it’s a long, tough road to get there, but it’s so completely worth it!
I loved this podcast. You’re totally right -being in a constant fight or flight mode will not lead to weight loss! Your podcast made me feel a lot better. I also think your 3 month program is such a steal for all the hard work you put into it! Thank you!
thanks for the love Beth!
Wow was this a loaded podcast!! LOVE IT! I think honestly my fave part was hearing you toot your own horn for a little bit. It made me so happy to hear how happy you are right now, how the launch of your program is making you feel, and that you’ve revamped your motivation and purpose. I am SO happy for you!! Also, love how sure you are of your worth and the program’s worth. There are lots of programs that can get pretty costly out there. If I find myself asking if its worth the money, I change the phrase to am I worth the money??? I shouldn’t be challenging the creator but myself. Am I worth the X dollars to do this program to make myself better? YES. Will I be more invested in fulfilling the program if I have some skin (money) in the game? YES. In summary, love your perspective on ever changing weight, your encouragement for positive self talk, and LOVE hearing how sure of yourself you are! Seriously inspiring!
YES! such a great way to put it! and i truly hope you think you’re worth the $80 or whatever else you are looking at. i talk about this a lot with my friend jess who does online coaching and she has to explain to people that they have to be willing to put in the money for themselves to better themselves. i do this all the time with my own business and personal growth, and it’s made such a huge difference in my own life!
Fuck SaraH!!
Juli,
This has been one of my favorite podcasts to date. I, too, have a hard time quitting cardio. I bought your Power Program and am loving it so far. Looking forward to the coming weeks and hoping to see results. I’m curious how you envision pairing the meal guide with the Power Program…in other words, do you look to eat higher carb on workouts days, etc or just wing it?
Thanks!
i really don’t pay much attention to that. if i’m craving carbs, i eat them. if i’m not, i don’t. i just created the meal guide to give people an understanding of eating REAL food and these recipes are exactly that. i think it’s important to learn to listen to the body, what it’s craving, and base your meal decisions off of that!
This was by far the BEST podcast you’ve done! I love your honesty and find you hilarious and so relatable. I cannot imagine putting myself out there like you do and having to deal with idiots who hide behind a screen. I bought your Power Program the day it launched but have yet to start it due to some other things going on in my life, but I intend to start this coming Monday. And $80 for the ridiculously low price for a 3 month program AND meal plan!! The planning and execution it must have taken to get it to come together…Keep up the GREAT work!!!
awwwww thanks Jessica! it can definitely be a mindfuck at times when people are going after you and the way you look. and thank you so much for the support on the program! it is definitely hard work and takes so much more than what people think!
Love this! What a great reminder on how to look at things in a different way. Thanks so much for helping me restart the negativity in my brain that allows me to go down a rabbit hole where I don’t belong.
thanks for listening Angie!! those rabbit holes just aren’t worth it
This podcast is everything! I needed to hear this so bad. I’ve been dealing with the same struggle of being horrible to myself, working out too much, not eating, binge eating…feeling I’m never skinny enough, or fit enough. My goal for 2020 is being kinder to myself, stop pinching my stomach and saying I’m fat all the time. I’ve had 2 kids and 2 c-sections…. I’m going to have a little loose skin! Anyway. Thanks for being so real and honest! You’re the best!
if we could all learn to love ourselves as much as we love the important people in our lives, life would be way more fun in every way!
Hi Juli!
I tried commenting on a previous podcast post regarding blogging but I think it was when you were making the updates to your website. I have a question regarding ads. Do you recommend having ads on a blog even if audience isn’t that big? If so, is there a company you recommend? TIA!
Ps. New website looks amazing!
Julie
absolutely!! every little bit of extra money you can get is money you didn’t have in the first place!
