I talk about skin all.the.time on the blog because it’s something I think about daily. I’m always checking my skin to see how it’s changing, if I’m having flare-ups, or why it looks different. And I’m constantly trying to improve my skin whether that’s through diet, skin treatments or products. But at the end of the day, if my diet isn’t adequate and my gut health isn’t optimal, it’s going to show on my skin. I think more and more people are starting to understand that, especially if they’ve taken on a healthier lifestyle, but it’s still sometimes overlooked. So today I wanted to share a little more about how I’ve worked on my skin, starting with what I put inside. Of course, you can also read about my experience on accutane or the skin treatments I’ve loved for acne scarring and aging, but this post is all about that gut!

First off, inflammation is bad. And inflammation in the body can come from all sorts of sources. But one of the main things that causes inflammation in the gut and digestive system is the food we eat. So that means if we are eating inflammatory foods such as poor quality protein, grains, sugar, alcohol or even nuts and dairy, many of those issues will come to show themselves on the skin. So how do we deal with those issues? Well duh, by removing those foods and introducing clean, whole foods and water daily. But another way to help aid inflammation and promote a healthy gut is through probiotics!

PaleOMG - Why Gut Health is So Important For Your Skin

There are probiotics all over the place so it can be hard to figure out which one is the best one for you. I’ve been taking Tula Probiotics for a few months now and have loved it! Tula Probiotics have probiotic strains in them that I can barely pronounce. Gotta work on that. They include Lactobacillus Rhamnosus GG which aids in digestive health by balancing bacteria in the intestine, Lactobacillus Plantarum which has been shown to help support optimal skin function, and Bifidobacterium Infantis that has been clinically shown to help with bloating, help reduce inflammation and provide relief of other IBS symptoms. Their probiotics also include ceramides which was shown to improve moisture retention, elasticity, texture and tone of the skin. And Vitamin C which is linked to many anti-aging benefits. I personally use Vitamin C on my skin every day so why wouldn’t I want to ingest it to get even more benefits!

For me, my skin looks and feels its best when I’ve removed all excess sugar, alcohol and dairy, and when I’m taking my probiotics daily along with sticking to my daily skin routine. After being on vacation in Cabo and not having the best quality meat and not as many veggies (along with a few too many dirty banana cocktails), my skin wasn’t feeling it’s best. BUT I took my probiotics throughout the whole trip and loaded up on vegetables once I got home and was able to get it back to feeling like itself in no time. They’ve really made a huge difference with my recovery whenever I have less optimal food or drink and my skin is looking better than ever!

If you’re trying to optimize your health and in turn optimize your skin, Tula is prepped and ready to aid in that process! Right now you can get 20% off your purchase + free shipping on orders over $50 using the code PALEOMG! I’ve been using Tula now for about month per your recommendation and I love what I’ve tried so far! What kind of moisturizer do you like to use for your hands? With it being winter and I may or may not be consistent with putting gloves on when I’m out my hands are sooo dry.

Thank you so much for recommending Tula! I’ve been using the cleanser, illuminating serum, and day/night moisturizer now for 6 weeks and my skin is in loooove! Just used this code to order the glycolic toner and rescue overnight cream, so excited! Seriously, these products have made my skin the best ever. Been on a search for a long time for effective, clean skincare. Thanks Juli!

Thanks for this. Does the code not work for the “Healthy Jumpstart Bundle”–the set of 3 probiotics? Its $78 but the code gives an error message. I tried the code with other products and it works. Reached out to them but heard nothing yet.
