I don’t want to act like I hated these…because I didn’t. I f*cking loved them. I ended staying strict on my 21 Day Sugar Detox to eat a couple of these. I love them. Did I say I love them? Because I figured something out. I need my sugar sometimes. It’s just what I need. If I want to keep my friendship and my relationship, I need chocolate sometimes. I’m sorry, I just do. As Sergio explained it, I’ve given up grains, then dairy, then nuts, and did a whole 21 day sugar detox to help cut out fruit, so why would I cut out one of the few things that make me happy. Which is true. Dark chocolate makes me happy. And I like being happy.

Disclaimer: I still think that everyone should do an entire 21DSD. Why? Because it’s awesome. And broke my crazy chocolate covered walnut and sunbutter and banana addiction. Do it, DO IT.

I would like to voice my opinion real quick. Ok, why the f*ck don’t we have classes that teach us how to do our taxes. How are we suppose to know? Maybe I’m just a complete tard and just starting to understand the real world since I’m 24, but my gosh, I don’t understand how we are just suppose to know this sh*t. Does it just come with time? Does it just come with hearing things from your friends? Or your parents? Or the government when they come after you? I don’t really know. I’m slowly figuring out, but not really loving the ride. It’s confusing. And stressful. And being a small business owner kind of sucks in some ways. So my opinion, and recommendation, is that schools start teaching basic tax classes. You teach us math, how to spell correctly (which has been erased with the use of spell check) and even teach us how to have a good interview…but you don’t teach us how to utilize our money correctly so the government doesn’t come after us and ruin our lives? I don’t get it. But I for one am frustrated with my college education.

Anyone else frustrated with the fact that mac computer cases don’t include a power cord pouch? I sure am.

Ok, back to positivity. I bought TWO new aprons yesterday. Both for Paleo Fx this week in Austin!! I’ll be doing a cooking demo and am lucky enough to hang out with people such as Michelle from NomNom Paleo, Diane from Balanced Bites, Melissa from The Clothes Make the Girl, Sarah Fragoso from Everyday Paleo, Robb Wolf, Hayley and Bill from Primal Palate, Stacy from Paleo Parents and a ton more other amazing people. It’s going to be intense paleo out there. Intimidating? Kind of. But I’ll still be stuffing my face either way.

As a small business owner, I recommend paying a professional to do your taxes for you. There are so many forms and deductions that you can miss. And I always get a much higher return than I would if I tried to do it on my own.

    yum!

Take my word and thank me later — you need an accountant. It’s not like when you get a maid — where it’s totally something you can do yourself, but you’re opting not to. Taxes in general are complicated, and there are so many nuances, especially for a small business owner. Put it in your budget and try and find someone you can stick with long term.

honestly, good for you for not being so strict on the detox. starting out, i was super strict and was getting crankier by the minute. it’s not like i even eat that much sugar! just like something a little sweet after my real food and i’m set. if i don’t get that then i feel dissatisfied and then grumpy. i swear it’s the simplest things. anyways, what i really meant to say is good for you for knowing what you need to make you happy and content 🙂

I know this recipe calls for the Paleo crunch but is there something else that would be just as good if you do not have that ingredient?! I really want to try these!
Also, in your blog you mention giving up nuts … did you give up nuts and sun butter and almond butter for just a short amount of time to break the “addiction” or did you completely cut them out period? I have a problem with the amount of almond butter i can eat in one sitting 🙁 ha.

    1. juli says:

yes, it’s definitely needed for this recipe. when i cut out nuts, I cut them out completely for quite a while. I still ate sun butter though. now i’ll have a little bit of nuts or sunbutter from time to time, but i feel sick when i do so i don’t tend to do it very often.

I bought the variety pack 🙂 i didn’t need much push on that purchase haha!

I’m just starting to look into the whole Paleo thingy. I’m finding it very hard to do because of all the nuts/coconut. Two out of four of my kids are allergic to those. I don’t have the time to cook two separate meals. Any thoughts/suggestions?

    1. juli says:

then don’t cook two separate meals. cook one that applies to all kids so no one feels left out. and figure out ways to make treats that doesn’t have nuts or coconut.

    2. Cate says:

Anne Marie – I just found out my 2 year old is allergic to milk and dairy and he tends to actually eat mostly Paleo for everything. He prefers meat over crackers! I would check out vegan (gasp, I know!) recipes and add in meats. You can also use sunbutter in a lot of things that ask for almond or coconut butter, and ground pepitas or flaxseeds in recipes that call for almond/coconut flour Hope that helps!

You are right on about taxes. The first year my parents didn’t do mine for me was a disaster. I also can’t stand when people talk about how easy it is. Recently I came to the realization that those people must have struggled and messed up a few years worth of returns and now that they have things more in control, they just ignore those early years.

  8. Lisa says:

I feel that way about taxes too! And about building credit. And about winterizing things like boats and sprinkler systems… And about checking water/oil levels and basic car maintenance. Someone has to teach me this kind of stuff. It’s like flying south for the winter–I’m the bird that took a wrong turn and ended up in Canada.

  9. Katelyn says:

I am on day 8 of my Whole30 and I’m feeling good. I was craving almond like crazy but Trader Joe’s has been out for almost a month so I bought the freshly ground stuff from Whole Foods and it wasn’t bad but it wasn’t what I wanted and now I’m not craving almond butter. Win/win?

    1. Mackenzie says:

haha note to self: dont get whole foods almond butter… I’ll be even more addicted!

      1. Mackenzie says:

oops i mean trader joes ^^

  10. Kari says:

    1. I wish I would have had a class on taxes, how to raise your credit score and how to take care of a car. Much more beneficial then Music Appreciation or Art History.
    2. Small Business idea….fanny pack for your mac cord.

    1. Jenn says:

HA! They DO have those classes, but you have to chose them over music appreciation and art history!
