Cherry season! I plan on making at least 6 meals with cherries since I have a huge bag of them. This will be the first. If you hate cherries, well the joke is obviously on you.

Yep. I knew it. I’m not into country music. Nope. I’ve listened to many, many country songs in my day. And used to actually love it when I had a boyfriend many years ago that listened to it incessantly. But after going to the Jake Owen concert, I can say I’m not into country. I mean, don’t get me wrong, he was great. He’s super entertaining, has a great teeth and a really good looking family. But I felt out of place at the concert. It could have been the teenagers dry humping to country music in their cut off plaid shirts or maybe the smell of cow poop in the midnight Greeley air, but it didn’t suit my fancy. I tried, it didn’t work. We even got to go backstage and drink adult beverages with the band, but I still wasn’t into it. We even had to pay a random guy, who turned out to be a band teacher at the local high school, to take us back to our hotel since there are about 2 taxis in the entire city of Greeley. How do college students get home after parties? I don’t get it.

After that delightful experience in Greeley, we went up north one more night to go to a friends house warming party. They have this gorgeous house, huge backyard AND a yellow lab puppy. So Jackson and her went absolutely insane for each other. Meaning Jackson was humping her face half the time, and she let it happen. When he wasn’t humping, they were absolutely adorable. They both were so exhausted but didn’t want to admit it to the other one. So one would lie down while the other one was walking away but quickly get back up if there wasn’t any movement that moved their way. They played, they fought, they tried to hump. They’re pretty much destined to be together. And Jackson even has another doggy date with a different girl puppy tomorrow. This one is a frenchie too. He’s such a slut.

After playing for probably 5 hours on Saturday night, Jackson did NOTHING on Sunday. Along with me and the boyfriend. Seriously, we didn’t do anything. I’m not one to sleep in very long, I usually get to 8am at the latest and it’s usually when I’m sick, but we both slept in until 11am on Sunday. It.Was.Awesome. Then we proceeded to watch as many episodes as possible of Orange is the New Black. And eat waffles. The one productive thing we did was grocery shop. That was it. We completely wasted our Sunday but man was it worth it. I woke up this morning ready to attack the day.

Speaking of attacking the day, guess what’s coming up soon?? Soon we are going to be heading on another book tour!! We haven’t finalized all of our stops yet, but I do know that I will be heading to Houston, Texas on July 15th at 7pm at Blue Willow Bookshop! Where my Houston people at?? Come visit us, grab a book, and bring some questions you have about paleo, cooking, and Jackson. Jackson’s name always comes up at these events.

    LOVING your new cookbook!
Will you make a stop here in Denver, since it’s “home”? (I didn’t see it on the last email I checked)
Always look forward to trying your recipes!

Hi, quick question about the apple sauce. I’m British living in Switzerland, so unfamiliar with any brands from the US, so what should I look for/avoid when it comes to apple sauce? Or do you make it yourself? Thanks xx

    1. juli says:

just a jar of pureed apples, that’s all that should be in there, no added sugar

  3. Carol says:

Can you suggest a substitute for applesauce please? I’m allergic to apples.

    1. juli says:

you could use another fruit puree such as a pear puree or even pumpkin

Hi, Juli! I absolutely love you and your blog! thanks for being awesome. I am waiting on your new book; so flipping excited right now! Is there a substitution for the coconut sugar? If not, I’m on the hunt. Thanks! 🙂

    1. juli says:

you could use regular white sugar, but you definitely want granulated sugar for this recipe

My boyfriend and I decided this weekend to get our s**t together and stop gorging on sugar (we do this in cycles, honestly). Then I saw this recipe and couldn’t help myself. These muffins rock! I’ve found with a couple of your muffin recipes that they don’t rise as much as I expect. How full do you fill your muffin tins?

    1. juli says:

      about 3/4 full

Agreed! Nobody ever comes here on book tours! It’s always the edges–East, West, North, South… What about the people in the middle?

But, anyway, these are fantabulous! Thank you:)

So I just felt happy and sad all at the same time.
Cherries make me happy, you coming to Houston ….makes me happy. Realizing its on a Tuesday night… makes me sad 🙁 I’ll never get there in time with our lovely traffic and having to work late.
    Bummer!

Hi Juli, It’s my first time swinging by. I saw this recipe posted on FB by a friend. I, too, LOVE cherries and have a huge bag in the fridge as I type. One question: how important is “coconut sugar”? Would regular sugar work? I’d like to try these for the holiday weekend!
    Thanks!

    1. juli says:

      regular sugar would work!

  9. Kayse says:

Hi Juli! Is there another flour we can use instead of the Tapioca?

    1. juli says:

      arrowroot

Mmmmmmm, these look mighty tasty! Might have to whip up a batch once the cherries from our sour cherry tree are ripe. Also gotta add, thanks for developing paleo/primal recipes for baked goods that DON’T include tree nut ingredients. One of our little dudes has an allergy and I hate ever having to say, “sorry buddy. This has nuts in it.”

BTdubs, the new cookbook is fantastic! Bravo to you and George!
