I receive an email almost every single day from someone asking what brand of protein powder I use after my workout. My short answer – I don’t use one after I workout. But my long answer is – I add collagen peptides to my coffee every morning because it helps reduce wrinkles, promotes healthy skin, strengthens my hair and nails, builds stronger bones, supports gut health, and oh yeah, it has a great source of protein in it. I don’t think too much about getting in protein after a workout, but I do care about healthy hair. And collagen peptides have TRANSFORMED my hair after using it day in and day out for years. But I recently found a brand that not only have collagen peptides in it, it also is packed with reishi mushroom which is known for its mood and immune boosting benefits! If you’ve watched my instagram stories lately, you already know I’m talking about Further Food.

PaleOMG Chocolate Collagen Energy Balls

I was recently introduced to Further Food and it has quickly become me and my husbands favorite collagen brand! And that’s because they only use 100% clean ingredients. This is the only chocolate protein powder you’ll find that has 100% real ingredients in it. Instead of looking at the ingredient list and trying to figure out how to pronounce a few of the ingredients, Further Food keeps it simple. In the Chocolate Collagen Peptides with Reishi Mushroom, you’ll find grass-fed, pasture-raised collagen peptides, cocoa powder, reishi mushroom, and monk fruit. That means their protein powder is keto approved, sugar free, and has 0 grams of net carbs and sugar! And no where else will you find a clean brand like Further Food that includes both collagen peptides AND reishi mushroom in one container!

Since I’ve talked about collagen peptides a ton here on the blog and on social media, I want to share a little bit more about reishi mushroom. Reishi mushroom has been used in Eastern medicine for years, but it’s just now becoming more widely known here in the US. Here are just a few of the benefits of reishi mushroom –

  • It boosts the immune system
  • It has anti-cancer properties
  • It could help fight fatigue and depression
  • It may improve heart health
  • It may help balance blood sugar
  • It is a great moodbooster
  • It may improve your sleep and stress levels

I’ve been adding collagen to my coffee for years, but now I have a powder where I can get both collagen AND reishi mushroom in one! I start having my husband add this to his own coffee and he swears by it now. He fully believes he’s in a better mood and his brain is able to function better when he gets his reishi mushroom in his diet! As soon as we ran out of our Further Food Chocolate Collagen & Reishi Mushroom, he was asking when we were getting more. My husband never notices that we are out of anything. I’m not joking.

But I know not everyone drinks coffee every morning, so they want to find different ways to get collagen in on a regular basis. I add the Further Food Chocolate Collagen & Reishi Mushroom powder to my coffee every morning with a bit of heavy cream to make the tastiest mocha, but you could also add it to milk or water after a workout, mix it with hot milk to make a hot cocoa, or you could mix it into hot water at night with a peppermint tea bag to make a super soothing peppermint mocha! You can also bake with it or just add it to your morning smoothie! And today I’m giving you one more idea of how to use Further Food collagen! Energy balls are a favorite in our house so I whipped these bad boys up the other day! They are a bit different than my normal energy balls because I added gluten free oats…GASP!

PaleOMG Chocolate Collagen Energy Balls

I know I know, gluten free oats aren’t paleo. But I like adding a little extra texture into some of my recipes or meals that I cook for me and my husband. It’s not something we eat all the time, but today is that day! I find that it makes these energy balls extra delicious. Along with this Further Food Chocolate Collagen & Reishi Mushroom Powder, these energy balls will not only give you a great amount of protein, but they will have you feeling good about the snacks you’re consuming or serving to your kids! And just FYI, if you haven’t tried out Further Food, you can get 15% off your Further Food order when you use code PALEOMG! And if you’re not a chocolate lover (first of all what’s wrong with you), you can get their vanilla flavor, or you can check out some of their other products like their Superfood Turmeric and Superfood Matcha!

This looks awesome and I’d love to try them — just curious, does the collagen have a mushroomy flavor at all? Pregnant and can’t handle it ?

i don’t think so whatsoever, but i’m also not pregnant lol. that fetus knows what it likes and doesn’t like. but both my husband and SIL tried them and loved them!

These look awesome! Question/idea for the podcast or a video…have you ever done fridge tour? I know it probably varies based on what recipes you have planned or experimenting with but I would love some fridge inspiration!

60 year old man here and very skeptical. Read your post several times and decided to pull the trigger based on your husband’s response. Have used it a week now and I truly believe I am more alert and energized. I rarely make sweet treats, as I have no discipline and will eat them all, so I use it in my coffee. So far this is life changing for me. Thank you for your blog on the collagen. I’ve set up an automatic re-order.

    1. juli says:

Thanks for sharing this product Juli and the sugar detox link. Stay at home guidelines has me on a bad track of eating for sometime and I needed the push to stop the sugar cravings and was looking for a way to add collagen to my recipes for the family. The chocolate peptides gives you that natural sweets feeling without the sugar.
