Iced Collagen Mocha Lattes (+ new cooking video!)

{ NEW COOKING VIDEO!!! }

Cooking videos are back in full swing and they’ll be on the blog every Tuesday with a brand spankin’ new recipe! And today I’m kicking it off with a coffee recipe that makes summer way more fun. Ok, not really, because summer is already the best. But it makes summer mornings more delightful since you don’t have to work for your coffee. All you have to do is make this ahead of time, store it in a container, shake, pour, drink. You can do this! I believe in you!

PaleOMG Iced Collagen Mocha Lattes (+ new cooking video!)

If you hear an condescending anger in my voice today, it’s because I’ve been up for 6 out of my 8 hours of sleep. Not a fan of that. I don’t know how parents do it. But I’ve had a sick pup who decided it was a great idea to puke on our white rug at midnight last night. And he decided to puke bright yellow, which goes swimmingly with our yellow and coral comforter. This comes weeks after Jackson puked bright pink all over our living room rug. Pepto bismol pink. So sketch. But the vet didn’t seem to be worried. So now we are at a crossing where he has ruined every rug in our house, the vet doesn’t seem to worry, and we have a dog that pukes randomly but seems fine the next day. Not really sure what to think. But it was a great reminder that I’m still not ready to have a child. Sleep is my favorite.

Being an adult is the pits. It’s the best, but it’s totally the pits. And I’ve finally taken full responsibility of being an adult by finally budgeting. I’ve always been so broke AF that budgeting was never needed, I just saved everything and prayed that I would be able to make rent. But now that I live with another human and we have to plan a life together and be prepared for an apocalypse at some point, budgeting has become my buddy. So I reached out to my friend Brianna of The School of Betty to get her budgeting spreadsheet and began filling it out starting with January to now. And let me tell you…it has been quite eye opening. And one of the biggest eye openers: coffee. Why the hell am I spending so much on coffee when I like how I make my coffee at home better than a coffee shop?

Do you guys out there ever fill out some sort of budgeting sheet to get you planning for the future and understanding your present ways? This stuff is never talked about in school (just like effing taxes) and it’s such a big part of our lives. I’d love to hear how you guys have budgeted or been enlightened of your own spending habits! Because at this point, I definitely want to cook more meals at home and make my own lattes, because that sh*t adds up reaaaaal fast. Which is why I’ll be enjoying this collagen mocha latte at home today! Excited to hear about your own budgeting hacks or how you have been enlightened in the past. And PS, when will the school system add this sh*t into their plans?? How rad would it be to leave high school or even college knowing how to deal with taxes and budget for the future.

      1. Maybe they’ve added something new to the ingredients that’s not setting well with his tummy? My dog used to vomit yellow, and since I switched him to Natural Balance L.I.D. he’s not had any issues.

      2. Stick with pure vida! Don’t let anyone sway you! My frenchies have been HATING the Denver heat the past few weeks. That could have something to do with his illlllllls. 🙁 Poor baby. Glad you got the hydration hump!

  1. Like humans, dogs can develop allergies to ingredients in their food, especially if they eat the same thing all of the time. We’ve been told to rotate our dog’s food to prevent this from happening.

  2. Honestly, I would get a second opinion and maybe have some blood work done on Jackson. He could be throwing up bile and/or blood (the pink) and that may mean nothing, but it may also be something. I would definitely get a second opinion or request bloodwork or a GI work up of some sort. Frenchies can be tricky little buggers!

  3. For what it’s worth, I agree Jackson’s issue could have to do with his food, even though he’s been eating it for a while. We were feeding our dog ‘the best of the best’ but when he started showing signs of nausea more regularly, we followed our instincts (and the advice of our vet) and switched him to a ‘lower quality’ food (i.e., from raw to a high quality grain fee kibble.) We always thought our dog was just smaller than average, but after 6 months on his new food he gained 10 (good) lbs + his nausea symptoms essentially went away.

    1. no, it’s through a course online, but you can reach out to Brianna at The School of Betty to sign up for a course in the future to get it!

  4. I have two pugs and one has random vomiting. How long do you go between feedings? My vet said that with the squishy faced guys, everything is so compact that it could just be like acid reflux if he goes too long without food, especially if it’s during the night when they are lying down. I was feeding every 12 hours. On occasion, he gets half a pepcid, but mostly just giving him a snack between feedings definitely has reduced the occurrences,

  5. This looks and sounds amazing (the coffee, not the vomiting)! Will definitely be making this this week. I had a similar realization recently with how much I was spending on coffee, going out for coffee once or twice a day. Oy. Thanks for the coffee at home inspiration! I hope Jackson feels better soon.

  6. I just started budgeting this year after finishing taxes and realizing that a large chunk of my income goes to hair, skincare, and clothing while my law school loans are still out there. Had I budgeted better, I could’ve had them paid off a few years ago. It was eye-opening. Now, I track with an excel spreadsheet which stops me from buying yet another expensive beauty item that I absolutely do not need. I think budgeting helps you reach financial goals faster.

  7. Money is something my family never spoke about. My parents never taught us how to handle money and what to do with money once we had it. Now that I’m a 30 ish adult, I have had to take full responsibility of my finances for a while now.
My sister introduced me to Dave Ramsey and that has helped me ALOT!!! I pay out of pocket for school since I don’t want any loan debt so that’s where a lot of my money goes. I also spend a ton on food. I cook a lot but I also love to try new places and get fancy now and then. I also love to travel when I am free from school on my breaks. I am taking a trip to New York next month and it will be the first vacation where I won’t come home in debt because I’ll have my money saved up in advance and can enjoy a guilt free vacation! Budgeting is the best because although it can be scary, it can also be really freeing.

  8. Hey Juli! Have you noticed any negative side effects from the collagen peptides? I’ve been using the same brand for about a month now, and LOVING how much better my joints feel (I’m a runner), but I’ve been having this weird frequent urination (like 15-20x a day) thing going on and also chest pain. Full disclosure, I suffer from a chronic illness of my nervous system, so could be totally unrelated to the collagen, but figured I’d ask since you’ve been using it for awhile and I really don’t want to stop it and lose the benefits!

    1. no i’ve never had any sort of weird side effects from collagen. i don’t think that would have to do with collagen in any way, but i’m also no a doctor so i would definitely speak to a specialist!

  9. You Need A Budget has transformed my relationship with personal finance and budgeting. I check my accounts and budget daily – and actually enjoy it! Since starting up with YNAB last year, my earning, spending and saving have been radically transformed. Really, can’t recommend it enough!

  10. This coffee looks amazing and I haven’t thought about blending everything together the night before but I will be doing this most evenings from now on! One budget that is amazing is the Dave Ramsey method! Thank you for all of the wonderful free recipes that you offer for us!

  11. Martha Rodriguez

I am trying this first thing in the morning. I hate that I go buy coffee when I have it here, but I hate hot coffee in the summer. I have been wondering if anyone I follow on IG would post a delicious cold brew…..and yay you did!!

  12. Yum, this looks so good! I have a father who is a financial planner/accountant, so budgeting and taxes have always been a part of my life. I remember being 6 years old and saving my allowance to buy a Barbie. no kidding. Here are some things I do to save money: review my spending every month to see where I’m over-spending, or find places where I can cut back or completely cut out. Check if your electric company has different time of use plans (“peak” or “off-peak” hours), and see if you can switch to a lower cost plan based on your usage. Some cable companies will increase rates after a special promotion period, just call them up and ask if there’s another plan that’s cheaper (there usually is!). Automatically deduct from your checking account every month into your retirement account (compounding interest makes a huge difference when you start when you’re young). Don’t carry balances on your credit cards – that interest eats up money. And if you really have a difficult time with buying extras, pay cash- when it runs out is when you stop buying your extras.

  13. My husband and I both have pretty crappy salaries–our combined income is less than some of my friends salaries. We both work full time for small businesses though. My husband built a spreadsheet for us and we use it to keep tabs on our budget. But lately we keep overspending: his licensing exams and study materials, traveling to visit family, car repairs, passports, medical expenses. It’s stuff that comes up that we don’t necessarily plan for so we are under water right now trying to keep from having to pay a ton of credit card interest and lose all of our savings. We haven’t take a proper vacation since our honeymoon (which was a road trip). It doesn’t seem to me like many other people are in the same situation as we are. I look round and everyone else seems to be happily getting their hair and nails done, buying new clothes, and eating out whenever they want. I am thinking about taking a second job or side project to alleviate some of the stress that money is having on our lives.

    1. you honestly never know what people’s financial situations are like. and we all go through different financial ups and downs throughout life!

  14. Where did you get the glasses? I am wanting some plain tall glasses and they are not that easy to find. Thanks!

    1. these ones were given as a gift, but i’ve found great tall glasses similar to these at world market, anthropologie and crate & barrel!

  15. robyn beresford

My dog would puke yellow (bile it turned out) all. The. Time. The vet said it’s because his stomach was empty. We let him free feed though so that was annoying. Maybe more frequent small meals throughout day??

  16. Hey Juli! OMG I have two bulldogs and they puke all the time because they eat things outside like sticks and lately grass! They both puked yellow after eating grass! And why do they always search for carpet to puke on??? I have plenty of tile etc, easy to clean…. but no a carpet must be found! I think the stomach thing is a bully thing though. Regardless Jackson is beautiful.

    1. I agree with Laura! We just did FPU in Feb. and it’s life changing-and we are NOT religious (the class talks about religion a bit)

  17. girl, you are going to struggle when you do have kids! no sleep and nights (days too) where you can’t do a single thing for yourself are hard!

    this drink looks so refreshing!

  18. My dog would do the same thing in addition to having terrible bloody diarrhea (sorry to be gross). I had to do boiled chicken breast, rice and pumpkin for a while and then switched him to a grain free dog food. He has been so much better ever since!

Definitely trying these lattes this week, I have chocolatde coconut collagen and think it will be perfect in these!

  19. These sound fantastic! Can’t wait to try them out!

After Bri did a sponsered post on your blog back in January, I signed up for her 90 Day No Shopping Challenge and it was SO AMAZINGLY HELPFUL. I have recommended The School of Betty to all of my friends! I too spent a shit ton on coffee… 🙁

    1. she’s the absolute best!! that’s so cool to hear you signed up for it! i wish i could get everyone to. she’s doing amazing stuff out there for people!

  20. Made this yesterday for father’s day and it was so f-ing delicious. I feel like it really made up for the fact that our toddler woke my husband up at ass am!

  21. Hi Julie,

Dogs can build sensitivities to their food or their gut bacteria can also change as humans. One thing I have found that works great for my pups is adding a few tablespoons of plain yogurt to their food at every meal. You also own a frenchie- brachycephalic (short snout) predisposes them to air while they eat which can also cause upset tummies. Feed smaller portions and more often. I have Bostons (gassy and snorty…air expelled from both ends, Ha!) and have been managing these issues for the past 15 years. They no longer suffer from gas. My doggies eat dry and wet can food by Nutro. I make their dog bones from peanut butter, oats and water and they eat veggies and fruits for treats- No commercial dog treats at all due to fillers and possible allergies. I hope this helps. By the way, love your site.

  22. Michelle Howell

Juli, this is so simple and is so delicious! I’ve made it a few times already using just our drip-brewed coffee, Chameleon Cold Brew’s Mocha, as well as home-brewed cold brew from Lexi’s Clean Kitchen. Each has been delicious! Side note: I recently made friends with a woman and we had a bunch of random things in common (it’s quite weird). Anyway, we were sharing our favorite skin care brands and I mentioned Tula, which “I learned about from a blog I read called Paleomg”. My new friend squealed and said, “OMG! I follow her too! We’re new besties!” LOL

    1. yayyyy!! i’m so glad you love it! I need to try Lexi’s cold brew! she’s the best! And that’s so freaking cool you both had that in common, so freaking fun!!

    1. oh man, problem is april – i HATE tea. i can’t stand it. so i’m not not sure if i could create something that i hate, but maybe someday!

  23. Oh my, I love good coffee, and I am so happy that this was delicious and creamy….and guilt-free! Thank you so much for this. Since going Paleo, I really appreciate stumbling upon indulgences such as these. Also, kudos to hearing that you may not want kids – I’m happily married and in the same boat. I just love life, have so much I want to do, and I don’t feel the urge to reproduce. We need more women like you to admit that as we are in the minority.

    1. i’m with you! i feel so alone sometimes with my feelings of not wanting to have kids. i’m surprised more people don’t feel that way now that we live in a world where a woman can truly do whatever she wants.

  24. My hubby is allergic to almonds and almost all other nuts.. anyone try this with another type of milk besides one with *nuts that tastes yummy?

  25. These lattes are delicious! I will be making more to have throughout the week. I’ve been looking for a way to add collagen in my diet and this is perfect! Thank you for the recipe!
