If I’ve seen one thing over this past week, it’s that people are open to change. Changing their viewpoints, changing their habits, and changing their actions. I think we are often taught that we are one way or another – we are good or evil, conservative or democrat, fit or lazy. People always feel like they have to be one thing or another. But that’s just not true. As the protests have filled the streets, we are seeing the change before our eyes. We are witnessing history – a global change. But something we aren’t seeing are the tough conversations that are happening at home, behind closed doors. Children are talking to their parents, their grandparents, and even their children; opening their eyes to the change that needs to happen so we can create a beautiful world for the people who come after us. This world is changing and it’s a really beautiful thing.
And since I normally talk about something fitness related on Mondays, I thought I would share my thoughts on change when it comes to our fitness journeys. If you feel out of shape, you can change that. If you’re not loving the gym you’re going to, you can change that. If you feeling less than motivated, you can change that. People change all the time, in some many different ways, including their fitness.
One of the coolest parts about life is that you get to decide who you are, every single day. And that person will and SHOULD change. One day you may be a person who loves yoga and the next you may be a person who lifts weights. OR BOTH. Then you may go through a change where you don’t like to work out at all. Life is all about changes and you get to decide what those changes look like.
If you are trying to find your motivation to work out, remind yourself that you are the only one who can create that change within yourself. Motivation can be created short term by outside sources – you can go to a fitness class, start a challenge, go work out with a friend. But if you want to find motivation long term, it comes from inside. It comes from deciding who you want to be not only today, but tomorrow. And just because you didn’t want to work out yesterday doesn’t mean today has to be the same.
Change is here and it’s not going anywhere. You can not only change your mindset, but you can change your habits. Start today, continue to tomorrow, and become to change you want to see. Life is all about change and you have the ability to make such an impact not only on yourself, but on the others around you.
I have been following fitfoodiele for years! She’s fabulous…a Black Christian fitness blogger. I also follow mrsmommymd, a health disparities crusader. These two I’ve found are positive women that I admire.
thanks for sharing Theresa!
Thanks, Juli, I needed this! Pre-quarantine I was lifting 3-4 times a week and for the first couple of months I did really well keeping some form of workout in my day to day routine but these last few weeks I haven’t had any motivation. It’s been a struggle so thanks for the reminder that I have the power to change it at any time!
YAS! we all have the power to change, no matter what it is! You got this, Dani!
