We live in a world filled with a million things to do. When people say they are bored, I always wonder HOW. We live in a world filled with movies, never-ending tv shows, constant entertainment with social media, a computer that has endless amounts of things to watch, information to take in, and courses to learn from. If you’re around my age or older, think back to when you were a kid and had to create your own entertainment. Remember sitting in a shopping cart as your mom grocery shopped and how insanely bored you felt because you had nothing to do and nothing to look at. So then you would sneak off to the magazine isle to look at teeny bopper magazines. That was the highlight of entertainment in your week. But now, we have it all, all the damn time.

And because of this, it’s always easy to come up with excuses to not take care of ourselves. We will say we are going to work out, but then we get sucked into our work email that pops up onto our phone at all times of the day. Or you get sucked into a show that has 10 episodes that you can’t stop watching. Or we are just mindlessly scrolling and then it’s 6pm and the last thing we want to do is work out. Distractions can easily become excuses and because of that, we blame those excuses on those outside forces. We say we are too busy to work out, yet we had plenty of time to scroll or watch tv or sit through hundreds of youtube videos. And days of excuses then become weeks, then months, and before we know it…YEARS.

But that cycle can end as soon you decide it should – as soon as you take responsibility for your long term health and your choices. It may be easier to scroll, but it’s much more beneficial to lift…to run…to jump. Obviously. And those choices to move your body will continue to pay off day after day, month after month, and year after year. It may suck at first and you may hate the fucking shit out of it, but it WILL pay off. If you take responsibility for your health then all you have to do is take action. Start with daily walks, then maybe add in a slight jog for 30 seconds as you feel stronger, then maybe lift some weights to work on those muscles AND bones, then maybe try a new fitness program, then maybe sign up for a new gym. It all starts with taking responsibility for the one body you’ve been given. And once you take responsibility for your own choices, those actions will become easier and easier. Start today, start small, and get ready to start something that will change your life for the better.
