Disclaimer: I’m gross. I’m an excessively sweaty human being. I remember going through puberty and completely soaking my shirt from armpit sweat. I would sweat then be nervous about sweating so I would sweat more. And to combat all of this, I would use the normal over-the-counter deodorants or anti-perspirants to help with the sweating and the smell. But I found it so weird because it just made it worse, and before I knew it, I had lathered my armpits with 47 layers of sweat and poison. Yes, poison. But I didn’t think anything else would work. Organic? Natural? Oh hells no, I’m not interested in smelling like a hippy. B*tch has to have some standards.

Just a little knowledge for ya if you don’t know what may be hiding in your deodorant, even sometimes in certain “natural” deodorants (source), here’s a quick peek:

  1. aluminum – this blocks your pores from sweating, but can mess with hormones and has been links to cancer and other sketch sh*t
  2. parabens – preservatives – links to hormonal imbalance, cancers and organ toxicity
  3. propylene glycol – a chemical that can cause damage to central nervous system
  4. triclosan – pesticide – may possess endocrine disrupting properties
  5. steareths – additives that makes harsh ingredients more mild

What.The.F*ck. How is this legal? Well, fast food, soda and tobacco are all legal, so I guess it makes sense. And there is sometimes even more than just those 5 crappy ingredients hiding in your deodorant. So gross.

Here’s the thing, I just never really cared about all this. I didn’t want to sweat and I didn’t want to smell, so I globbed on any deodorant that promised the world. But one day one of my good friends, who is pretty hippy dippy but still loves botox (which means I trust her), said it was time for me to toss the crap deodorant and try a natural one. So I did. I took the plunge. And loved it. I sweat less, I NEVER smelled, and I only had to use it one time per day. But I quickly began getting a rash and it didn’t work as well as I hoped.

Luckily, another hippy dippy botox loving friend introduced me to Primally Pure. She explained that the deodorant was way better smelling, way softer and definitely didn’t cause her a rash. I put off purchasing it forever, but then one day fate ran its course and when I was on book tour, I ended up having dinner with the creator of Primally Pure – Bethany. Fate. And once I tried her deodorant, I was blown away. No stink, no reapplying needed, and no rash!

Just a little background about Bethany – she and her family run a farm together full with pastured raised chicken, sheep, and beef. So when Bethany started eating real food and taking care of her body, she decided it was time to do the same thing for her own skin and began creating her own products. 100% all natural. Filled with ingredients you can actually pronounce! And she’s the sweetest, most darling human. She really is. And I’m a b*tch, I wouldn’t lie about that.

So why am I telling you all of this? Because I’m obsessed with this deodorant and obsessed with telling you about my favorite products, treatments and procedures. This deodorant is the best and it’s going to change how you see deodorant and how you take care of your body!

Let’s do a quick run down of all the natural products she has! First up, the deodorant! It comes in 4 different scents – lavender, lemongrass, tea tree, and unscented! It goes on smooth, it doesn’t gunk up, and it seriously smells amazing! I highly highly recommend it! She even has a sensitive line with less baking soda, in case you have experienced a reaction with the normal deodorant. Look how simple the ingredients are in my favorite lavender natural deodorant:

  • Organic Arrowroot Powder, Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil*, Organic Tallow from Grass-Fed Cows, Baking Soda, Organic Beeswax, Organic Lavender Essential Oil

But she also has A TON of other products including the lip balm that works wonders and doesn’t make your lips more chapped (which I SWEAR most chapsticks do!), beauty cream, cleansing oil, and many other face products. And she has body products like body butter and even men’s products!

If you want to take better care of your body, don’t forget about your skin. It’s the biggest organ on your body and it deserves the best! And you know what? While you support your body in becoming healthier and more fragrantly appealing, you’ll also be supporting an amazing woman who is putting good into this world! Hope you guys love Primally Pure as much as I do!

Oh, Hi! I’m Juli.

I’m a food hoarder. And a really bad dancer. If you don’t know me well, you will probably not understand my humor. Therefore, I apologize ahead of time. Thanks for listening to my ramblings of my ever-changing life and trusting my kitchen mishaps. Your trust in me is appreciated.

  1. I’ve been using their deodorant for over a month, and I really like it! I think I’m going to have to switch to the sensitive though. I’ve been getting a rash and having to use it every other day. I definitely sweat LESS now, and there is NO smell! It goes on smooth which is not the case for other natural deodorants I’ve tried. It took a few weeks to adjust, but I’m never going back to antiperspirant!

  2. I’ve been using this deodorant for a couple of months now and I love it. I don’t get a rash like I did with the other natural deodorant I tried, and the smell is great! The only issue I have is, I am noticing it is staining my clothes in the armpit area. Do you notice this? It almost looks like an oil stain, and it doesn’t come out in the wash. Such a bummer because I love the deodorant, but I don’t want to ruin all my shirts!

    1. i’ve only had this issue when i was using too much of the deodorant. for me, i think you only need a very light layer unlike normal deodorant. as soon as i did only one swipe, i didn’t have that issue anymore

    2. Not sure if this is still happening to you, but this happens to me too — i use a laundry stain spray straight on the armpits of my shirts and it always comes out (on the rare occasion i have to repeat a spray/wash twice). Figured I’d share so you could try that before tossing any shirts….but reading these comments i realize it’s likely because I’m putting too much on so taking a mental note for myself!

    3. With every natural deodorant I’ve tried I’ve noticed the lite can get yellow, but they actually wash out just by using some stain remover. I haven’t tried this specific deodorant yet, but it’s worth a shot!

  3. As a similarly sweaty person (seriously I sweat more than EVERY other woman I know) – do you still like sweat enough to sweat through shirt with this deodorant? I’m so nervous to try natural stuff because I’ve been so dependent on maximum strength antiperspirants for so long. BUT I want to make the switch since I do know it’s better for me. Halp!

    1. it depends on the situation, i still definitely sweat. but anti-perspirants are so incredibly toxic, i don’t even care! but i do definitely sweat LESS than i did with normal deodorants

  4. Hey, girl, your feedly is still not working just thought I’d let you know! You 12K followers on it (I am clearly one) who haven’t been getting your updates! Unless you intentionally turned it off which I know some people do, I just thought I’d let you know!

  5. Do you use the sensitive one or the normal deodorant? I’m looking to try this out but am unsure if I should try the sensitive one or normal deodorant first.

  6. Thank you so much for this post. I have tried multiple “natural” deodorants. I even tried Young Living Thieves toothpaste from recommendations and every time I get a rash. I am going to bite the bullet and try one more hoping that the rash stays away! You rock!

  7. Thank you so much for this post! I am also excessively sweaty , so I am grateful to find out something has worked for someone in the same situation as myself. Have you by chance ever tried the deodorants made by Primal Pit Paste? I am wondering how Primally Pure brand compares to that one?? It’s important to me to use a non-toxic deodorant, but unfortunately the ones from Primal Pit Paste give me a rash (even the unscented “light” version does) and I feel it doesn’t help me with odor control very well either. Based off of your experience, it sounds like Primally Pure may be worth a try… but I was just curious if you tried Primal Pit Paste and found that Primally Pure worked better for you? Thanks again!

    1. yes, that was the first natural deodorant i used and i loved it at first but then i got a rash and it stopped working as well and i would smell. i’m not trying to put that company down, i just prefer Primally Pure way more

  8. Hi. Juli, I’m definately going to try this deodorant, & possibly some of their other products, thank you so much for posting this. Ive recently been diagnosed with a myriad of serious autoimmunity. Im talking Lupus, Sjorgrens, & other things. I was just thinking yesterday about switching to more natural products, so this is very timely, how did you know I needed this, youre amazing!

Also, jusst FYI, you are now a huge part of my healing journey; i plan on purchasing your latest cookbook today, & ive been looking @ your blog for over a year now & just love your recipes.! I was wondering though, if there were any books that you can recommend that explain how to do all of the cross fit exercises that you do, as I just dont have the time to look all of them up on YouTube ?

Thank you again & hope youre having a great day today!

    Jen

    1. im not totally sure about that. there is a book that i recently worked on with a friend called the Fed & Fit Book where it has many of the movements i do along with workouts within the book!

  9. What is your favorite scent so far (of the deodorant)? I’m having such a hard time deciding! I’m kind of wondering if tea tree oil could work for both men and women…

      1. The lemongrass is my fav – it smells amazing.

I went though the worst 2 week detox period when I switched to natural, like I mean I smelt like the funkiest cheese you could ever imagine, but when I found this stuff it all changed (for the better, thank god). 100% the best natural deodorant out there.

  10. Order placed! I’ve been trying to switch to a natural deodorant forever, but nothing seems to work. Can’t wait to try this !!!

  11. I had a similar experience with Primal Pit Paste. I had a rash inside the pit. I switched to Tom’s because I couldn’t handle the rash and it was at Target. I had thrown away all my hormone disrupting options already, so no other choices out there on a whim at the store. Thanks for posting this – I just ordered two scents in the hopes they work out better. I love FATE & how it works in life. It was a small amount of FATE that I came to your website and saw this post, haha! I have followed you on IG for a long time & listen to your podcast, but (unfortunately) rarely came to your website. I had some time and I’m glad I did. Lots of good stuff on here! Looking forward to trying this option. Hope it doesn’t go in the graveyard of natural deodorants. Btw – I am happy to order through affiliate links. If that helps you give free content to the world, I don’t mind them at all!

  12. Finally – someone said what I’ve been thinking about chapstick / lip balm! I’m ordering that and the deodorant when I get out of work tonight! Thanks for being a trusted guinea pig of all things for us 🙂

  13. I ordered too. Also the lip balm which I have had on my list to try since both Fed and Fit and PaleOMG like and the dry shampoo. I am looking forward to the Lemongrass, currently using Toms but its so wet feeling. Works ok as far as smell goes but I do still sweat some. Can’t wait to try some of your products.

  14. I travel a ton for work (usually in the south) so my products have to be able to hang in a hot car. Do you think this deodorant will melt in a hot car or will the heat change any of its properties? Thanks for the recommendation!!

  15. Thanks for the great info! I’ve worked on trying to eat natural food as much as possible (although organic doesn’t always fit in my budget), but I was curious about your thoughts on non-food items… besides food, what do you prioritize in regards to using only natural products (i.e. Household cleaning supplies, laundry detergent, toothpaste, body lotion, makeup, etc)? I really appreciate it!

  16. I’ll have to try this brand next! I’ve been transitioning all my skincare/hair/makeup/household products to natural after discovering all the crap in them. I’ve tried 3 different natural deoadorants so far and am not super impressed by any of them (I sweat a lot, too!). So this will def be my next try! Keep the natural product recommendations coming! Love your blog/recipes/pods casts/hilarious commentary. You make my life so much easier with yummy, healthy food-I’m happily cooking my way through your latest cookbook!

  17. I’m so happy I read this post! I’ve been thinking about switching to a natural deodorant, but I sweat a lot and the nervous sweat really gets to me at work sometimes. I hate having sweaty marks on my clothes – especially when I wear nice blouses in the corporate world. After reading comments and reviews on Primally Pure and I think it’s worth trying out. Thinking about my Dove Dry Spray antiperspirant makes my arms hurt thinking about all the chemicals.

  18. I’ve been wanting to switch to an all natural deodorant for a long time now but never knew where to start. I’m also a part earthy crunchy chic who injects botox into my forehead so you pretty much had me sold right when you said that. I’ve been following you for a while now and you have inspired me to start my own blog. I actually started following you because you have a french bulldog like myself and well who doesn’t love Frenchies

  19. Any idea if they make a baking soda free deodorant? Sadly, even the sensitive version made me break out in a rash. Guess I’m ultra sensitive to baking soda. 🙁 I don’t recall seeing the dry deodorant, can you share the name of the product, is it just called ‘dry deodorant’?

  20. I want to try this deodorant but every natural deodorant I’ve tried that has baking soda in it gives me a reaction. I get sores on my skin that slowly development with daily use. Any alternatives for me? Thanks!

    1. You could try PiperWai. I haven’t tried this one that Julie is recommending but I have had issues with other natural deodorants that have baking soda and even though it does contain some i have yet to experience any issues with piperwai.

  21. I had a very similar experience where I switched to a natural deodorant, loved it, but then it started to give me a rash. I’m excited to give this one a try!
And on a somewhat funny and relatable tangent, I can absolutely emphasize with being the sweaty kid. My delightful peers in high school used to call me faucet, which of course resulted in more profuse sweating.
Thanks for the post and additionally, for all your kicka** recipes! Your site (and you) rock

  22. Hi Juli! I’m thinking about trying this, can you give an update of how this is working for you now that you’ve been using it a few months? Is it only available online, or are there any brick and mortar stores you can get it at? I’m ok with sweating but I feel like my current deodorant just isn’t doing the job in the odor department, how do you feel this one does?

Thanks for all the info you share! Keep doing you!

    1. i’m honestly not really sure. i don’t mark the date when i started using a stick. and i also have two different sticks that i use so it’s really hard to say exactly how long it lasts

  23. Hey Juli! Do you have any issue with the coconut oil in the deodorant making marks or even stains on your clothes when you use this? I’m using a natural deodorant right now that I like so far but when I wear t-shirts the deodorant makes marks and they don’t seem to come out fully in the wash. Maybe the natural laundry soap I’m using isn’t strong enough to get oil out of my clothes but wondering if you’ve had this issue at all with Primally Pure.

  24. Hi Juli! How long does one of these last you? Also, when is your podcast coming out with Miranda Chivers? I keep looking for it and don’t want to miss it!

  25. Just placed an order for the deodorant, face oil, and the blue tansy lotion. Can’t wait to try them! I’ve also been on Accutane (3x’s) so I need something to help with scarring and wrinkles. Thanks for all your skin care posts!
