Disclaimer: I’m gross. I’m an excessively sweaty human being. I remember going through puberty and completely soaking my shirt from armpit sweat. I would sweat then be nervous about sweating so I would sweat more. And to combat all of this, I would use the normal over-the-counter deodorants or anti-perspirants to help with the sweating and the smell. But I found it so weird because it just made it worse, and before I knew it, I had lathered my armpits with 47 layers of sweat and poison. Yes, poison. But I didn’t think anything else would work. Organic? Natural? Oh hells no, I’m not interested in smelling like a hippy. B*tch has to have some standards.

Just a little knowledge for ya if you don’t know what may be hiding in your deodorant, even sometimes in certain “natural” deodorants (source), here’s a quick peek:

  1. aluminum – this blocks your pores from sweating, but can mess with hormones and has been links to cancer and other sketch sh*t
  2. parabens – preservatives – links to hormonal imbalance, cancers and organ toxicity
  3. propylene glycol – a chemical that can cause damage to central nervous system
  4. triclosan – pesticide – may possess endocrine disrupting properties
  5. steareths – additives that makes harsh ingredients more mild

What.The.F*ck. How is this legal? Well, fast food, soda and tobacco are all legal, so I guess it makes sense. And there is sometimes even more than just those 5 crappy ingredients hiding in your deodorant. So gross.

Here’s the thing, I just never really cared about all this. I didn’t want to sweat and I didn’t want to smell, so I globbed on any deodorant that promised the world. But one day one of my good friends, who is pretty hippy dippy but still loves botox (which means I trust her), said it was time for me to toss the crap deodorant and try a natural one. So I did. I took the plunge. And loved it. I sweat less, I NEVER smelled, and I only had to use it one time per day. But I quickly began getting a rash and it didn’t work as well as I hoped.

Luckily, another hippy dippy botox loving friend introduced me to Primally Pure. She explained that the deodorant was way better smelling, way softer and definitely didn’t cause her a rash. I put off purchasing it forever, but then one day fate ran its course and when I was on book tour, I ended up having dinner with the creator of Primally Pure – Bethany. Fate. And once I tried her deodorant, I was blown away. No stink, no reapplying needed, and no rash!

Just a little background about Bethany – she and her family run a farm together full with pastured raised chicken, sheep, and beef. So when Bethany started eating real food and taking care of her body, she decided it was time to do the same thing for her own skin and began creating her own products. 100% all natural. Filled with ingredients you can actually pronounce! And she’s the sweetest, most darling human. She really is. And I’m a b*tch, I wouldn’t lie about that.

So why am I telling you all of this? Because I’m obsessed with this deodorant and obsessed with telling you about my favorite products, treatments and procedures. This deodorant is the best and it’s going to change how you see deodorant and how you take care of your body!

Let’s do a quick run down of all the natural products she has! First up, the deodorant! It comes in 4 different scents – lavender, lemongrass, tea tree, and unscented! It goes on smooth, it doesn’t gunk up, and it seriously smells amazing! I highly highly recommend it! She even has a sensitive line with less baking soda, in case you have experienced a reaction with the normal deodorant. Look how simple the ingredients are in my favorite lavender natural deodorant:

  • Organic Arrowroot Powder, Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil*, Organic Tallow from Grass-Fed Cows, Baking Soda, Organic Beeswax, Organic Lavender Essential Oil

But she also has A TON of other products including the lip balm that works wonders and doesn’t make your lips more chapped (which I SWEAR most chapsticks do!), beauty cream, cleansing oil, and many other face products. And she has body products like body butter and even men’s products!

If you want to take better care of your body, don’t forget about your skin. It’s the biggest organ on your body and it deserves the best! And you know what? While you support your body in becoming healthier and more fragrantly appealing, you’ll also be supporting an amazing woman who is putting good into this world! Hope you guys love Primally Pure as much as I do!

I’ve been wanting to switch to an all natural deodorant for a long time now but never knew where to start. I’m also a part earthy crunchy chic who injects botox into my forehead so you pretty much had me sold right when you said that. I’ve been following you for a while now and you have inspired me to start my own blog. I actually started following you because you have a french bulldog like myself and well who doesn’t love Frenchies

Any idea if they make a baking soda free deodorant? Sadly, even the sensitive version made me break out in a rash. Guess I’m ultra sensitive to baking soda. 🙁 I don’t recall seeing the dry deodorant, can you share the name of the product, is it just called ‘dry deodorant’?

I want to try this deodorant but every natural deodorant I’ve tried that has baking soda in it gives me a reaction. I get sores on my skin that slowly development with daily use. Any alternatives for me? Thanks!

You could try PiperWai. I haven’t tried this one that Julie is recommending but I have had issues with other natural deodorants that have baking soda and even though it does contain some i have yet to experience any issues with piperwai.

Going to try this! Do you have a male recommendation, too?!

    1. juli says:

for deodorant? you could just use the unscented!

I had a very similar experience where I switched to a natural deodorant, loved it, but then it started to give me a rash. I’m excited to give this one a try!
And on a somewhat funny and relatable tangent, I can absolutely emphasize with being the sweaty kid. My delightful peers in high school used to call me faucet, which of course resulted in more profuse sweating.
Thanks for the post and additionally, for all your kicka** recipes! Your site (and you) rock

Hi Juli! I’m thinking about trying this, can you give an update of how this is working for you now that you’ve been using it a few months? Is it only available online, or are there any brick and mortar stores you can get it at? I’m ok with sweating but I feel like my current deodorant just isn’t doing the job in the odor department, how do you feel this one does?

Thanks for all the info you share! Keep doing you!

    1. Ashlee says:

Oh also, approximately how long does the 2oz stick last?

    2. juli says:

i’m honestly not really sure. i don’t mark the date when i started using a stick. and i also have two different sticks that i use so it’s really hard to say exactly how long it lasts

Hey Juli! Do you have any issue with the coconut oil in the deodorant making marks or even stains on your clothes when you use this? I’m using a natural deodorant right now that I like so far but when I wear t-shirts the deodorant makes marks and they don’t seem to come out fully in the wash. Maybe the natural laundry soap I’m using isn’t strong enough to get oil out of my clothes but wondering if you’ve had this issue at all with Primally Pure.

    1. juli says:

nope! i’ve never had that issue! and you really don’t need to use that much when you use this kind of deodorant!

  8. Lauren says:

Hi Juli! How long does one of these last you? Also, when is your podcast coming out with Miranda Chivers? I keep looking for it and don’t want to miss it!

    1. juli says:

quite a while, maybe 4 months of more! and her episode is coming out in 2 weeks!

Just placed an order for the deodorant, face oil, and the blue tansy lotion. Can’t wait to try them! I’ve also been on Accutane (3x’s) so I need something to help with scarring and wrinkles. Thanks for all your skin care posts!
