Disclaimer: I’m gross. I’m an excessively sweaty human being. I remember going through puberty and completely soaking my shirt from armpit sweat. I would sweat then be nervous about sweating so I would sweat more. And to combat all of this, I would use the normal over-the-counter deodorants or anti-perspirants to help with the sweating and the smell. But I found it so weird because it just made it worse, and before I knew it, I had lathered my armpits with 47 layers of sweat and poison. Yes, poison. But I didn’t think anything else would work. Organic? Natural? Oh hells no, I’m not interested in smelling like a hippy. B*tch has to have some standards.
Just a little knowledge for ya if you don’t know what may be hiding in your deodorant, even sometimes in certain “natural” deodorants (source), here’s a quick peek:
- aluminum – this blocks your pores from sweating, but can mess with hormones and has been links to cancer and other sketch sh*t
- parabens – preservatives – links to hormonal imbalance, cancers and organ toxicity
- propylene glycol – a chemical that can cause damage to central nervous system
- triclosan – pesticide – may possess endocrine disrupting properties
- steareths – additives that makes harsh ingredients more mild
What.The.F*ck. How is this legal? Well, fast food, soda and tobacco are all legal, so I guess it makes sense. And there is sometimes even more than just those 5 crappy ingredients hiding in your deodorant. So gross.
Here’s the thing, I just never really cared about all this. I didn’t want to sweat and I didn’t want to smell, so I globbed on any deodorant that promised the world. But one day one of my good friends, who is pretty hippy dippy but still loves botox (which means I trust her), said it was time for me to toss the crap deodorant and try a natural one. So I did. I took the plunge. And loved it. I sweat less, I NEVER smelled, and I only had to use it one time per day. But I quickly began getting a rash and it didn’t work as well as I hoped.
Luckily, another hippy dippy botox loving friend introduced me to Primally Pure. She explained that the deodorant was way better smelling, way softer and definitely didn’t cause her a rash. I put off purchasing it forever, but then one day fate ran its course and when I was on book tour, I ended up having dinner with the creator of Primally Pure – Bethany. Fate. And once I tried her deodorant, I was blown away. No stink, no reapplying needed, and no rash!
Just a little background about Bethany – she and her family run a farm together full with pastured raised chicken, sheep, and beef. So when Bethany started eating real food and taking care of her body, she decided it was time to do the same thing for her own skin and began creating her own products. 100% all natural. Filled with ingredients you can actually pronounce! And she’s the sweetest, most darling human. She really is. And I’m a b*tch, I wouldn’t lie about that.
So why am I telling you all of this? Because I’m obsessed with this deodorant and obsessed with telling you about my favorite products, treatments and procedures. This deodorant is the best and it’s going to change how you see deodorant and how you take care of your body!
Let’s do a quick run down of all the natural products she has! First up, the deodorant! It comes in 4 different scents – lavender, lemongrass, tea tree, and unscented! It goes on smooth, it doesn’t gunk up, and it seriously smells amazing! I highly highly recommend it! She even has a sensitive line with less baking soda, in case you have experienced a reaction with the normal deodorant. Look how simple the ingredients are in my favorite lavender natural deodorant:
- Organic Arrowroot Powder, Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil*, Organic Tallow from Grass-Fed Cows, Baking Soda, Organic Beeswax, Organic Lavender Essential Oil
But she also has A TON of other products including the lip balm that works wonders and doesn’t make your lips more chapped (which I SWEAR most chapsticks do!), beauty cream, cleansing oil, and many other face products. And she has body products like body butter and even men’s products!
If you want to take better care of your body, don’t forget about your skin. It’s the biggest organ on your body and it deserves the best! And you know what? While you support your body in becoming healthier and more fragrantly appealing, you’ll also be supporting an amazing woman who is putting good into this world! Hope you guys love Primally Pure as much as I do!

I’ve been using their deodorant for over a month, and I really like it! I think I’m going to have to switch to the sensitive though. I’ve been getting a rash and having to use it every other day. I definitely sweat LESS now, and there is NO smell! It goes on smooth which is not the case for other natural deodorants I’ve tried. It took a few weeks to adjust, but I’m never going back to antiperspirant!
So happy to hear that you’re liking our deodorant, Beth! I think you’ll like the sensitive version too. Feel free to shoot us an email at hello@primallypure.com if you have any questions!
I’ve been using this deodorant for a couple of months now and I love it. I don’t get a rash like I did with the other natural deodorant I tried, and the smell is great! The only issue I have is, I am noticing it is staining my clothes in the armpit area. Do you notice this? It almost looks like an oil stain, and it doesn’t come out in the wash. Such a bummer because I love the deodorant, but I don’t want to ruin all my shirts!
i’ve only had this issue when i was using too much of the deodorant. for me, i think you only need a very light layer unlike normal deodorant. as soon as i did only one swipe, i didn’t have that issue anymore
Hi Katelyn! Juli is right about the staining issue – it usually results from over-application. We have more info about it here:

Hope that helps! 🙂
Not sure if this is still happening to you, but this happens to me too — i use a laundry stain spray straight on the armpits of my shirts and it always comes out (on the rare occasion i have to repeat a spray/wash twice). Figured I’d share so you could try that before tossing any shirts….but reading these comments i realize it’s likely because I’m putting too much on so taking a mental note for myself!
With every natural deodorant I’ve tried I’ve noticed the lite can get yellow, but they actually wash out just by using some stain remover. I haven’t tried this specific deodorant yet, but it’s worth a shot!
As a similarly sweaty person (seriously I sweat more than EVERY other woman I know) – do you still like sweat enough to sweat through shirt with this deodorant? I’m so nervous to try natural stuff because I’ve been so dependent on maximum strength antiperspirants for so long. BUT I want to make the switch since I do know it’s better for me. Halp!
it depends on the situation, i still definitely sweat. but anti-perspirants are so incredibly toxic, i don’t even care! but i do definitely sweat LESS than i did with normal deodorants
Hey, girl, your feedly is still not working just thought I’d let you know! You 12K followers on it (I am clearly one) who haven’t been getting your updates! Unless you intentionally turned it off which I know some people do, I just thought I’d let you know!
i know, still can’t seem to get it to work on their end
Have you tried her dry shampoo? Thoughts If so? Thanks!!
i haven’t tried it yet! i have it but i still need to use it!
How was the dry shampoo?
i love it!
Do you use the sensitive one or the normal deodorant? I’m looking to try this out but am unsure if I should try the sensitive one or normal deodorant first.
i use the normal one
Thank you so much for this post. I have tried multiple “natural” deodorants. I even tried Young Living Thieves toothpaste from recommendations and every time I get a rash. I am going to bite the bullet and try one more hoping that the rash stays away! You rock!
Hope you love it, Corinne! Let us know if you have any questions!
Thank you so much for this post! I am also excessively sweaty , so I am grateful to find out something has worked for someone in the same situation as myself. Have you by chance ever tried the deodorants made by Primal Pit Paste? I am wondering how Primally Pure brand compares to that one?? It’s important to me to use a non-toxic deodorant, but unfortunately the ones from Primal Pit Paste give me a rash (even the unscented “light” version does) and I feel it doesn’t help me with odor control very well either. Based off of your experience, it sounds like Primally Pure may be worth a try… but I was just curious if you tried Primal Pit Paste and found that Primally Pure worked better for you? Thanks again!
yes, that was the first natural deodorant i used and i loved it at first but then i got a rash and it stopped working as well and i would smell. i’m not trying to put that company down, i just prefer Primally Pure way more
Hi. Juli, I’m definately going to try this deodorant, & possibly some of their other products, thank you so much for posting this. Ive recently been diagnosed with a myriad of serious autoimmunity. Im talking Lupus, Sjorgrens, & other things. I was just thinking yesterday about switching to more natural products, so this is very timely, how did you know I needed this, youre amazing!
Also, jusst FYI, you are now a huge part of my healing journey; i plan on purchasing your latest cookbook today, & ive been looking @ your blog for over a year now & just love your recipes.! I was wondering though, if there were any books that you can recommend that explain how to do all of the cross fit exercises that you do, as I just dont have the time to look all of them up on YouTube ?
Thank you again & hope youre having a great day today!
Jen
im not totally sure about that. there is a book that i recently worked on with a friend called the Fed & Fit Book where it has many of the movements i do along with workouts within the book!
This deodorant is my favorite too! I was constantly getting crazy rashes from my store bought kind; switched to Primally Pure and cleared right up! The. Best.
So happy to hear that Lindsey! 🙂
