That’s my excited face.
Oh sh*t. I can’t even hold it in. Word vomit is about to happen. I’M WRITING MY FIRST COOKBOOK!!
I’m literally tearing up just thinking about this. I’ve wanted this for so long and have gone back and forth about how I would accomplish this goal. But once I was approached by Scribe Publishing, I knew it was the right fit. Not only is the Publisher a CrossFitter as well, but she’s a paleo-er who gets my sense of humor and isn’t afraid of what I have to say. She’s so awesome.
I hadn’t thought about a writing a cookbook since my recipes are free over the internet, until readers began to ask for one. Which was very cool. It’s amazing people would actually want to purchase something when they can get it all free online. So really, I’m writing this cookbook for all of you who have supported me and wanted to show that support by purchasing a cookbook. So this cookbook will feature my favorite PaleOMG recipes along with many new recipes you won’t be able to find on the blog. Already have some good stuff for you!!
So what I want to know is, what are YOU looking for in a paleo cookbook? What is helpful to you and what would make your life easier in a paleo cookbook? Please leave your comments below and give your ideas because I’m making this cookbook for YOU all!
ANNNNNNND, omg, yes there is more. I’m now in the first steps of creating a PaleOMG app. Let’s be real here, obviously I am not the person doing it, I know nothing about anything…except sweets, but my good friend Peter who also put my website together for me, is doing the job. He’s amazing and spectacular so I’m trusting him to create something wonderful. BUT I want and need to know what you are looking for in a paleo app. I don’t do apps, I don’t really get them. I downloaded a food porn app once, but I’ve only looked at it once when I was too hungover to get out of bed. True story. So I need to know what people who actually use apps would like to see in a PaleOMG app?
Are you mad because there isn’t a recipe? Don’t you worry, there will be plenty all week!

I am so happy for you and will be purchasing your cookbook! The thing I love about your recipes (and please don’t lose this) is that you use “normal” ingredients and it’s not complicated to follow your directions. Your are just this normal girl who cooks great Paleo stuff and I so love you:)
Not sure it is posted in the thousands of comments above (testament to your efforts and achievements for sure), but here are some things that really helped me when I was working in pastry and learning to cook:
– links to ingredients:
websites, stores, pictures, descriptions… anything that can help. not every town has a whole foods type place, and sourcing ingredients is step 1.
– experiences with recipes:
what you recall and learned from related to specific recipes, techniques, etc. thinking back to the first time i made swiss meringue buttercream and threw it out as I didn’t think it set proper. found an article and realized I wasted a pound of butter because I didn’t whip it long enough…. see what I mean?
– substitions list:
One key to baking is knowing what can be subbed, and what can’t. given what I have read about Paleo, I think any effort you can put in to a list of approved or recommended substitutes for non-Paleo foods would help. for example, instead of whipped cream, tempered egg whites with some honey for flavoring. The more you can empower the folks reading your book, the more it will be in their hands.
Last… you clearly found your purpose. Just looking at the volume of comments here is evidence. Force the publishers to let you make this yours… people clearly love you. As far as food goes, everyone loves something with a story. Anytime you can share a story or make a recipe personal jump on it. That’s what separtes a list of ingredients from a timeless book… that happens to be about an incredible person and her voyage through life!
It’s awesome and refreshing to see someone succeed through hardwork, dedication, and passion! Congratulations and good luck with the book!
Keep your personality shining through and the book is sure to be a hit!
Two suggestions: 1) Excellent index that lists major food items and the recipes and pages that use that particular thing. For instance if I have cauliflower in the fridge that I need to use, I can go to a cauliflower heading and it will list name of recipes and page number that include cauliflower. 2) Spice index. Spices are expensive and create a cupboard cluster-mess (or insert other 4-letter word). I have seemingly hundreds that I’ve bought for one particular recipe and never used again. I’d love a Spice Index with a heading for each with a list of recipes and page numbers that use them. That will let me decide if I want to buy something for just one or two recipes. Or, when I need to use up that damn Chinese Five Spice, I have a go-to list to get it done!
Thanks, Juli, for all you do! I look forward to your posts every day!
sounds great! 2 things:
1. a translation bit for those of us in the UK. We don’t know what zucchini is!!!
2. Alternative ingredients? I hate sprouts.
Yay! I’ve been hoping the cookbook would happen. Pretty much everyone at my gym reads your blog so I expect most will buy the cookbook too. I know I’ll get a few for myself and family and the library at the gym.
I started reading the comments to see if anyone else already asked but with 250+ comments I lost focus so… Protein/carb/fat breakdown of the meal and/or per serving for us Zoners would be great.
The idea someone posted about a small flipbook kind of picture of you dancing at the bottom of the page would be awesome!
Most importantly though, be you. The Again Faster/ CF Journal videos with you being you (tank, headband, awesome silly) are way better than the ones that you were all serious in. Not that they weren’t all great, just the later ‘Juli-fied’ ones are better.
Congratulations on all the success. You’re great and deserve it all!
Pictures! I won’t buy a cookbook if there are no pictures of the finished recipe. It has to LOOK good, it has to make me look at it and say “mmmm, that’s what I’m going to make for dinner”.
Congrats!! I will so buy your cookbook. I say keep the ingredients simple. Don’t use a bunch of random stuff normal people just don’t have an a day to day basis. And keep it funny.
Oh, how about some kind of basic info for baking with coconut and nut flours? Like ratios with liquid.
I totally screwed up making cinnamon muffins once trying to use almond flour instead of coconut flour (rookie move). The result was still tasty though, like an egg french toast in the shape of a muffin.
Exciting! Congrats! Lots of pix… where to get things… like I had never heard of coconut aminos, coconut butter, sunbutter or a mandoline before your site/recipies… substitutions you can use… like sometimes you say any nut butter… but then you already say that so? duh. And yeah – keep your stories!!! Prolly hundreds of others said all this already too….
Can’t wait! I will absolutely buy your cookbook!! When can we pre-order? grin.
SO happy for you!! Congratulations!!! I will definitely be buying this 🙂 Would love if you had a section about the best, quick meals to have after a hard workout. I find that I’m always starving, and want to eat something as quickly as possible that will help me recover. Also, dessert recipes for days and I love the spaghetti squash recipes! Maybe a section of just different sauces you can make?
You rock
I’m super excited for this. you make so many delicious looking treats. my daughter (10) wants to be a pastry chef and wants to practice but I can’t allow most of the ingredients that she needs in the house. this will be great for her to practice from.
