You guys. Sometimes internships are really important. And helpful for people who are entering the real world. But the place I’m not comfortable with having an intern is during my annual pap. Yep, that’s how I’m starting this blog post. A couple weeks ago, I had literally the most awkward pap of my life. Usually, they take like 5 minutes. With an intern there, it took almost 20 minutes. 20 minutes with 2 people gazing into my soul. No ok. She couldn’t even find the one thing she was looking for up there. They kept telling me to just relax. Um, ma’ams, you’re asking me to relax when you have 4 eyes searching for an object that seems foreign to you? You’re high. I’m requesting no intern next year. She will have to learn anatomy on another human.
Let’s catch up! About stuff other than my pap. Sorry I haven’t had a ton of new recipes for you recently! With my traveling schedule along with working on a new project for you guys, my creativity hasn’t been at an all time high. But don’t you worry, that will change before you know it and all my attention will be on you guys, you needy only child. Oh wait, that’s me. Coming up with new recipes is just hard sometimes. I feel like I’ve made everything possible within paleo’s boring perimeters, but then thankfully I pull something new out of my ass.
Other things that have been happening: I’ve started to look for a house to actually buy. Such a grown up thing to do. From 2006 to today, I’ve lived in 7 different apartments/homes, all renting. Nowadays, I live in one of the hip and up-and-coming neighborhoods. Up-and-coming means people who are shooting up and tripping balls are around the corner, but you still pay a lot for your apartment. It doesn’t make much sense, but I do have an exciting nightlife outside of my back door. Sadly, I’m not much into nightlife anymore. I’m in to sleeping. Sleeping is pretty much the greatest thing of all time. But people are partying until 2am then work traffic picks up at 6am, that gives a night silence of 4 hours. Which is usually interrupted by sirens for the people that were shooting up all night on the street corner. You get what I’m sayin’? I need suburbs. Not like the hills of Golden suburbs, because I grew up in a neighborhood like that, but suburbs that are still at least 10 minutes from downtown. It makes me feel less old that way. I’ll probably never drive downtown, but knowing that I could, makes me feel like I’m not being an old fart. I just can’t wait to walk Jackson around a neighborhood that I don’t constantly have to pull him away from someone’s vomit. It’s the little things.
Don’t you hate when you google something you don’t want other people to see, then it pops up on one of the ads of a website you’re looking at? The worst. Thank the lord I’m not googling STD’s. My pap intern would have been real freaked out. Too far?

I just closed on my first house earlier this month! Best decision I’ve ever made. I love it so far! 🙂 Not only did I buy a house, I built one! Talk about taking a huge leap. Good luck in your search.
Oh yeah, one time I was having a coloposcopy and the dr brought the intern in without even asking me! That was fun times. Haven’t been besieged with interns at my current doctor’s office.
Good luck with the house hunting!
Looks delicious! Do you think I’d be able to leave the protein powder out with similar results?
You can, I did and they were still tasty!
Sorry to hear about your awkward pap experience. Say no to interns, got it.
The burbs aren’t all that bad, especially when your partying days are behind you. Best of luck house hunting!
My first gyno appt ever involved an intern so I know exactly what you’re saying. I’ve had a number of bad intern/resident experiences too while pregnant, I need to just learn to say no thanks!
And this recipe looks awesome since I have both pumkin and formulx handy and the kids are requesting treats, as usual. Will be making these before the week is done. Thanks for another great one.
Good luck with your house hunting 🙂 It’s actually my 5-year house anniversary here in the suburbs of NJ and I seriously can’t believe it’s been that long. Still feels new in some ways.
Can I substitute the protein powder with anything?
LOL. No intern next visit for SURE! That sounds borderline humiliating. My first pap was at a youth clinic. Bad. Idea. First off, I swear she told me to take off ALL my clothes for the pap, so I just thought ‘oh, maybe she is doing a breast exam as well?’. Nope, I just heard wrong. She was laughing when she came in to find I took off a little more than just my pants (I was mortified). Not only that, but I swear she didn’t know what she was doing because that did not need to hurt as much as it did!! The pain was so bad I had to choke back tears throughout the longer than usual exam. The next time I had my pap done by a registered gyno, I barely felt anything. I was happily surprised when she said everything was done 2 minutes later. That’s more like it!
Anyway, about the recipe… Definitely something I will make for a post workout snackie! Yum! (These two comments seem awkward being placed in the same response, but eh, it is what it is) 🙂
Pumpkin + Chocolate, yes Please!
Do you think that these would turn out without the coconut sugar?
p.s. I’m glad that I’m not the only one who had that exact experience with a OBGYN intern.
Making these TONIGHT! Thank you! So glad i have pumpkin in the house.
I feel like that’s something they should ask you if you’re comfortable with before just having some random person in the room with you. My doctor does have a nurse present during it just because he is a guy and I think it’s to keep them safe in case anyone says something inappropriate went on. So I kind of appreciate that.
On subjects other than people staring at my vajayjay, I tried the formulx chocolate protein powder and am in LOVE. Seriously delicious and it doesn’t taste chalky at all.
