When your best friend goes to Jamba Juice and gets a pumpkin pie protein smoothie with almond milk and you think about that protein smoothie for 2 weeks straight…you make yourself a gosh damn pumpkin pie smoothie at home, by yourself, watching the cooking channel, while cleaning. Because well, homemade is always better. And hella cheaper. Gotta pinch my pennies where I can. Amirightoramiright?

Sooooo are you guys as addicted to Narcos as I am? I can’t stop watching it. Then I dream about it. Which means my dreams have a lot of guns in them. Am I an idiot for not knowing the full story of Pablo Escobar? This is what I knew about him: he was big into drugs. But I have friends that are big into drugs too and there are no shows written about them. Why didn’t they teach us this crazy sh*t in history classes? I would have kicked ass at those tests. Every single episode I’m in shock at what he did and what he got away with. And that he had so much money that he needed to bury some of it. Bury. I guess it’s true though, mo’ money, mo’ problems. That’s where the saying came from, huh?

Are you guys on this whole buyingallyourchristmaspresentsbeforehalloween train? I HATE buying gifts for the holidays. The pressure of finding the perfect gift every.single.year is too much for me. So then I don’t buy anything and tell my friends that my love should be enough. It’s not. I have no friends. Why can’t people just say, “Hey friend, what’s your budget? Cool, buy me this.” and it still be considered a thoughtful gift? Those rules should be written somewhere. Especially since we are having Christmas at our new house this year. That means I have to think of thoughtful gifts, make food for everyone AND think of fun activities to keep the family entertained. This is too much pressure. I can’t. I just can’t.

Are there any Nebraska people reading this? I need your help. I’m heading to Omaha next week. Got any good restaurants out there for me to try? We are trying to figure out things to do and all I can think of is food. Obviously.

      1. Camisha says:

Thanks Juli. I don’t have yours to compare it to but I made it yesterday and it came out great. Today I added some nutmeg. Thanks for the yummy recipes.

  2. Nicole says:

I’ve never tried protein powder before, I will get the same kind you use but do you think it will mess with my stomach? The recipe only calls for a scoop but like I said I’ve never tried it before so just wanted to ask your opinion 🙂

    1. juli says:

formula doesn’t mess with my stomach, that’s why i use it and recommend it! i have no idea what it will do to your stomach though…

  3. erin says:

hey juli! in your opinion are there any good alternatives to frozen bananas for smoothies? it’s times like these i really wish i could eat them, as they are, the perfect smoothie ingredient. 🙁

    1. juli says:

my pumpkin frappe in my book i think is the best way to do it. you can blend in ice instead of a banana, but it will get watery. but if you use the recipe in my book, you don’t get that watery texture!!

This looks amazing! But im concerned of the whey protein you used. It contains dairy, guargum, artificial sugars etc all which I thought are not paleo. I can not consume fillers and dairy and sugar is there any other proteins that you recoomend besides hydrolyzed collagen which i use.

    1. juli says:

i don’t have any for you, but i’m sure you could find some with a little google searching!

    2. Candi says:

      Hey Sorimar,

Ora Organics Vegan Protein Powder is what I use, gluten free and no sugars, no dairy….I used it for 3 years so far SOOO good. Especially with Julie’s chcolate blueberry smoothie I used this protein powder in it. I am on a very strict diet. I promise you will love Ora Organics 🙂

      1. Candi says:

  6. Bailey says:

    Hi Juli,

Do you have any suggestions for what brand of almond milk to use? I’m dying to try this out!

    1. juli says:

i make my own, i have recipe for it in my new book Juli Bauer’s Paleo Cookbook, but if you are going to buy some, just find the brand with the least amount of additives in it

  7. Sammy says:

Made this yesterday and OMG! Ha, the name of your blog… it’s all hitting me now!!! Anyway it was amazing!! I did it without the banana since i didn’t have any at home and it was soooooo good, I many never add the banana to it!! Love this!!!

    1. juli says:

      glad you loved it!!

  8. Courtney says:

So going to try this! For those of you who can’t eat bananas, half an avocado makes for an amazing smoothie. It’s an awesome healthy fat, and makes the smoothie so thick, smooth, and creamy. I much prefer it to bananas 🙂

    1. Patty says:

I am allergic to both banana and avocado, would you happen to know of a different substitute?

  9. Kayla says:

Looks like a yummy smoothie! How did it compare to Jamba Juice??

    1. juli says:

i like mine better honestly, but isn’t homemade always a little better?!

  10. Debbie says:

I made this tonight without the protein powder, so not sure what it would taste like with it but….. a drum roll please, this was fantastic. I had all the ingredients except the powder so that made it even better. Num num.
