Sorry if my emotional post the other day was a bit too intense for your taste. I was flying back from California on my delayed flight and was raging with too much sugar. I definitely was telling the truth, though. So I appreciate all who listened and commented back. It’s amazing to read some of those posts and se of the people who go through the same frustrations. You guys are so great.

Let’s talk about lighter topics though. Like my pedicures that are not getting their money’s worth. I know I’m a terrible runner. I really am. My hips and ankles are screwed up from gosh knows what, so one of my ankles collapses in when I run. Not a good look, or feeling. It’s actually even painful for me to stand up on a bike in spin class because my feet go numb. How crazy is that? Anywho. I think because I suck at running so much, my feet are looking worse and worse. I get a pedicure and 3 days later, I need another one. Don’t get me wrong, my toenails look pretty in pink, but when you look underneath, it’s a whole different story. Gross. I need a miracle pedicure. Or new hips.

I hate how many spots I miss while shaving my legs. What’s the point.

So I’m going on a little vacation next week for the 4th of July. Well, kind of. I wouldn’t call it a vacation because it’s not really my style. It includes camping. And well, I haven’t been camping in a loooong time. Because camping isn’t really my thing. I prefer using my own bathroom. Just personal preference. But I’m being open to trying new things. And we are camping right next to a lake, which is way more fun. So I can’t really complain. I’ll be surrounded by some pretty rad friends. Well now I’m getting excited.

Sooooo guess what?!? I have new apparel! A few people have been asking about my apparel and I finally have new stuff for you!! So exciting. I have headbands, tanks, tshirts, long sleeve shirts, and slouchy sweatshirts. AND multiple colors!! Be sure to check them out on WOD Love! Then you can wear them cool places, like the gym, or the mall, or TO THE GAMES. That would be so cool! Okbye.

I’m sure you’ve heard this – but it sounds like your shoes may be too small. For running, I have to go up a size and half [YIKES] Used to only go up one size, but still experienced toenail nasties and numb feet so a friend advised I go up another half size. Boom, all better. Hope you find what works for you soon 🙂

Sorry if this comes across as judgmental, but kind of tying in to yesterday’s post, if you don’t like running AND you have gimpy hip and ankle joints AND it’s causing you actual pain, why do it? I am in my early 30s and the difference between how my body recovered when I was 25 and how my body recovers now is HUGE. Trust me when I say that shit only gets worse. Again, I don’t want to sound judgmental but I’m a huge fan of yours and it sounds like you’re setting yourself up for injury by pushing your body too hard. I speak from experience!

Great looking salad and just the sort of recipe I like….quick and easy!

Have fun camping and don’t forget the mosquito repellent.

Yup, definitely need bigger shoes! Find a really good running store and get fitted. They can watch how you run and find a good shoe that works for you. A good running shoe makes a world of difference! You may also benefit from orthotics (I know, such an “old” person thing) if anything at least try super feet insoles

if youre having problems with your spin shoes/an ankle thats funky, go into a bike shop that sells specialized bikes in your area, and they carry shims to go under your insole that can improve your ankle alignment on your bike! I have them in my bike shoes and it’s made a big diff for my shittay ankles

    Juli,
About your post yesterday – hang in there. Learning how to accept yourself as you are is a life long thing. Maybe it could help to think about yourself one year from now, or five years from now, and think about what you want to look back on – what would you like to see in your life – and then go for that. And, whenever I overeat (like I’m doing right now because I’m stressed about a big move for my family)… I feel rotten, both physically and psychologically. But, the point is, I don’t think I know any woman who doesn’t struggle with her body image at some point. I guess I’m trying to learn to be really grateful for my health and that I can move and eat and enjoy food, and not worry too much about the rest. The only one who is looking at me critically is myself. I don’t want to be shallow and thinking about myself and what I look like all the time. I don’t want to miss the opportunity to make someone else’s life a bit brighter because I was too busy complaining about how I look/feel. Easier said than done – that’s for sure. But, when I stop looking in the mirror and start looking at everyone around me, and just agree to accept myself, I take a step in the right direction. I love your blog Juli and your recipes are absolutely fantastic. Keep on keeping on. You inspire many people!

Can’t wait to make this! Got a similar version of this recipe in my CSA box yesterday…along with a massive watermelon. Nom-nom. Looks perfect for our 106* weather today!

I went camping last weekend…on the lake. I live 15 minutes from a beautiful lake 🙂 it was fanfreakingtastic! I hope you enjoy your trip, I grew up camping on the lake and I’m passing it on to my kids. I’ve always camped in a tent though. The kids and the husband want a camper. I’m opposed…”glamping” is just not the same :/ anywho…I ate like complete shit the whole weekend because its just a pain in the ass eating paleo on a camping trip! On the downside, I’ve felt like crap all week and I’m just now recovering. Thank goodness I’ll have some down time at the pool with friends this weekend. 🙂 I’ll be adding this recipe to the menu for tomorrow’s festivities!

I miss so many spots shaving my legs too! I always do the test of running my hand up and down my leg but unless I am vigilant I always miss a spot!

  10. Sarah says:

For your running woes…..go to a specialty running store, get fitted for the right type of shoe for your feet (probably a size bigger than normal), be prepared to spend a lot of money, but then you know what kind of shoe you really need and it usually makes all the different. After that, search online for last year’s model of the same shoe and you are golden! I lost all my toe nails before doing this and haven’t lost one since (gross, I know – but now my feet are pretty). If you have already done this, I’m no help 🙂
