Hello from Aruba!! I had this trip come up last minute and I’m so so glad I said yes because this has been one of my favorite trips to date. This island is absolute perfection. And they are all about health here. It’s been so easy to stay in shape (other than the gelato pops I’ve been getting into lol!!) and eat healthy throughout our long weekend here. Our hotel even has a 2 floor gym on the property! So freaking cool!
Since I’ve been on this trip, I’ve started every morning with some sort of exercise. First it was paddle board yoga, then a 5k, and this morning I did a CrossFit style workout in the gym. Since I’ve been traveling so much, I’ve had a slightly harder time staying on track with my diet and exercise regimen. I still eat healthy whenever I’m traveling, but there is always a dessert or a cocktail that’s calling my name, especially knowing that I may never come back to this exact same spot. Because of that, I know I’m not going to be in my best shape. And that’s something I have to be ok with.
Since I know I won’t be my absolute best when I’m traveling, I come up with a game plan for when I get home so I can feel my best in a few short days. I start writing down what days I’ll be working out and the times as well, I figure out a grocery list to make sure the fridge is stock piled with vegetables and clean protein, and start chugging water. With a few days back at home, back to my schedule, and back to a regimen, I always know that I’ll be able to get back on track.
Life will constantly throw you curve balls when it comes to your body, your diet, and your lifestyle. So you just have to roll with the punches. I want to enjoy life to the fullest while I’m traveling because I don’t know how long traveling consistently will be a part of my life. So for now, I’ll enjoy the dessert on the beach then get back on track once I’m home. Life isn’t about perfection, it’s about enjoying every moment. And I’m soaking in every minute of it right now.

As a consistent reader for a few years now, it is nice to hear that you don’t always stay on track. I am not paleo, but I am, in general, a pretty healthy eater. I can fall into a mental rut if I have a not great day or two. Now that I am at a weight I’m comfortable it seems like instead of a physical struggle it’s more of a mental struggle to relax and trust that I know now what works for my body and to trust myself more. I guess what I’m trying to say is… It’s nice to not feel alone in that mental struggle and to hear someone else say “That’s something I’m going to have to be ok with.”
Thanks for the honesty and awesome recipes! I’m glad you loved Aruba!
Hi Juli! I cannot wait to hear about Aruba, my husband and I were there on honeymoon 9years ago and are wanting to go back (w the 3 kids!) Looking forward to your review of the Marriott.
Quick diet/nutrition related question, specifically water — how much do you aim to drink per day? I’ve been noticing how much better I feel since I’ve made an effort to drink lots (which for me right now is about 180-200oz daily), and I wonder how much other fitness-minded people are trying to drink? Obviously everyone’s different and varies depending on workout day, but on average!
i try to drink a gallon a day! i’ve been pretty bad with it lately with all the traveling i’ve been doing, but when i’m home, that’s what i strive for because i always feel my best with that much!
Hey Juli! I will be trying out the travel workout tonight! I wanted to reach out to see if you would be able to tell me again the self tanner you use? I have heard it on your podcast a few times, but listening to a few of them I could not find it and I could not find it under your beauty section either! I don’t want to be one of those people that its literally right “there!” haha. Thanks so much!
i love St Tropez tanning lotion! and be sure to use the mitt!
Questions about the tanning lotion– I know you’ve mentioned you sleep in it ( or maybe others have)
1) Once you’ve showered, would you say it locks in the color, i.e. no more coming off on your sheets or light colored clothes?
2) Roughly, if you’re showering your body everyday and working out, how long would you say the color lasts for you?
if you sweat at all when you sleep, it still normally comes off on the sheets to some degrees. i have light grey sheets now and it doesn’t get too bad. and if you are using your own tanner at home, i think it’s definitely good for a solid week before you need to add on more tanner
Perfect! Thank you!
Wow, you look great in that photo! Good for you for realizing that about your body – I’ve come to realize that for myself, that it’s worth it to have a few extra pounds if it means I get to enjoy life a lot more instead of freaking out all the time over what I eat. It’s awesome to see you travelling so much now – I think that’s totally worth not being in your best shape ever – you still are active and look great anyway!
thanks for the kind words April!
