Whenever I travel, most of the time I work out. It just feels good to stay active and it keeps me feeling motivated once I’m back from my trip. But when I am traveling, I don’t put near as much pressure on the workouts that I create. And what I mean by that is that I don’t make them super intensive or long, nor do I create workouts that will leave me very sore. I just move. That’s it. Because the body was made to move and when you’re on a TradeWinds boat sometimes, not a ton of movement is happening if you’re not a diver or snorkeler. So I would wake up early, because I ALWAYS do even on vacation, and I would get a simple workout in while I watched the sunrise. Then I would eat breakfast and go on with my day of fully relaxing, reading, drinking, eating and floating.

And because of that simple movement each day, I can home feeling pretty much like the self that had left a week before. Even with eating dessert every night, drinking some sort of alcohol almost every day, and not eating near enough vegetables; I was able to feel back on track in just a day once I got home. It was super easy to walk into the gym the day after I got back and feel like myself right away.

Vacation was created to help us feel our best after a busy year. And that might mean absolutely no working out for you during your week off. Or that might mean hiking or walking all day or biking a countryside. Whatever is going to make you feel your best on your week off – DO IT. If working out extra hard every day is going to set you up for success during your vacation, then live it up girl. Vacation should be whatever you want it to be. And for me, that was just some sort of movement. You’ll see below that the workouts don’t really look like my usual ones and that was because I was ready to eat breakfast and flat so I kept them short and easy. Hopefully they give you some ideas for when you have a week off with minimal equipment. And just FYI, I just lucky enough that our crew on the boat had kettlebells that we borrowed. That’s the only reason you’re seeing some KB workouts in here and no just bodyweight.

    Hi Juli
I love your blog, the recipes, the workouts. You are a constant source of inspiration in the kitchen and the gym! Just one little thing: please don’t do double leg raises/lowers. This is incredibly bad for your back as it puts enormous strain on the L5 vertebra. There are so many of your other exercises that are great for the abs. I just don’t want your readers getting injured. Kind regards ~ Louise
