Last week I had a bit of a run in with an unhappy woman who emailed me letting me know that I don’t eat enough and that I give off the wrong message when I post what I eat in a day. I try to preface everything I do or say, but there are always things that people interpret the wrong way. And the last thing I want to have is people comparing in a negative light. What’s funny about what I do is that I always have someone saying I eat too much or I eat too little. So which one is it? Well, it’s neither. They are probably just comparing to what THEIR body needs instead of understanding that what MY body needs is completely different. Our life stressors, our schedules, our bodies, our needs, our workouts…they are all different. So why would you compare?
Well, because that’s human nature.
If you think I eat too little, well consider my workouts. Last week, my workouts that I’m actually working the entire time range from 12-30 minutes. So that means I’m working out a max of 30 minutes per day. Max. So if you’re working out 1-3 hours per day, you obviously need a different amount of fuel compared to a person like me who is working out for 30 minutes. If you think I eat too much, well that’s weird. Have you seen the normal American diet lately? Come on, bro.
My point is, stop f*cking comparing. No single person is like you, so why would you compare yourself to someone else? I share what I ate in a day to help inspire you with your own meals or show you that eating clean while traveling is possible or help you see that daily healthy eating habits are possible. It’s not for you to think that you should be eating 10 plantain chips because someone else ate 10. Instead, you think – Oh, maybe I should check out plantain chips for a snack for myself. It’s all about perspective.
Comparison is the the enemy. It eats us lives and hinders our growth. So stop comparing. Stop slowing yourself down. Take responsibility for your own needs, your own body, and your own decisions. That’s going to get you so much farther in life.

I love the “what I ate in a day” posts. People are just jealous of you because you are a talented and successful woman with bangin body. People who are telling you that you don’t eat enough and probably just fat slobs.
Hi Juli,
Same here! I’ve had people tell me both: I need to eat more, I need to eat less. Whatever! I just eat the amount of food I need at the moment. I eat very healthy so I don’t worry about portions. I know I’m healthy and that’s all that matters.
the worst. i never notice people’s portion size, i’m always focusing on my own food. so strange.
I just wanted to say thank you for continuing to post and disregarding these people who feel the need to criticize everything. It’s so funny that people put in effort to go out of their way and complain about other people’s lives, when they can just disregard any post you post if they get offended or ticked by it. Thank you for doing what you do. You’ve been helping me find motivation and joining Crossfit and also recovering from a long time troubled eating relationship/low self worth. You rule, people are just silly. Xo.
GOOD WORK!! that’s so awesome you’re trying out cf! i hope you find a gym you love!
“Comparison is the thief of joy.” …. Thank you for posting this. People need to stop comparing … just be you and get after your own life!
Btw .. made the pumpkin latte donuts this weekend and they are.so.good! Thank you!!
yay!!! glad you liked them!
The real question… is how can you only eat 10 plantain chips. #cracksnack
knowing dinner is coming soon lol another meal has to be in the foreseeable future to be able to hold back lol. #bestcrackever
Just please don’t stop posting your meals. It inspires me and gives me ideas!
Thanks!!
Rachel
Please continue to post what you eat. It helps people who have a similar diet ( paleo/gluten free). What I love about your diet is the fact it is balanced. At the end of the day you cannot please everyone and people will always have something to say. You cannot cater things to each person who reads your post. You have to do you. Hopefully people can discern for themselves what is right for them with out making s big things of it.
Agree with Alaina! Long time reader, but first time commenter. I’d just ignore those comments/emails etc. Some people are unhappy, and deal with it by lashing out.
On a more positive note, I got a chance to listen to your 2 podcasts this morning. Nice work! I really enjoyed your “voice” in it. Very sincere and humble and open. GREAT job. Please keep them up.
Love your blog and love all the details into your daily life – meals, workouts, clothes etc. I don’t always agree with everything you write or say, but I’m still a big fan! You can be you. Your authenticity is what I love. I have a feeling every blogger deals with these “negative Nancy’s”. So know that you aren’t alone!
thanks for the support, sharon!
Hey Juli! Just wondering if you have continued going to barre classes at all, or if you ended up seeing any different results from varying your workouts a bit. I know you posted on this a while back, so I may have missed hearing why you haven’t been going as much. Just curious!
i haven’t been able to go to barre classes lately just because i’ve been traveling non-stop for the past two months so when i am in town, i want to get my favorite workouts in, which is crossfit. i definitely saw small changes, but i wasn’t going frequently enough to really know how or what changes were occurring. but i definitely liked going to the classes, i just love my crossfit gym the most!
Ah I know the pain of having everyone judging your eating habits! I work at a cafe were the other staff love to tell me I’m ‘so lucky’ to be able to eat as much as I do. I don’t bother pointing out that most of my plate is vegetables, and maybe they should skip the bread in favour of veggies haha.
But seriously, I love seeing your ‘what I ate in a day’ as you actually seem to eat a decent amor andnt of food (and all the nutrients that go with that!) unlike a lot of other bloggers/instagrammers who seem to survive of salad!
You clearly have the whole listening to your body thing down pat 🙂
I’m currently having to increase my energy intake and stop crossfit to to try and fix some hormone issues from years of overtraining, and having people judging my body/food intake certainly is not fun, so I’m definitely feeling your frustration!
