Well I feel robbed of my time today. And yesterday. Completely robbed! Damn you daylight savings time! You’re throwing me off and wrecking my mood. Luckily I’m heading to the gym soon to rid myself of the grumpiness and get back my schedule. Minus having to do the CF Open 17.3 workout today. Balls.

It’s been a crazy couple of days. I left for LA on Thursday last week, went to Expo West (a natural products expo) on Thursday and Friday, then dealt with the insanity of travel yesterday. All of this means I walked a sh*t ton, tried more snacks then I ever need to eat in my lifetime, walked around more people than I’d ever like to, and dealt with LAX, aka Hell. I know I sound like I’m complaining, but I’m actually not. It was a really great weekend that was spent with two of my favorite friends that I rarely get to see, in a new experience that I can’t wait to go back to next year.

It was such a cool experience, but it’s definitely an experience that’s tough on your health. Even though you’re at an expo that has all natural products and up-and-coming businesses, you’re still surrounded my sugar and excess salt and unneeded daily food. We would stop by one booth, try their new nut and fruit ball creation then walk 5 feet to another booth and have almost the same thing. Within 5 minutes of being at the show, you were sugar buzzed and ready for a nap. It reminded me of what people often talk about at my gym: they have to take clients out and one drink turns into many because they are trying to build that relationship. Well I was at this expo, trying to chat with companies and find out what they had to offer, so I had a hard time saying no to their product. Well one product turns into 10 which turns into 20, and before you know it, you’re sugar wasted and feeling like crap.

This is the perfect reminder that you can only control so much in life. But when you can control it, get back on track. When I wasn’t at the expo, I was loading up on water and trying to get vegetables anywhere I could. And when I could get a workout in, I did it. The workout wasn’t perfect, the meals weren’t perfect, and my water habits weren’t perfect, but all those better decisions were helping me dig myself out of sugar addiction and get back on the road to recovery come Monday. And here Monday is, and I’m ready to get back to my usual self.

We all have moments in our lives where we indulge more, but those moments don’t define us. They just paint a picture of how we will deal with that situation the next time it comes around. So stop moping about a poor food decision or not getting a workout in, just get back on track today, right now, this very second! The quicker you embrace the future instead of wallowing in the past, the more you will enjoy your life, no matter what stage you are at!

    Juli,

I’ve read about the style of the OTF classes. I’m curious–are you able to post anything more specific about what workouts you complete in the classes without violating any of their possible copyrights, or whatever?

I’d just love to know how you rotate(in general) between rowing, treadmill, strength circuits. I’m thinking about joining a class, but want to hear more reviews.

    Thanks!

Lilly, I tried OTF bc of Juli and the first visit is free with no commitment. It is so worth it. You do half hour on treadmill and then the other 30 min strength training and sometimes u go between the rowers and strength training exercises. Place has a cool orange glow and loud great music plus the screens with your monitors info listed. It’s worth going to. I am so happy that I read about it on this blog!

HI Lilly! Im a future coach for OTF in Florida! The classes are different every single time.. they rotate between a treadmill, rower and strength. Sometimes its treadmill/rower and then strength, sometimes its treadmill, strength/row, etc. There are endurance days with longer runs/rows and higher reps on strength, and there are power days with shorter bursts/sprints and lower reps for strength but incorporates jumping etc. The energy is super high, the music is always great and the screen with everyone’s heart rates is encouraging some friendly competition It’s definitely worth a try- your first class is free 🙂 Hope that helps!

just like christie said – every day is different, but you always get time on the treadmill, rower and lifting weights. just an example (not an exact class since i can’t remember exact ones):
      10 minute warm-up
15 minutes on the treadmill – 2 minutes jog, 1 minute sprint, 1 minute jog, 30 sec sprint, and so on. they tell you want to do
15 minutes in the weight room – dumbbell work, core work, TRX work. they explain all the movements and give you all the reps to follow
15 minutes on rower – 100m row, 20 lunges ball, 200m run, 20 lunges, and so on.
again, this is not exact whatsoever, but a slight brief down of what it looks like

Oh man, Juli! Tough Monday after expo, right!? I was working a few supplement and body care booths, and since there is literally no time or place to sit down and eat, all I could do was grab samples at any booth close to me. I was so hungry on Friday I was grabbing snacks without even looking to see what they were. I feel like crap today but trying so hard to remind myself that sometimes situations like that are out of our control and you just gotta get back at healthy eating and working at as soon as you can. What a weekend, right?

    1. juli says:

totally! i feel so much better getting back to normal meals and no snacking on sugar lol!

How about “Pi Day” tomorrow at the office… here try my pie, and now try mine. Who’s is better?
What is this, 5th grade? I’m still a sucker.

Love these posts of yours. Still trying to keep chugging along with my negative hour in the day, too.

    1. juli says:

i would be too! how do you say no to pie!?

Hi! My boyfriend is relocating to the Denver area for school and I will likely be moving there in the next year or so with him. What are the best parts of the city for a mid-20s person to live in?

    1. juli says:

uptown, cap hill, highlands, lohi, wash park

  5. Katie says:

Hi Juli! Here is a super random question I have been meaning to ask you, because you are the queen of peep-toe booties. 🙂

Do you ever have issues with the seam/edge of the toe opening rubbing blisters on the tops of your toes? I bought a really cute pair, but they kill my big toes. Suggestions?

    1. juli says:

not usually BUT i’m not one to wear those types of shoes all day long. not really i have a solution, i’m sorry!

  6. Healthy Lifestyle says:

You’re always such an encouragement Juli, and it’s so important to realize, just because the days don’t go as expected, or we “indulge” in maybe a bit more than we intended, just get back on track. The world will still turn, and it’s just a minor set back.

We finally invested in some equipment for the home, and set up a 16 x 24 area. It feels good to not have to go to the gym, but you do have to push yourself to stay dedicated. But it’s so worth it when you look back at the end of the week.

LAX is “hell”, did get a good laugh at your descriptions! You go gal!!!

  7. Kylie says:

Juli how do you get back on track after a sort of “binge” weekend? I find it difficult and even when I eat well it’s like I am either still starving or just not satisfied!! Any tips would be great!

Hi Julie! Since tomorrow is Thursday I realize I might be too late with my podcast question (and I’m sorry this isn’t even in the right spot) but, I am wondering if you have ever dealt with or seen anyone go through extreme emotions while controlling portion sizes or cutting back on calories. I have been trying to get back to where I want to be for the past few months and I haven’t seen a budge in my weight. I know the scale is the devil but I eat my recommended calories based off my height, weight, and workouts per week in order to lose and don’t see a change! I feel my muscles getting back to where they used to be but I am not slimming down or seeing any actual definition! Whenever I cut my calories back by about 200 I feel completely depressed! Like terrible sad thoughts all the time. My boyfriend even recognizes my change in mood and energy. I eat carbs too! Sweet potatoes, rice, even oats, and good protein and fats! I feel like every time I see someone go through weight loss and lifestyle change they talk about their increase in energy and how happy they are and I can’t seem to see any changes unless I put myself through mental hell! What is your advice on this and how would you go about staying happy and motivated when you can’t see your work pay off?

Thanks for brightening my days with your podcast and posts!
