Good morning and happy Monday!! I’m already in a good mood today because I woke up in my own bed finally after 4 days in Aspen. I went to the Food & Wine Classic and spent most of my days at the American Express Platinum House that had all sorts of fun activities going on during the day…and night! I’ll be writing an entire post about that on the blog this week but I did want to talk about one of the fitness activities they had going on at the AMEX house – Soul Cycle! We don’t have Soul Cycle in Colorado quite yet (it’s coming in 2018) so it was fun to finally try it and see what it’s all about. I’ve done Cyclebar before which has a similar feeling and I’ve done all sorts of spin classes, as well. But these Soul Cycle classes were definitely a little different just because they were on top of Aspen mountain, on the balcony of a seriously HUGE mansion. Which was pretty damn cool. What I love about Soul Cycle and Cyclebar classes is they go by WAY faster than normal spin classes, so it’s over before you know it. What I don’t love about it…is it’s spin. I just don’t love being stuck to one spot being clipped in for almost an hour. I loving moving and jumping and lifting heavier weights. But having those classes first thing in the morning, before we all headed out for 2 days straight to eat and drink the entire day, well that was pretty awesome. Nothing like burning calories before eating all the calories!

How fun that you got to do Soul Cycle outdoors! I don’t have a soul cycle membership (I feel similar to you that it can’t be the ONLY thing I do), but I will say that the quality of the class greatly depends on the instructor. I live in the DC metro and we have tons of studios, but my favorite class was one I took in Manhattan Beach, California. I’m guessing there is a lot of competition in Cali to be the best soulcycle instructor. The class was so fun, and at one point the instructor was dancing around the room. It sounds ridiculous but she was a legit DJ and the music was AMAZING. I still enjoy their classes but I’ve been to a few boring ones where the instructor doesn’t even talk and pump you up and the music was just OK.

Anyway, hope you had a great trip to Aspen! Can’t wait to hear what celebrity chefs you met 🙂

Hi Christina – I just searched last night to see what type of fitness studios were available in Manhattan beach because we are vacationing there in a few weeks. I have only been to one Soul Cycle class before, but I figured I would try it again and then saw your post – any chance you know the instructors name? Thanks!

what a great week! I have to know more details about SoulCycle coming to Colorado. I was a devout rider in LA when I lived there, and I can’t find any confirmed news about a Colorado studio coming in 2018. Please dish the details!!!

you realize that Aspen is in Colorado, right? 🙂 It DOES have a totally different feel though

    1. juli says:

yes i understand that Aspen is in Colorado. Soul Cycle is still not here in Colorado. it was a pop-up soul cycle class, not a studio

I’m a long time follower of your blog and have recently been listening to (okay binging is more appropriate of a term) to the PaleOMG podcast. Since listening to you talk about Orange Theory Fitness and because a new studio just opened in my town, I decided to give it a try. After just one class, I knew this was going to be part of my workout regime. Thanks for being so awesome!

    HI Julie!!!
I need your help/advice. 🙂 My husband and I are taking a trip to Ireland in September, and are trying to pack light. I want to be able to have one pair of shoes that I can wear walking around sightseeing,,but also that would work for quick workouts. I would love your recommendations for a good pair of athletic shoes that can be styled with jeans and leggings, but also that I can use to workout in (bodyweight excercises/short runs). ANy recommendations for an awesome versatile shoe?

    Cheers,
    Lauren
