Helloooooooo!! I’m officially back from vacation and feeling slightly rested. Those long travel days back stress me ouuuuut. We had a 3 or 4 hour flight from Guadeloupe to Miami then we spent the night in Miami before we had a 4 hour flight back home. But that 4 hour flight home at 6am included someone who ate the airport food and blessed us with their flatulence for the entire 4 hours. What is wrong with people? Don’t eat food that makes you feel like sh*t, drink some coffee and go to the bathroom, or hold it in, ya bastard!! Sorry, I slept like sh*t last night and I’m obviously still a bit bitter about that gross human.
ANYWAYS let’s talk about what’s important here on Mondays – FITNESS! Last week I mentioned that I planned to take the entire week off of working out when I got to Guadeloupe for our week long vacation, but after 2 days off, I was majorly craving movement. On these boat trips, I don’t snorkel or dive, so all I really do is eat, drink, float or tan. And that’s not a great combination for feeling my best, especially while in a swimsuit all week long. The last few weeks leading up to my birthday included lots of drinks and sugar and it really messed with my brain and my body, as well. Along with doing CrossFit less – my body just hasn’t felt like my own.
Vacation should really be whatever you want it to be. If you don’t want to work out, don’t! If you do want to work out, do it! You deserve to have the vacation you envision and a vacation that leaves you feeling your best. For me, this vacation gave me the ability to move and feel better when I came back. I would wake up early in the morning to do a workout and it made me feel more connected to my core and got my endorphins going. And I love feeling more like myself, especially when I’m trying to enjoy the little moments I’ll never get back!
Don’t forget that your body needs rest and relaxation, but find what that looks like for you whenever you travel or go on vacation! You deserve to feel your best before, during and after your vacation!

I totally agree vacation should be whatever you want it to me! Sometimes movement is part of the vacation like hiking in Hawaii and sometimes I need to create a little movement! Looks like you had a wonderful time! Great do anywhere workouts can’t wait to try some out!
Great to hear you enjoyed your birthday! I always feel better if I workout on vacation, even if it’s only 20 minutes. My family sleep later than me anyway so I’m normally finished my workout by the time they wake up. Better than laying in bed listening to my husband snore. I find I enjoy food on vacation more if I exercise. Otherwise I start feeling sluggish. I used to take a break from working out when on vacation but now I just do it as needed. I’m happy to take a few days to a week off when I’m at home if my body needs recovery. I’ve been following your blog for a while and you’ve helped me get into a healthier mindset when it comes to rest and recovery.
THIS!! Everything Kate said ????
YES! i was just visiting with a friend about this exact thing this weekend while in KC for my birthday. Even if i don’t necessarily feel like working out, i always feel way better after!
Totally agree about vacation – it’s your vacation, do what makes you feel best! I am going on vacation next week and I’m hoping to find he balance between rest and workouts. Question for you though – how do you prevent bloating on vaca when you’re out of your normal routine and having more/different drinks and foods than you’re used to?
You are so creative with your workouts! I love it! Thank you so much for tracking and posting your workouts week after week. That’s a lot of work and I really appreciate it. It helps me a ton when I’m traveling or don’t feel like going into my crossfit gym, all I have to do is look up the workouts you post. Thanks again girl!
Omg that person GROSS. That’s so horrible you had to endure that for four hours!! Just ew. Love that workout on the boat though – looks so fun! Burpees have never been so comfortable on that cushion haha
Wow, those are some awesome bodyweight workouts. Loved your boat workout. I agree that a vacation should be whatever you want it to be. Some might use it as a chance to be more active in different ways, and others might need a complete rest so they can return and feel relaxed. I’ve been living ‘location independent’ for 16 months now and the most important thing for me is flexibility with my training. There’s no major set plan; I just find opportunities to be active. I walk wherever I can, and I carry a yoga mat, trigger point ball and resistance band. I try and hike and bike to explore as well.
