Happy Monday, you little fitness freaks! How was the weekend? Did you party just a tad too hard at a Christmas party like I did? I literally couldn’t function yesterday. At all. I didn’t brush my teeth until 5pm. Why is alcohol just so terrible for you? It makes ya lazy, bloated and eat bad. At least for me. This is why I don’t drink. And that hangover has gotten 10x worse is just the last year. Maybe I won’t drink until the wedding. Because you know bahama mama’s are definitely going down in Jamaica.

But enough about alcohol, let’s get to working out! This week was a little off because we had to make a quick trip to KC to visit family so workouts were put on the back burner. So I tried to push it a little harder and go heavier than I usually would on the other days. If you’re looking for a lung burn, try out Mondays and Saturdays!

What I Ate in a Day:

6:00am – Wake up and made a cup of coffee with heavy cream and stevia.

7:00am – Set up for taking pictures of ham soup (on the blog tomorrow) then got the soup prepared for once the sun came up.

8:00am – Had just a little bit of soup before heading to the gym for 9am workout. I don’t like working out on a full stomach. IMG_1550

10:30am – Brunch for my best friends birthday at Bacon Social House! Had the Costa Rica Benedict which I asked for gluten free so it came with polenta cakes, pork belly, poached eggs, chipotle hollandaise, and pineapple salsa. It came alongside gluten free bacon tots that they make with tapioca flour! Effing awesome. Had my brunch with another cup of coffee.

12-4pm – Shopping for my girlfriends birthday where I found my newest favorite dress of all time at Hailee Grace Boutique, which I wore to our gym Christmas party the next night!

Once I got home, I worked on writing up recipes and ate some plantain chips then had dinner around 6pm and just made a huge bowl of my ham soup and after, I reheated a piece of eggnog glazed gingerbread cake (I froze the cake into individual pieces to just pull out when I have a sweet tooth going on!) and ate that up!

At the end of the night, I headed to Union Station to watch a friend propose to another one of my friends and it was just magical! Huge congrats to them! I seriously cannot wait to go to their wedding!

Whenever special events are going on, there is obviously alcohol around. Alcohol is one of those things that I don’t mind avoiding because I think it tastes terrible. All alcohol. I sometimes just drink it to look like an adult. But then never finish it. And my hangovers continue to get worse as I get closer to 30. My body feels better and I personally think it looks better when I avoid alcohol, so I just asked the server for water and if anyone asked me why I wasn’t drinking, just told them that I was driving home. Which was true. When members at the gym ask me about how to lose weight or improve their performance at the gym, I always bring up alcohol and avoiding it. If you’re looking to lose weight, consuming alcohol is just a no-go. Just keep that in mind, especially during the holidays when eggnog is spiked 24/7 because New Year’s resolutions are just around the corner!

I went out for a bachelorette party on Saturday and Sunday was ROUGH. The hangovers are definitely getting worse. My solution was to just keep eating more Chinese food until I felt better. Obviously it was a really healthy weekend for me…

I recently gave up alcohol for a month and it was incredible to see just how much better your body functions. My skin looked brighter, my stomach flatter and I had so much energy. I wasn’t drinking that much before maybe a few drinks a couple times a week but simply cutting that out changed everything!

We had our CrossFit party on Saturday night and I drank way to much. The second part of it was at a karaoke bar and let’s just say I don’t remember singing, but apparently I did.

Love your ‘What I ate in a day’ posts! Have a question though, I’ve been super anal about getting all my protein in since I feel like that is what I’ve been lacking in my diet to build lean muscle…1 gram p/pound of body weight roughly. But I noticed by kinda adding up what you are eating that you’re coming in pretty low on protein-like 60 grams or so. But it obviously doesn’t seem to affect your performance! And clearly you’re super lean! Not being judgy just super nerdy and curious about this stuff!! Do you ever worry about not hitting protein needs?

you know, i’ve actually tried to do that in the past because I was trying to gain muscle faster but I felt overly full and uncomfortable. i knew that wasn’t how I was suppose to feel, so i just stopped doing that and just ate until i was full, but not overly full. i’ve done different numbers and percentages in my diet and it never seems to work for me, so i just try to listen to what my body is craving and what it needs and wants while not overdoing it! hope that helps!

Hi Juli! I just started following you on your social media platforms a few months ago and I love the transformation from strict to happy you’ve made. I hope to achieve the same balance of nutrition that you have! I just have one question; I noticed you eat a lot of soups, which I’ve always stayed away from due to the high sodium, do you have any advise regarding sodium intake in a day and how to mitigate bloating from soup/sodium? Or perhaps you’ve just mastered low sodium soup making? Thank you in advance for your response :).

    1. juli says:

i would just recommend making your own soups then! if you make your own broth or find broth with no salt added, you can regulate the salt added into the soup and regulate your own sodium intake!
