So lately, I’ve been absolutely hating our gyms workouts. Which blows. So I’ve been adding in more of my own workouts and trying movements I’ve never done before. And it’s been really damn fun! So I’ve been sharing some of those workouts with you guys on instagram and since lots of people responded to them, I’m thinking about putting together a little New Year’s packet of workouts you can do while you’re traveling or just at your own gym and send it out to my email subscribers in 2017! If you aren’t a email subscriber yet and want some free workouts, be sure to sign up on the home page at the top of the screen where it says “subscribe my mail” or at the bottom where it says “hungry for more?” then I can send you all these fun workouts soon! I can’t wait! Let’s get excited about our workouts together in 2017!

Speaking of excited, what I’m NOT excited to do is drive to Omaha for Christmas. Not into it. But my mother-in-law just had knee surgery and can’t bend her knee much yet so we are going to visit her for the holidays instead of her coming here. And there was no way I was leaving Jackson dog with a friend for Christmas. Hells to the nah. So we are packing up the car and heading out. Sadly, my family isn’t into murder podcasts and think I’m a psychopath for being into them, so I think I may have to keep my headphones in the whole time and listen on my own. No family murder listening. Alas, I need to find some new podcasts to listen to! Here’s what I’ve finished so far or have listened to most so far:

  • Up and Vanished
  • My Favorite Murder
  • Sword & Scale
  • Serial
  • In the Dark
  • Undisclosed
  • Accused
  • Girls Gone Wod

What are you listening to and loving right now?! I need stuff to keep me entertained while driving 7-8 hours and music just doesn’t cut it for me. I need stories. And these murder podcasts are beginning to make me trust absolutely no one and look over my shoulder every 14 seconds, so if you have any other positive or fun podcasts (or murder, I’ll always take murder) then send them my way! My friend recently sent me a couple Ted Talks about dealing with some of the negativity I get on my website, so I was thinking about listening to those too! And if you think I should finally man up and download audible to listen to books on tape, well I’ll do that, too! I can’t believe I haven’t yet anyways! Tell me stuff!!

  • Yield: 22 jalapeños halves 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 11 jalapeños, cut in half, seeds removed (leave seeds if you like it spicy)
  • 2 cups rotisserie chicken
  • 1/3 cup mayo
  • 1/3 cup hot sauce (I used Frank’s Red Hot Sauce)
  • pinch of black pepper
  • 1 pound bacon (thin cut), each piece cut in half
  • sliced green onions
  • flake salt, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with foil.
  2. Place rotisserie chicken in a stand mixer with the flat beater attachment and mix until completely shredded. Add mayo, hot sauce and black pepper and mix once more until completely combine.
  3. Scoop mixture into each jalapeño half (about 1-2 tablespoons worth) then wrap with 1/2 piece of bacon, with the ends tucked underneath the jalapeño. Repeat with all jalapeños.
  4. Place in oven to bake for 25-30 minutes, until bacon is completely cooked.
  5. Garnish with flake salt and green onions.

Hi Juli, I’m a podcast junkie as well (Sword and Scale is so creepy but I CAN’T STOP). I also love to learn, so I listen to things that either teach or question. Here are the podcasts on my playlist you didn’t already list:

Surprisingly Awesome (explains why ordinary things are surprisingly awesome)
Science Vs (explains the science behind common things/beliefs)
This American Life (I’m sure you’ve heard of this one)
    Snap Judgment (modern storytelling)
    Criminal
    Invisibilia
    Radiolab
    Stuff you Should Know
    The Stuff of Life
Stuff you Missed in History Class
    Stuff to Blow your Mind

NOT murder BUT have you gone through Anna Faris Unqualified podcast episodes? They. Are. Hysterical. Especially the one with the Parks & Rec cast…

    1. juli says:

some i like and some i find kind of boring. i definitely need to listen to the parks and recs one though!!

  3. Katelyn says:

    Happier with Gretchen Rubin
Guys we F*cked (umm, not family friendly unless y’all are reeeal close)
Tell Me Something I Don’t Know

    1. Shannon says:

      I second Guys We F*cked!!

      1. juli says:

        listening to it now!

  4. Cas says:

These look amazing. Gonna make them for my father-in-law who recently cut out carbs and would probably feature in a murder podcast over some bacon.

My husband and I drive back and forth between DC and Indianapolis and/or Chicago a couple times a year. This year our podcast of choice was My Dad Wrote a Porno. Can’t endorse it enough. It made eleven hours in a car much more pleasant. And very grateful that nobody in our families has, to the best of our knowledge, dabbled in writing erotic literature.

Thanks for all the amazing work you do!

You MUST listen to this 4-part episode of the podcast Reply All! It’s a quirky technology blog that talks about this guy in maximum security prison who is publishing his own blog through his mother. The woman who is gathering information on him get to know him really well and starts investigating his case (his crime is a murder crrime). VERY interesting. If you liked serial, you’ll like this 4-part episode!

  6. Hannah says:

I officially second the 4-part series of Reply All! I just finished it today and it is so bomb. If you liked Serial, you’ll love it.

Another one I found that was interesting was More Perfect, a Radiolab spin-off about the supreme court. If you like the courtroom drama of Law and Order, this is a good listen.

  7. Andrea says:

I know you said you didn’t want to listen to Lime Town in one of your podcasts because its fictional-but honestly if you want a good story and to be totally creeped out, you could give it a listen.
I am a total idiot and had to google if it was real in the first 20 minutes of the first episode lol!

    1. juli says:

i tried listening to it but i just couldn’t get into it!

  8. TIffany says:

The podcast someone knows something. So good.

    1. juli says:

forgot to list that one, loved that one too!

  9. Siobhan says:

I love Girls Gone Wod! You should have them guest star on your podcast… I know you’ve been on theirs! So it is your turn!

    1. juli says:

i’m definitely planning to do that someday!

  10. EmilyS says:

I really like the School of Greatness podcast. Great interviews.
