I want to talk about acne. Mostly because it’s pissing me off and if I complain to my friends, they just get mad. So I write in my diary instead. Aka, my blog.
Acne is stupid. And no, nothing has worked. I thought long and hard about going to a naturopath, but I just can’t afford that. I spent my money on more fun things, like trips to exotic places. Instead, I choose to try to ignore the acne since there seems to be nothing I can do about. The acne is all on my jaw line now, meaning it mostly has to do with my hormones. And since I stopped lifting heavy and CrossFitting multiple times a day, my hormones have started to calm down. I’ve lost weight, my body is remembering it’s feminine, and my cystic acne has calmed A BIT. I emphasize a bit, because it’s not much. I posted this picture below the other day and people thought my face looked great. Little do they know, I have makeup on that smudges off on EVERYTHING. Like, seriously, everything. It’s disgusting. I’m astonished I have a boyfriend that will put up with that. Poor man. But I wanted to show you that I still do have plenty of acne. I’ve obviously just good at makeup, good lighting, and well, contorting my face to look like I have none. Meaning, make myself look like an idiot.
It’s like a fun house up in here.
So in conclusion, my acne is not really getting better. I just wanted this to be clear since I haven’t talked about it as much anymore. I’m trying to put my energy of hatred for my skin into other things. Like, oh I don’t know, just being happy. And loving other people. And supporting my friends.
Speaking of supporting my friends, I need your help in supporting one of my blogging friends. If you haven’t read Nom Nom Paleo, I don’t know what you’ve been doing with your extra time. PS- my boyfriend thought these tortillas tasted like pancakes. Relationships are hard. Sometimes you just must agree to disagree. And that’s that.
Boneless Pork Short Rib Breakfast Tacos
- Yield: 2-4 1x
Ingredients
For the “tortillas”
- 3 eggs, whisked
- ½ cup canned coconut milk
- 2 tablespoonscoconut flour
- pinch of salt
For the shredded pork
- 2 pounds boneless pork short ribs
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- salt, to taste
For the toppings
- 5–6 strips of bacon
- 1 (6-8 ounce) can of green chiles
- 2–3 tablespoons hot sauce (or your choice)
- chopped green onions
Instructions
- First, this recipe will start in the crockpot.
- Add short ribs to the crockpot. Pour maple syrup on top of them, along with garlic powder and salt. (I didn’t put any liquid in the crockpot because the fat will leak out and protect it from burning)
- Cook on low for 8-10 hours.
- When you wake up the next day, remove the pork ribs from the crockpot, shred them and pour some of the excess liquid from the crockpot over the shredded pork for extra flavor.
- Now make the tortillas. In a medium bowl, whisk together the tortilla ingredients until smooth.
- Place a large skilletover medium-high heat, pour ingredients into the pan to create a pancake size tortilla. I would pour on the liquid, pick up the skillet to roll it around and flatten out the tortilla even more. Cook on both sides for just about a minute per side.
- Once all your tortillas are done (this made about 8-10 tortillas for me), place bacon on the skillet or oven to cook on both sides, cool then roughly chop.
- Then mix together the green chiles and hot sauce in a bowl, place in microwave for 1:30-2:00 minutes or until hot. And then chop the green chiles.
- Now load up each tortilla. Shredded pork, green chiles, bacon, then green onions. Then eat it.
- Happy times.

Hi Juli! Fist off LOVE your blog!!! I get most of my recipes from here:) ok about the acne try this it sounds crazy but it’s awesome!!! Oily Skin: 2 or 3 parts castor oil to 1 part olive oil
Normal Skin:1 part castor oil to 1 part olive oil
Dry Skin: 1 part castor oil to 2 or 3 parts olive oil
I use the oily skin combination. I mixed the oils together then just added a couple drops of tea tree oil that helps with acne. The castor oil acts as a make up remover and dirt remover while the olive oil keeps a balanced pH and helps keep the natural oils of the skin.
I was worried about it leaving my skin feeling really oily but it actually feels really healthy and not oily.
To Use:
Rub face wash on face for about one minute.
Take a HOT wash cloth and lay it on your face for about 1 min or until it cools to room temp.
I hope this helps!
Oh then rub off face once cloth cools 😉
One brand of face wash you must try…Cetaphil. It WORKS!! Use the face wash and the moisturizer! Dont scrub, try touching your face as little as possible and pat dry. Use Neutrogena on the spot acne treatment with 2.5% Benzoyle Peroxide anything higher is too harsh on your skin and will make you break out! Trust me I had the same problem same cystic acne and covered it with same horrible makeup for years! Now I am totally clear and hardly ever wear foundation! Meds and doctors dont work, Cetaphil does. Anyway….recipe looks DELICIOUS!!! Off to the kitchen I go!!
Juli! Please put your shoes on. Get in your car. Go to Target/CVS. And purchase a Clarisonic by Olay. It is like an electric toothbrush for your face, it comes with an exfoliant (you can throw it out if you don’t like it) You can use it with regular face soap.
It won’t cure hormones (wah wah wahhhhh) but I have had awful acne for years. From the lovely blend of Sweat and Makeup- and it has been a dream come true. It will shorten the life of the zits you’ve got, and help clear up all the gunk that gets clogged day to day.
Hope it helps! Love your blog!!!
Excuse me Juli, these tacos look bloody amazing! We hate pimples, they can all go away! e & c
Hey girl! I feel your pain with the acne. I’m also dealing with that and nothing’s helped me either so far.
I’m sure you are already getting a crapload of advice you didn’t ask for but I’m also an esthetician and I think you mentioned in one of your other posts that you moisturize with coconut oil. Coconut oil is EXTREMELY comedogenic! So if you’re still doing that I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the cause of your acne.
Anyways, if you wanna go the natural route with your moisturizing, try switching to jojoba oil. It has a similar structure to the natural moisture we produce and is much less likely to cause acne.
Hang in there acne sucks!!! Esp adult acne. =/
PS your recipes are amazing.
have you tried the oil cleansing method? I have had ahhhhmaazing results with it. I use baking soda as a facial scrub. Between these two methods… I’ve tossed out all the “other” products. I’ve been to dermatologist and esthetician and somthing so basic did the trick! Check it out when you get the time
Loved this! We used the tacos with some shredded chicken, avocado and spinach. So good! and the tacos hold together very well! Will definitely be a staple!
http://WWW.rosaura.nerium.com works wonders on acne!
Hi Juli – thanks for being so funny and open and good at recipe making! I also have acne on my chin and jaw line, definitely hormonal so it cannot really be treated topically. There is something called Natures Cure, sold on amazon, a little pill, all natural, you chew it twice a day, after about a month, skin improves. It actually helped me in other ways too, digestion, stuff like that, felt all around more balanced. I stopped remembering to take it, acne came back, went back on it (sits next to my toothbrush now because people would be opposed if i stopped remembering to do THAT) and viola, got better again. Not sure you’ll ever make it through all these suggestions but you share with us, so we all want to share with you! Love and luck!
