That’s my excited face.
Oh sh*t. I can’t even hold it in. Word vomit is about to happen. I’M WRITING MY FIRST COOKBOOK!!
I’m literally tearing up just thinking about this. I’ve wanted this for so long and have gone back and forth about how I would accomplish this goal. But once I was approached by Scribe Publishing, I knew it was the right fit. Not only is the Publisher a CrossFitter as well, but she’s a paleo-er who gets my sense of humor and isn’t afraid of what I have to say. She’s so awesome.
I hadn’t thought about a writing a cookbook since my recipes are free over the internet, until readers began to ask for one. Which was very cool. It’s amazing people would actually want to purchase something when they can get it all free online. So really, I’m writing this cookbook for all of you who have supported me and wanted to show that support by purchasing a cookbook. So this cookbook will feature my favorite PaleOMG recipes along with many new recipes you won’t be able to find on the blog. Already have some good stuff for you!!
So what I want to know is, what are YOU looking for in a paleo cookbook? What is helpful to you and what would make your life easier in a paleo cookbook? Please leave your comments below and give your ideas because I’m making this cookbook for YOU all!
ANNNNNNND, omg, yes there is more. I’m now in the first steps of creating a PaleOMG app. Let’s be real here, obviously I am not the person doing it, I know nothing about anything…except sweets, but my good friend Peter who also put my website together for me, is doing the job. He’s amazing and spectacular so I’m trusting him to create something wonderful. BUT I want and need to know what you are looking for in a paleo app. I don’t do apps, I don’t really get them. I downloaded a food porn app once, but I’ve only looked at it once when I was too hungover to get out of bed. True story. So I need to know what people who actually use apps would like to see in a PaleOMG app?
Are you mad because there isn’t a recipe? Don’t you worry, there will be plenty all week!

I think it would be awesome if there were serving size ideas, leftover ideas, or ways to make your paleo recipes into next day food ideas.. I’m a single lady cooking for one, and I always have leftovers and either eat far too much, or waste lots of yummy food.
Holy balls!! This is uber exciting news!! I am so excited and happy for you, like…dance like a fool in public when-i-should-really-be-alone-in-my-kitchen-dancing! haha…You go girl!
Congratulations! Can’t wait for the cookbook! Agree with those that have said to let your personality shine- you are very amusing 🙂 My suggestions are to keep it simple, which is one of my favorite things from your site- the recipes are doable and fast and don’t seem overwhelming. Also agree with slow cooker recipes. Any prep or organization tips are always good. Someone mentioned spiral bound so it stays open and I like that idea. Can’t wait to buy it!
Whoa! Congratulations! I’ve only just started following your blog, and you have already ushered me into the world of slow cookers, and obsessive food blog fan party like no other! I love you. Your cookbook will be totally incredible, and to come up with some of those recipes is no small feat!
Needless to say, I’ll be buying that sh*t as soon as I can, and you can have all my money (this is from a woman who owns about 4, 2 of which were gifts, and one that was my mum’s from the 1950s, the classic NZ cookbook, Edmonds).
Anyway, to be honest, obviously the best thing about a cookbook is the recipes, and as that’s all taken care of, the only other suggestions I could add are: Maybe a paleo-specific glossary (although I know not everyone wants/loves the scientific low-down, but I sometimes like to feel virtuous when I cook. Only sometimes though).
And also, one thing from my other favourite cook book is each ingredient has it’s own chapter, and she (Stefanie Alexander) goes through a bit of food provenance, preparation basics, food/herb matches, and then the recipes. The best part is she also puts little recipes down the side of the page, and they are very simple recipes, like how to make basic salads or sauces or fruit crumbles etc. I’m not sure if that’s your style, but if you have a tonne of other stuff that you can also whip up but don’t necessarily post about, that might be a nice way to share the amazingness further.
I am sadly way too scared of apps/Amish to even entertain making any suggestions.
Congratulations again!
I seriously don’t care what you put in that cookbook – but I will buy it! I do need some of each meal (including dessert, obviously). If you could also include recipes with a varying number of ingredients. Some days I just need to throw something together, but other times I am down for some paleogourmet.
SO EXCITED!
I think you make some of the most creative and scrumptious paleo provisions out there. Cant wait for the book and the compulsive eating that will surely come with it!! Great job and good luck!
Congratulations, Julie!!! Very well deserved. Let us know when I can pre-order your cookbook, because II love your food and WILL buy it 🙂
As far as cookbook features…we love your voice, your musings, your exuberant potty mouth..all of it! And I’m not alone, so please keep writing & sharing the way you do on your blog.
I love cookbooks that share stories and thoughts about each recipe. Also love it when they let you know if/how it can be made ahead, stored, and frozen.
I currently have a dumb phone, so I am a no help on the app front. However I if get a smart phone someday soon, I like the ideas that others have shared about to be able to input the main ingredients I have on hand and find recipes based on what I have on hand… It would also be cool to have maybe a weekly meal plan.. maybe a button that allows us to “add to week’s meal plan” … Then from there maybe a button that would allow you to email the meal plan in a grocery list format.
Congratulations! Wishing you much success in these ventures!
You have been a great inspiration to me and my sister as we recently turned to the Paleo lifestyle to improve our health. (So much so, that we launched our own blog today!) And I must tell you that as I mourned the loss of International Delight creamer, I completely empathized with your sentiments towards the release of the Cold Stone Creamery Flavor!
I think that your humor is essential for the cookbook. Cooking is fun! And, I’m sure your readers will be looking for more than just ingredients and preparation instructions.
Looking forward to adding your title to a shelf in my kitchen!
Congrats! I am new to Paleo and stumbled onto your site and have been busy printing recipes off at work (shh!) so a book would be great! Like I said, I’m new to it and had nearly a panic attack when I realized holiday meals can’t be what they were. Maybe throw in a section on holiday feasting to guide people like me?
Congrats!!!
I would love to see some sort of Paleo lasagna. Either like a chicken spinach or a twist on original.
