Are you ever pissed you aren’t Beyonce? I am. She just slays it. All day errrrrrday. Watching her on tour right now makes me want to join a hip hop class and start dancing for another exercise routine. I don’t know where the hell I would go for adult hip hop class and I know I would be humiliated trying it, but I still want to do it. Back in my clubbin’ days, I would dance so hard that I would leave daclub with my hair completely soaked in sweat and jeans 5 sizes too big from all the butt and crotch sweat going on. Sweet image, eh? Those days were seriously so bomb.

Guess what? I have 2 consultations this week for Invisalign. One of my best friends sent me a link to a faster route: clear braces. I swiftly gave her a “hell no” and went straight back to searching for affordable orthodontist. Even though that doesn’t exist. So I’m going to talk to 2 different places and get a couple quotes and hopefully start the long road to straighter teeth by next week! Thanks for all your suggestions and mentioning price a couple times, it’s been super helpful with figuring out what I should be paying. Especially since I don’t have dental insurance. Sad face emoji.

Who is pumped about Cinco de Mayo this week?! I’m really excited about any holiday that has to do with food. Because then my job is more fun. This recipe was more so inspired by my recent trip to Jamaica. We had piña coladas on a regular basis there so I thought bringing it back in the form of a healthy post workout treat sounded like a wonderful idea. But if you don’t want this to be as healthy, you can totally add some rum to the mix to make it a real deal piña colada. The choice is yours, you smart adult, you.

Be sure to check the blog tomorrow and Thursday for two more Cinco de Mayo inspired recipes AND a round up of even more recipes that you just MUST try. Okokokokokokok. Ok.

This sounds fantastic, just in time for the warmer weather in MN! FINALLY!!! Question for you, what are the benefits of collagen vs typical isolated protein? I get so confused when people start talking about collagen, BCAA’s, etc. Do you have a POV from your experience? I have been crossfitting for just over a year now and muscle is slow to build…still working on that first pull up:)

    1. juli says:

honestly, i have no clue. i’ve never looked into that! i just like the collagen since it’s unsweetened and you can mix it into anything!

I’m so lucky–I have a Cinco De Mayo birthday! It sucked in college because it was always during finals, but now that I’m adulting everyone wants to go out for margaritas! 🙂

I’ve been wanting to mention this for a while now–I remember “leftovers” from a few years ago when you would dig up old recipes and remake them and take better photos of them and stuff. I would totally get on board with more of those–but only because there are some super kick ass forgotten recipes from the past. So if you wanna bring those back I am TOTALLY game. Just sayin’.

i definitely need to do another round up post of my favorite recipes from the past to remind people of those, even if they have terrible photos haha!

I have your Mexican Meatloaf from your cookbook already prepped and ready to go for Cinco de Mayo! Can’t wait! We had the Truffle burgers last night and O.M.G. I didn’t have truffle oil, so I made up my aioli using plain yogurt (we eat homemade yogurt for gut health reasons), stone ground mustard, and minced garlic. It was off the chain with the burgers, mushroom, and fried egg! I loved your new cookbook so much that I ordered your 2nd one and it comes today! You’ve made cooking so much for me!

    1. Jaime Hardwick says:

I just made this shake by the way with a few modifications – only used one Tablespoon of the coconut cream. Used 3/4 cup almond milk and 3/4 cup water. Used Vanilla Shakeology (which is usually YUCK to me). Didn’t have coconut extract so I threw in some organic unsweetened coconut flakes. Left out the chia seed because i’m out of it. It was awesome. I have never put coconut cream in a shake, but it sure did make that nasty Vanilla Shakeo taste better!! Thanks for another great recipe.

    2. juli says:

awesome!! so glad to hear it, Jaime! your aioli sounds delicious! hope you love the other book too!

    Hey Juli,

Love your site and recipes, your sense of humor is right up my alley! As an HR Manager, I just wanted to mention that you could get onto your new husbands dental insurance (if he has it himself through an employer) within 30 days of getting married. It *might* save you money. Typically dental insurance has an orthodontics cap and if paying cash they may give you a big enough discount to incentivize you not to use insurance, but for general purpose stuff, it might be worth it to get added on. Dental insurance through employers is usually pretty inexpensive and depending on the coverage, can save you a TON of money! Good luck with the invisaline!

    1. juli says:

sadly, he doesn’t have dental either! we both have good history when it comes to our teeth so we just pay out of pocket when it comes to going a couple times per year for cleaning.

  7. Danielle says:

Amazing! How have I not seen/known that coconut extract was a thing?!

  8. Janeen says:

I’d rather be you than Beyoncé…. You are a Crossfit bad#ss, and you cook too!

    1. juli says:

ha!! but beyonce can dance, has a better butt AND a person who cooks for her!

  9. Luis Garzon says:

If you happen to come to Puerto Rico you must come where the Pina Colada was invented in 1963, Barrachina Restaurant Old San Juan. . http://www.barrachina.com.
Their formula is the most garded secret since its invention and they use at he best puertorrican premium rum to mix it.. Also they have a fantastic Flamenco Show starting at 8pm on Friday and Saturday every week..

This smoothie looks so wonderful…I’m totally a pineapple fan! Also, my husband is in school to be an orthodontist right now! You are right in saying that there really isn’t a “cheaper” or more “affordable” option, but there are different payment plans. I also think it’s super smart to get 2 consults because just like with any treatment/medical consultations/etc there can be a couple of different approaches!! So exciting! When my husband starts working, I’m hopping on the invisalign train too 🙂
