It’s Halloweeeeeeen this week. And even though that means nothing to me since I have no children and I’m definitely not feeling comfortable handing out candy this year, I do like the idea of having adorable treats around that impress my family of 1. Ok, 2 if you count Jackson, but he can’t exactly consume chocolate brownies. I’ve heard from a very small part of the population and it sounds like some people are still trick-o-treating and 1/2 are staying in. What’s the right thing to do? To me, it’s stay home and get creative with your kids, but who am I to say? I know nothing about anything, especially children. But I do believe that they’ll love these brownies and think they are supes cute, especially if you have some creepy spiders crawling on top.
Speaking of creepy, wanna hear something kind of gross? And a total bummer? I feel like a terrible dog parent right now because I noticed Jackson was licking his back paw and I looked to find one of Jackson’s toenails (which must never hit the ground) that has grown long enough and curled into his pad. And it looks infected! I feel terrible that I didn’t notice it before. So we are heading in to the vet today to get that all fixed up and hopefully it hasn’t caused a worse infection. Lord knows Jackson doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to going to the vet, but he also has 9 lives like a cat, so I think he will be good to go. So sad, though! My poor little pandy!
But let’s talk about something less disgusting. Like the fact that we’ve already hit winter here in Colorado. I would normally say that was disgusting because winter is the worst, but we need the moisture so bad for the fires we have in Colorado this year. How insane has this fire season been? I know the fires are still awful in California, too. It’s such a bummer. Sorry, I wasn’t trying to drag you down with my toenail and fire talk. Let me try to bring things back up and back around to my barren lifestyle. Last night I had a dream that I was pregnant then had a c-section and it was painful at all. Then I kept forgetting diapers, since I’ve never had to purchase them, so I just kept having to wrap my baby in t-shirts. No, I’m not pregnant. But yes, I’ll obviously be a phenomenal mother who keep their children wrapped in t-shirts. It’s better than dirty diapers, right?
What happened to this blog post? What a mess.
Spiderweb Brownies
- Prep Time: 25 minutes
- Cook Time: 25 minutes
- Total Time: 50 minutes
- Yield: 16 brownies 1x
Ingredients
- 1 package Simple Mills Brownies (this mix needs you to add 1/2 cup oil, 3 tbsp water, & 2 eggs)
- 1/4 cup organic powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon heavy cream or canned coconut milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Bake brownies according to directions to the box of brownies. Let cool completely.
- Once cool, add powdered sugar to a small bowl and add the cream and vanilla extract. Whisk to mix until the frosting is smooth.
- Cut brownies into 16 brownies. Add frosting to a small ziploc bag, putting the frosting into the corner of the bag. Cut the edge of the bag off, making a very small hole. To make the spiderweb, start a spiral design from the middle of the brownie, moving outwards as you go. Then use a toothpick to drag from the center of the spiral, repeating multiple times to create the spiderweb! Place on a spooky platter and top with fake spiders!

The moms I’ve talked to are all doing trick or treating here in Wisconsin. I’m not going to be opening the door for any snot nosed brats though this year though! My husband and I are going to buy a bag of candy and just eat it ourselves 😂
my sister and I were just talking about what to do with our nephews this Saturday, so I think these brownies will be on our list. plus they look easy, which is really important when you’re trying to entertain a 3 and a 6 year old
I was thinking that for people who don’t want to go out trick or treating maybe set up a Halloween Easter egg hunt type thing around the house, so they get candy and have something to do! Or make a treasure map to find the candy with a schematic of the house.
Or a scavenger hunt!
love that idea!
Don’t feel bad. I did the same thing. It’s his do-claw and curls fast! I cut my pups out myself and luckily wasn’t infected but I cried I felt so bad.
ugh i feel so bad, too!! it’s hard to remember to keep an eye on that!
Have you ever used egg replacer with Simple Mills brownies and if so did they turn out?
yes! i actually did for these brownies because i was out of eggs! worked perfectly!
I attempted these…did NOT look like yours.😆😆 cute idea though!
oh no! what happened?!
My icing work wasn’t up to par. When I attempted to drag the toothpick through to create the “web,” it didn’t pull-though. Just looked like little squiggles. Probably just takes some practice on my end. others probably didn’t have the issues. 🙂
