Well gooooooood morning!! I’m feeling a little brain dead today. Not totally sure why, but it could have to do with having the laziest Sunday ever yesterday. Well, I did cook two separate meals, one of those meals being for 4 people. So that’s not totally lazy, right?! Right. The rest of the Sunday was spent on the couch with some sort of ball sport on or watching Dave Chappelle in his new Netflix standup series. So today I’m ready to get outside and get after it! Time to run, jump and feel back to myself again! It’s crazy how the weekend can throw you off your roll!

I had a tough couple of days last week after an obviously very angry person let out there anger on me and told me in a blog post that, “wow your legs are so gross.” Here’s the thing – I hear this kind of stuff all.the.time. I sometimes erase, I sometimes leave it, I sometimes respond, I sometimes don’t. But no matter what, it always eats me up a little bit inside. Because you know what? I’m striving to be my best self every day and to be a more confident person, but hearing something like that really hurts. It stings. And for a little bit, it opens the door to self doubt and self destruction.

This past week, that comment did exactly that. It made me question myself and the anger built up for days. And I know those feelings are pointless and mean nothing, but I’m human and as humans, we never like being put down for who we are, especially when it comes to something we work hard at.

The point of all of this is – someone will always want to put you down or hold you back or tell you your progress isn’t good enough. But it means nothing unless you believe it. You can let negativity take over and eat you alive, or you can create your own destiny, filled with endless opportunities. The world is filled with negativity and hateful words, but their negativity changes nothing. Those people aren’t motivating or lifting others up or making a difference. But you can! You can make a difference, even if it starts simply by believing in yourself. Never let someone steer you off your course or slow your excitement for life. Stay positive, stay motivated, and stay on course for an amazing life that YOU have built.

That person makes me angry for you! You are awesome and I think you look amazing. I’d kill to have your legs but I never will because Im 4’11”. One thing I’m working much harder at is not comparing myself to others because as you have said numerous times we all have different lifestyles, backgrounds, genetics, etc. I love your positivity and honesty. Don’t let some mean person bring you down just because they are trying to feel better about themselves.

      thanks for the love, tara!

Just bought your latest cookbook and absolutely love it!!

I am heading on vacay soon and would love to know your favorite beach WODS. When I’m in a tropical place, I much prefer working out on the sand. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

I’ve done lots of workouts on sand! running, burpees, squats, lunges, push ups, sit ups! all body movements are fun to try!

you’re seriously the best; so inspiring and so much fun. I want to be you when I grow up lol! if you’re ever in the san diego area and are near marine corps base camp Pendleton, I would LOVE to meet you!!!

Sorry but no clue what the troll was talking about … and I know you’re going to hate me saying this (because I do listen obsessively to your podcasts!) … but I totally have body envy of you! I work out a lot but can’t seem to get lean … instead I just get “swollen” or big if that makes sense. I suspect this means I should put down the Girl Scout Cookies and clean the fk out of my eating?

Do you find a clean diet to be more effective at helping look like you work out? Why did I ask that … I know the answer already 🙂

    Much love!!

In the least creepy way ever – I show my husband like once a week your pictures and how I wish I had your legs!! I always love looking back at your “bodies are weird” photos throughout the years blog post because it is so inspiring and shows how simple changes in your workout/diet make such a big impact! Still haven’t found my perfect solution yet but you give me hope! Love your stuff 🙂

Juli!! Omg I’ve followed you for at least 4 years, I don’t know, but I remember reading about you and your then roommate Laura and how much fun you had together! Anyway, I just love your freaking face and your humor and your dog and even your yawns. You tell it like it is and are unapologetically you and that is awesome. To me you are a role model for living an authentic life so thank you for that. And of course with that confidence to live authentically comes assholes who try to steal your power. I know you won’t let them!

Also – I have a podcast suggestion: sleep! I would love to know anything you’ve tried to help you fall asleep. I’m a yoga teacher and I have a wonky schedule sometimes. And it’s hard for me to come home and go right to sleep when I know I should because I have to be up at 6 am to teach a class. Any advice? Maybe other people have sleep questions?

I have never left a comment before but your post inspired me to share my gratitude and admiration. You are a trail blazer and have changed my life for the better. Thank you for being honest and a source of inspiration. Thank you for sharing what we all feel; crazy love of our dogs, happiness from good food, insecurities and joy from being healthy. You are awesome!

YOUR LEGS ARE MY EFFING #LEGGOALS! ARE THEY NUTS? But of course this isn’t the point. The point is, no matter who says kind words, or words unkind, we somehow need to learn how to muddle through and learn to be kind to ourselves and not let any comments rent space in our mind, bodies and or souls. I will let you know if I ever get there.
    Much loves to you Jules.

    Hi Juli,
I’ve been following you for a while now and just read the comment about negative postings online.
There’s always a hater out there just picking on people because they feel insecure. Don’t let that get to you.
Some people need to grow up and look at themselves first. All the information you post is great and if someone doesn’t like it, they can just go to another page and be done with it. I just don’t get those people that just like to be bullies.

I work at a place where negativity is what most people thrive on. I get all sorts of mean comments said right to my face, and all I do is just answer back a huge smile. This is the answer they least expect. I don’t dwell on it and don’t allow them to get me down.

We are enough no matter what other people say. Period!
You are awesome Juli, and thank you for sharing all this information on your website. I love your recipes 🙂

Hi Juli! I’ve been following your blog since 2012. I remember making your sweet potato brownie recipe and bringing it to my CF gym and everyone loved it. I’ve made many of you other recipes since then. I appreciate all that you have shared with us over the years. Because of you, I’ve recently had my eyebrows microbladed, signed up for the Aaptiv app, listed to all of My Dad Wrote a Porno, and starting watching Wentworth. All of those things are flipping awesome and so are you! I think you are fabulous and I love your site and your awesome explicit podcast!

I’m sorry people are so hateful and their lives suck so bad that they try to bring other people down. Just know that you are awesome!

    1. juli says:

yayyyyyy! that’s amazing because MDWAP and wentworth are truly the best!! and thanks for the love!!
